This was another recommendation, and once again, we took our chances and arrived without a booking, but was welcomed by the staff downstairs and encouraged to visit the establishment....
The initial greeting was a little muted and almost an imposition expecting a free table, but...when one smiles and is pleasant it is surprising what can be achieved!
We were shown to a table for 4, there was only 2 of us but we chose to sit side by side and then we realised that the live duo were behind us ( they came on later, a saxophonist and guitarist - excellent too).
This is a popular place and they turned the tables during the evening. It was good to see that one of the owners son’s was on shift, even if he was dressed in shorts, trainers and tee shirt...
The staff had an issue with one couple who refused to be pleased with any table unless it was at the edge and made a huge fuss, but to the managers credit, he took it in his stride and then came to us to apologise and ask if thought one of his waiters was unhelpful, which caused great hilarity!
The food was delicious, the wine, good and the ambience, especially with the music, terrific!More
We called to book and the staff were very accommodating as we had to move a few times, which was very much appreciated, especially realizing how busy this place is. The staff were also really helpful throughout, even when we politely asked them to turn...the music down a but as we were sitting below the speaker!
We all had fish starters (octopus and sardines) and fish for main (sea boss, rock bass, umberjack) and all were very good. The two people who had the sardines said they were probably the best that they had ever had.
The only food that we had which was slightly not amazing was the baklava icecream - slightly odd as felt like icecream with pastry rolled in it! The actual baklava was amazing though and came with icecream so would recommend just sticking with that.
They also sell Kayra rose wine - most people would always go for Lal Rose, but this is far superior and only a couple of £ more per bottle.
Best post dinner espresso we had while in Kakan as well.More
Upon arrival we were seated upstairs on the terrace. When our orders were being taken the waiter didn't even so much as look at us. In fact as my wife was ordering I was looking at him, he was looking around the terrace at everything...except her. This continued as I ordered and I started to wonder if there was something wrong because he seemed so concerned with his surroundings that even I started looking around to try figure what was distracting him. Nothing! He was just very bad at his job!
I thought perhaps it's just me so asked wifey " have you been made to feel welome?" No, not at all came the answer.
The food was good, no doubt, it was cooked and prepared well. The wine was expensive in fairness and we left over half a bottle because I wanted to get out of there and to a place that actually wanted us in there. I suppose we were in the restaurant less than 45 minutes.
Point to note. Look carefully at your bill. They tried to charge us a service charge which when I questioned them was told it was "optional".
As we didn't get any service at all, optional or otherwise I declined to pay it and left.
Won't be back but hey, they won't notice anyway..More
Having dined at The Fish Terrace many times over the years, we have always found the service and food very good. However, our last visit, was not a great experience. We were seated quickly and menus handed to us. Whilst browsing the menus, we noticed...that the staff were huddled at the back by the kitchen serving area in full view of customer’s, chatting, smoking and drinking between themselves. After 15 minutes or so passing, we called out to attract a waiters attention so as to have our order taken!. Admittedly we were there early at 7pm, however this should not have affected their service level & hygiene standards. Regrettably, this experience will not see us returning next year.More
Dined here twice. Both times exceptional. You really have to book or you can be waiting for quite some time if you dont. We were lucky both times to be seated next to the balcony. There are a few stairs to the rooftop but its...worth it. Obviously we all had fish on both occasions we attended. Both starter and mains were superb. from what i can remember i had the grilled squid and sea bass. In all honesty i like a sweet but the portions from the starters and mains were very substantional so i had to pass. But a flaming sambuka did the trick for me. There are plenty of very good restaurants in Kalkan but this is quite exceptional, just a shame i was only on holiday for the week. Also worth mentioning right across the road is their breakfast and meze restaurant. I had breakfast there on my own one day and for 50 turkish lira it was incredible. All 5 of us had lunch also there which was basically a meze, again truly wonderful and not expensive. Superb location with friendly staff and not to intrusive. I probably will visit Kalkan again, purely for the fantastic restaurants and chilled out barsMore
Thank you for the lovely meal and exquisite service. Food was excellent, the staff friendly and attentive, setting - outstanding!
I urge all who visit Kalkan to book a table and enjoy this wonderful restaurant
We were lucky enough to get a table for 12 on the terrace on the last day of our holiday, safe to say none of us had a bad meal we were all raving about the food, the surf and turf is like no other...i have ever had before and would go back to Kalkan just to order this again.More
