a must-see restaurant in Negombo

I went in Negombo for the first time during one week. In this place, we can see a lot of restaurants near to the see. After trying some of them, i asked for the person in charge of the guest house where i stayed one good restaurant and he told me about the Sea Joy. I just regret one thing, it is not to have asked him earlier. The Sea Joy was not only a good surprise for me, I was totally won over by the food, the people, the place. You can eat there differents dishes and all are very tasty. The food is great with subtle flavors and also healthy! In addition, compared to other restaurants, the price is not expensive. The staff are also welcoming and very kind! The manager makes you feel like at home, she has extensive catering experience and i really appreciated and enjoyed. A restaurant not to be missed in Negombo !

The atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing. Our water was so friendly and happy! My mom ordered the curry and a bit after we started eating, he brought a sea food curry for her to try (TASTY!). My fried noodles were also very delicious.

Great food and excellent service

This place was a great find - it's been there for some years, but it's just been done up, and hasn't changed hands. It has a varied menu, which isn't Always easy to find in Sri Lanka - we went back three evenings in a row, had something different each time, and were not disappointed. Good Sri Lankan food, good Indian (chicken Biryani, my favourite) and good Chinese. Very reasonably priced too. Don't miss it!

Sea Joyless service..

I visited for breakfast after reading the many a positive review. Place was empty. Ordered a black tea and a Sri Lankan breakfast if available. The miserable old battle-axe serving, plonked a bowl of dried out, cubed boiled potato sprinkled with desiccated coconut on my table, claiming ‘’this is Sri Lankan breakfast’’ Was she having a giraffe? Seriously? It was only 9.30am, and this was her attitude at the start of the day! And the tea? Tepid water served separately to a tea bag… Worst experience in Sri Lanka thus far…

Very Bad much better options further up the road.

If you like Spicy food forget it! I ordered Sri Lankan rice and curry spicy but when it came it was a very small meal that tasted bland with no spice at all. When I complained the staff were very belligerent with the manager lady at the desk telling me they don't do spicy because customers don't like it. I thought I was in the wrong country and they obviously don't cater for Sri Lankans!

Sorry about the inconvenience. Most of the customers visit us request low spicy food. So the chefs are used to provide for that need. Come back one day and say you need lot of spicy before you order and we would love to provide it.

The Sea Joy restaurant served up a very nice lunch. Close to our hotel, it was the first Sri Lankan food that we enjoyed after flying into Colombo. The food was good and hit the spot as we were hungry. Price was excellent but quality was still excellent. One dish for each person is enough along with a beer or two.

Save room for dessert!

Night two of our stay in Negombo and we ventured a little further afield to Sea Joy. A warm welcome and an easy order from the extensive menu; Sri Lankan chicken curry for me and devilled prawns for my partner. The former was very tasty and a big portion but the latter a little disappointing. Food highlight of the evening were the banana fritters served with a warm honey drizzle - too good!

This is a RIP OFF

This is a RIP OFF. We DO NOT RECOMMEND. We ordered three portions of chop suey mixed fried rice. We were told that one portion serves two (2). But one portion was hardly enough for a child. And it also took an hour from the time the order was placed. What a disappointment.

Great value and great food

IVe now had dinner here twice - the first time special kottu and the second time, chicken with ginger and green pepper. I was asked both times how spicy I wanted my food and both times, it was incredible. After 8 weeks in Sri Lanka, I can honestly say that these were the best meals I’ve had. The cost was so good compared to other places. One very hardworking and happy waiter. I will definitely come again.

Looks more expensive than us is!

I was looking for a cheap place for my last breakfast in Sri Lanka, that I could afford with my last few rupies. I have found it here :) I have had some Rotti with coconut sambal and good oration of dal and a cup of tea. For 300 rupies (= 1,20€! ). They had prepared 2 fresh rottis within 10 minutes! And the black tea was not bitter. A filling, delicious and authentic breakfast :) The owner and the stuff are friendly and the restaurant is clean and cozy, really great atmosphere. I wished, I had found it earlier. Thank you!

Friendly good vibes reasonable pricing

While strolling the Main Street a friendly waiter convinced me to come in!. I had Rice & curry prawns and a bottle of beer! Quick service, ok food, small amount of prawns!

Good place to eat and even has rooms to rent. Check it out. I usually go for breakfast and have bacon pancakes which in Sri Lanka are crepes and not like the American pancakes.

Compared to other restaurants around our hotel, the food at sea joy was quite good. We had some pasta, seafood and a pumpkin soup. All were pleasant. Price was pretty cheap, no attempt at scamming the tourists, which we have experienced at some other places nearby.

Great experience

We had our first lunch in Sri Lanka in this restaurant and it was great experience. The outside seating area was very relaxing it had a feeling like a family house. We tried Sri Lankan rice, beef curry and tuna curry and it was delicious and affordable priced. The service was great, we enjoyed the conversation with the waiter who was very knowledgeable and friendly person yet very professional. Definitely reccomend it!
