About
Ms Vy's flagship restaurant in Hoi An, Morning Glory Original is her Street Food and Home Food Experience Opened in 2006, her initial concept with the restaurant was to focus on Vietnam’s amazing street food, but to present it to guests in a comfortable restaurant atmosphere. Many of the dishes on the menu were considered lost during the years of hardship—years of food shortages and rationing. Ms Vy made it a personal goal to rediscover these ‘lost’ recipes and reintroduce many of the dishes—dishes which have subsequently become considered Hoi An specialities and which now appear on almost every restaurant menu across the town. Since opening, the menu at Morning Glory Original has continued to evolve until the present day. Amongst her Morning Glory family of restaurants, Ms Vy consider Morning Glory Original to be the perfect introduction to Vietnamese food with a menu which spans every food category from street food, celebratory food and iconic Hoi An dishes to family-style daily

Very popular restaurant in the touristy old town of Hoi A featuring traditional Vietnamese cuisine in the ambiance of a wooden traditional house. Extensive menu. Recommend the fried whole red snapper with coriander mango salad (205,000 VND) which was crunchy tangy and fresh. Most ordered are the local specialty of white rose dumplings (95,000 VND) which melt in your mouth. White rose dumplings (named for their shape) are translucent rice dough dumplings stuffed with ground pork, shrimp, and vegetables. Also enjoyed the local cuisine Cao Lao (95,000 VND) which is a thick rice noodle with bbq pork, bean sprouts, and lettuce. This expansive 2 story restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating accepts credit cards and takes reservations (via email). Highly recommended.

I looked across many recommendations regarding where to eat in Hoi An. And while many names differed across articles, one name was there across all recommendations, for a good reason - Morning Glory
I believe the essence of experiencing a new country and culture is through it's food and while it might not always be what you like, it's worth exploring.
And Morning Glory showcases Vietnamese food splendidly!
This is a chain of restaurants run by a rather famous chef in Vietnam, each with it's own theme and speciality.
I was in Hoi An for 5 days and during that time, I had 3 meals at Morning Glory Signature, 2 meals at Cargo club (owned by the same group) and one meal at Morning Glory Original. And it was like attending a concert where the artist belts out hit after hit.
Let me break it down further:
Morning Glory Signature - this is just across the river, near a rather busy intersection of the night market. It does the Vietnamese classics along with a whole host of international food. Each floor apparently has a different menu according to theme. I was on the ground floor all three times and had stuff like Banh Xeo, Cau Lau, white rose dumplings summer rolls, barbecue pork stuffed with herbs.
Cargo Club - this is right on the river side with upstairs seating overlooking the river. The food here is a bit more international and hence limited local options. I had the crab wonton, roast pork salad, pork and shrimp with pepper cooked in a claypot, and some spring rolls. The ambience here, particularly in the evening is lovely as it overlooks the river with the lantern boats going by.
Morning Glory Original - this was possibly the best meal of my stay in Hoi An. I came in for lunch after being out at My Son sanctuary on a rather hot morning. A few beers to cool down followed by a pork and mango salad with noodles and yellow sauce. And given the wide array of other Vietnamese options on the menu, the waiter helpfully suggested the Bun Ca, which apparently is a dosh from Hanoi. Barbecued pork and pork meatballs with cold noodles and a mild sauce with salad.
Admittedly, these restaurants cater primarily to tourists and are in the most touristy part of town, and the prices reflect that. Though they are still very fairly priced given the quality and quantity. Pricing is all relative and it might look expensive compared to the more authentic eating experience in Vietnam, sitting on roadside stalls, on short plastic stools etc. I was given a couple of local recommendations as well but the food and experience here was so good that I couldn't risk going elsewhere and possibly having a less than great meal. This chain also gives you a discount if you go there again, make sure you ask for it or save the bill from your previous meal.
This was my first trip to Vietnam (first amongst many hopefully) and it's been a great one, made better by some memorable food.
Do yourself a favour and eat at of these restaurants.

My wife and I were recommended this restaurant by the hotel we stayed at while in Hoi An and we were not disappointed. Our waitress helped us choose our dishes and even told us not to order the last one as it was too much food. Each dish was flavourful and cooked to perfection. If we had stayed in Hoi A longer we would have gone back there again!

It was very delicious and I was very satisfied! I was able to enjoy all the Hoi An specialties at once, and it was very clean. The staff were also very friendly. Maybe because it was night, there was a guitar and singing, and the atmosphere was good.
I think that indoors is more recommended for Japanese travelers. It's quite hot...
I went to the signature store, and although I used the map in the "Earth Walking Guide" guide, it was written incorrectly and I got a little lost, so I asked someone. As a result, it was right in front of the river, right after crossing the bridge! The restaurant is on the second floor, so you can call out to the staff outside on the first floor and they will guide you. The menu is easy to understand because you can order from a tablet, and I think it's good value for money. I was with my child, but the restrooms were clean and I recommend this restaurant overall.

We ate here based on recommendation from our hotel and previous reviews. The food was very good and portions are generous. The tables and seats are too close so that, when busy, it feels very cramped. Also, although there are plenty of fans and air-con, we found it very hot inside. Would also suggest ordering one course at a time as the food comes out very quickly and the meal can feel quite rushed.

Recommended by our guide and it was undoubtedly a fantastic experience in all aspects.
Spacious/airy restaurant that makes it very pleasant with typical decor. Located next to the river, in a lively area with many shops.
The food is wonderful. It's the perfect place to discover Hoi An's cuisine.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
We ate very well for €10 per person (with shared desserts).
I recommend!

Having visited Hot An previously we were extremely pleased to see that this restaurant has survived Covid and is still producing excellent Vietnamese food at reasonable prices.
We ate a number ofttimes at the original restaurant and really enjoyed the food which was nicely presented and very tasty. It was also nice that when trying something new the waiter would advise on how to prepare the food for eating, especially good when eating the rice paper rolls etc.

This is one of the busiest places for tourists in Hoi An and therefore it is always better to book. Despite the high number of tables the service was fast, the dishes we took we liked and the price was correct. Recommended.

After trying to secure a table with the cold and unfriendly doorman, he showed us inside to the last table available which wasn’t made up. We were given menus and then sat there for 10 minutes without anyone coming to make the table up or take a drinks order, so we got up and left. Clearly very popular from their reputation, many other restaurants in the area that genuinely appreciate the business and treat you so. Also no ambience or atmosphere, no music playing and tables very close together so have to listen to other people’s conversations.

Meal was great but when paying the bill the staff maths is bad . We had to ask for our change meal total 1,685,000 vnd , they were given 1,800,000 .
We waited for the change to come back and ended up asking for it and given 15,000 NOT 115,000 clearly the staff need to use a calculator to give the correct change and not assume that they may be receiving a tip , wont be going back there again

Food was delicious, staff were very friendly though a little quick to bring mains whilst we were still finishing entrees; not to worry, the food was so good it was quickly devoured. The view from the balcony is pretty, you can watch the hustle and bustle of the Old Town over a decently priced meal. Clean, well kept restaurant. Four of us had three entrees, four mains and a couple of drinks each at approx 4mil Dong or around $130ish Aus.

Do not be put off by any queues! Make a reservation and head off for a drink next to the river as you watch the lively scene around you of lanterns on small boats drift past whilst listening to the sounds of nearby music. Once back at the restaurant, you will not be disappointed by the awesome food. We started with spring rolls which were the best we had eaten in a long while. This was followed by aubergine and toasted garlic, chilli and soy sauce simply divine! For mains we had baby calamari and black squid ink rice, prawns and pork and stuffed squid with minced pork lemon grass and ginger. Sensational. Finally we ended our meal with a refreshing fresh fruit salad with condensed milk yoghurt ice-cream. Light and not too sweet. Our servers Hien and Vi were so helpful, explaining our dishes and always available for any further requests. We would highly recommend this restuarant which is obviously very popular with locals and tourists alike and excellent value for money!

This restaurant knows how to pay attention to detail and service. We were seated right away upstairs. There’s some air conditioning and fans on the second level which helps when it’s hot out. We had the stuffed calamari with carmelized onion and the prawn and soft shell crab my quang cao. This is definitely one of the better meals we’ve had in Vietnam. It’s upscale so you’re paying for more relative to the local restaurants but I feel it’s worth it.

Located in the heart of Hoi An old town is the highly recommended by our tour guide Morning Glory Original Restaurant. We arrived mid day and were seated downstairs in Room 1. There is also seating upstairs but it lacks the ambiance and view of the cooking center. The selections are cooked in an oval ‘kitchen’ at entrance area so yous can view the hustle and bustle of an very busy kitchen along with all the sounds and aromas that are evident. The setting is very French colonial with dark woods and accented with Vietnamese decor.
My wife and I ordered crispy pork and shrimp, fried rice with egg and fried wantons with crab meat all accompanied by a Larue beer. All selections were delicious and service was very good. Our meal was very inexpensive at about $8 (US). There are many choices to choose from in the old town but this choice was superior.

Such a relief to find somewhere pretty good to eat which, much to our surprise has been challenging in Vietnam generally.
Dishes tried were: sautéed seafood, prawn dumplings, seafood with stir-fried glass noodles, salt & pepper squid and stir-fried vegetables. This, with a bottle of water came to VND 1780 - about £56.00 which we were very happy despite others feeling it is expensive for the quality and some level of spice, seasoning, etc. which is difficult here.
Ambience good as was the service.
