Sea food restaurant, you can select live fish and ask to prepare dish. Service is poor, prices are quite high they charged 7500 LKR for kg crab. No value for money, taste is also average.

A return visit after some time completely exceeded expectations. The garden area has a wonderful atmosphere, bamboo trees, fairy lights, chilled background music, very different from other local options. A brief but heavy rain shower resulted in swift relocation to the restaurant downstairs, equally well appointed, great service and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent all round, most of our party went with sizzling steak which arrived with a flourish of flames and smoke. I had tuna steak, beautifully presented cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Cocktails and gin also went down well.... a little bit more expensive than other options but well worth it. Fabulous evening all round!

Friends who had been staying with us treated us on their last night. We chose Amal Villa and were all very happy with our meals. My langosteen was amazing. My friends had Coral fish and calamaries which were delicious. My boyfriend had a very tender steak. I got to taste the fish dishes too! The coconut roti and garlic butter with a finely sliced coleslaw salad was a lovely included starter. The owner and the waiters made sure we felt special. We finished off with Arrack Attack cocktails. A perfect meal. Thank you Amal Villa Restaurant.

Given the reputation, we expected better. I ordered the crab soup of the day (advertised at 750 rupees on a sign board). My partner ordered the "French style" seafood soup at 1,250 rupees, expecting a sort of bouillabaise fare. After a long wait, we were both served the same soup that tasted like Campbell's Tomato with a tablespoon of crab tossed into one and prawns in the other. I was charged 950 rupees. Both were awful. We complained and were offered 10% off. I didn't realize I was charge 950 for the 750 rupee soup. One of the few places that does not offer free filtered water. Will not return.

Nice location with tables on the beach and beautiful lighting. well decorated for a nice beach dinner.
The food was ok, not too great and rather average. The Meinungsstreiten Sri Lankan, Chinese, Japanese, American, Indian sections which is strange. A part of the order was missed out unfortunately.
The service was bad: two waiters and 3 occupied tables, still the waiters were hardly available or unfriendly. Gave the feeling they didn’t even bother to work and show hospitality. Didn’t want to go to the restaurant to get the drinks which were not at the beach bar, played horrible loud techno music, didn’t look for their customers to see if they have any need. Brought the bill without being asked at the moment the plate was finished. All the Family run Restaurants in Bentota have very warm service but these two guys are lazy and couldn’t care less. Disappointing when you consider which potential this place could have. In times were hardly any tourist are visiting this type of behavior just seems wrong.

We last visited Amal 8 years ago and found it good. So we went back tonight....not so good!
We walked in from the beach and sat at the front watching the sunset. Great! Ordered some beers - fine.
Ordered two of the most expensive priced items on the menu (Devilled seafoood selection)...fine until it came: hunt the lobster, hunt the prawn, where's the crab? Very poor. Very, very poor. And, adding insult to injury, the bill included a 20% service charge! 20% FFS! And we'd had to walk round to the bar to order the food, because nobody bothered to seek an order.
Not good enough. SLR 6,000 for two crappy meals? I don't think so! Plus beers.
Next time we'll go to Wunderbar.
You've blown a bunch of goodwill tonight, folks 👋

It was a live seafood restaurant (though on the expensive side). We chose fish and squid for our lunch. They cook it as per our choice, grilled or a curry accompanied with rice. We chose both. All the dishes were succulent and very fresh that left us mouth watering. Overall a great experience!

Visited for dinner. Location is pleasant- there is a garden seating area and a beach seating which is 100m down from the main restaurant and has a 20% surcharge on prices. We opted fr beach as we thought it would be nicer. The downside being that service is slower. The food was very expensive and at best ordinary. I ordered a french seafood soup. It tasted like a canned mushroom soup which had some seafood in it. We also ordered a mushroom pepper steak- it had mushroom and it had pepper but it was definitely not a steak. A peppery stew at best with not great bits of meat. The location was the only positive here. So maybe a good option for some beers on the beach. Not more.

Our first day in Bentota and went for lunch to Amal beach restaurant as it is In a great location ...big mistake! We ordered two beers and it took a while for them to arrive. The guy serving us obviously didn't want to be there! We ordered another two beers and same wait. We ordered food and it took over an hour to arrive. The food was average. Our bill came and included a 20% service charge (which was not discretionary). Shocking. We will not be back and would not recommend.

The the food was good.
The outlet used to have subtle negative vibes towards Sri Lankans when the tourists were travelling to the country. The waiters were unprofessional enough to suggest other outlets. We have only taken food out as the staff were indirectly hinting us that we should not sit and dine due to being locals.

We wanted a lunch dining experience on a sandy beach and had planned to do it at Hikkaduwa but nothing looked good. Unfortunately Hikkaduma has suffered from the pandemic and not the tourist place it was years ago with many businesses now closed. Our private driver suggested this restaurant as an alternative on our way back to Negombo. There is an on the beach restaurant which is still part of this place if you cross the railway line and walk to the sea. Fair service, basic choice of meals and many variations of locations where to dine including an outdoors area and rooms in the buildings. Our table on the beach was in the hot sun so we moved the table and chairs ourselves so we we under the shade of the trees. We weren't sure of what this restaurant was about even though the waiter showed us a cabinet full of fish but didn't explain anything. Unfortunately no person explained that their specialty is seafood and even though it had prices by weight we had no idea how heavy the fish was so opted for a burger. On arrival it felt like a tourist trap with brightly coloured staff shirts, heaps of staff pulling us and guiding us all over the place and an air of squeezing money out of the tourists brought to this establishment. I ignored all the waiters pulling and guiding us and wandered off and found a path that lead to the beach. The waiters were so forceful we nearly missed the beach experience we had come for. As it was a late lunch we were the only customers on the beach at the time we ate. It is a shame as now seeing photos of the seafood meals I think we missed out on a good experience because of over-zealous waiters. The burger was not very good but chips and beer were okay. Was expensive by Sri Lankan prices and it felt like we were given a "tourist menu" with inflated prices. A 3 piece band played a few songs and we tipped them for their effort. As a suggestion to management they probably need to not rush the new tourist entering your business as it is confusing due to it's sprawling layout. Perhaps explain in more detail the various options and explain the costings better. We didn't even see a Sri Lankan or Asian menu so I guess the waiter just tried to sell us something basic. Your loss as if we had know we probably would have bought a more expensive seafood lunch if we had understood what was going on. At least our driver got a free lunch out of it!!!

Pick your fresh seafood on arrival, 2-3 varieties of fish, 3-5 sizes of prawns to choose from and lobster, as well as the menu at your table.
6x King Prawns were huge, cooked perfectly and very meaty.
Mrs J had fish and chips, which the portion size was very small, still enjoyed it though.
Staff very friendly and attentive and called our Tut-Tut driver so he was ready and waiting for us as we left.
Excellent meal & excellent service, well done all.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful evening here after being recommended the place by our tuk tuk driver. We sat in the garden area which was lit up beautifully. Our server recommended we try the Para fish which was absolutely incredible, the picture does not do the flavours justice. The service was brilliant! I’d really recommend this place 😍
