We decided to support a local restaurant during a time that most needed support. Seated by the door was very cold, and the place was not full because of social distancing. Food was good, tasty but average for the price. I had a $50 veal...chop that was undercooked. I asked to have the chef maybe cook a little more but was returned 10 minutes later basically the same level of rawness. I had asked for medium. Small plates of pasta accompanied the dinners. Sauce was good. Service was very good and attentive. I was surprised being this is one of Albany’s best restaurants .More

We waited 20 minutes outside (no waiting area inside) even though we had reservations. The service was very nice, the food excellent. I'd go there more often if I lived nearer (was visiting in Albany). Easy street parking.

This place is a gem. Authentic Italian food that is consistent ever visit. The place is old school and has no been updated which gives it the real charm. Great place and great staff also. Be sure to enjoy a four course meal here and...I promise you will not be disappointed!More

I wish we had a restaurant like Caffe Italia close to us! This is a cozy restaurant that has been in the same location for decades. We were greeted warmly (even though we arrived rather late in the evening), sat promptly and any questions we...had about the menu were addressed honestly. We opted for four apps and all of them were delicious. They put a unique twist on classic beans and greens by adding a some tomatoes. Highly recommended.More

A true, authentic NY Italian like I remember from my NYC days. A solid 4+ star experience! Service was great. Menu was diverse and anything you wanted. Very tight tables and packed restaurant is very noisy. Good quality, traditional Italian at reasonable prices. Very nice...wine list. I'd return on my next trip to Albany.More

Last Friday night, my husband and I ventured down to Caffe Italia, armed with a $100 gift card from our daughter to celebrate our 34th anniversary. We were able to secure a 5:30 reservation from Dominic a couple of days prior. The last time I...had set foot in Caffe Italia was in the early 1980s. My husband had never been, in spite of having grown up in the neighborhood. I swear the decor has not changed an iota, which I found comforting. We were seated immediately by Joey, our affable, attentive waiter, and given divine, chewy bread and drinks—a Peroni for my husband and a glass of Pinot Noir for me. Simple house salads arrived on the coldest plates I have ever touched and were consumed with gusto. We both had Italian wedding soup to start and every ingredient sang a distinct song. It was fabulous. We also then did something we NEVER do: we ordered the same dinner, Veal Oscar, described in sumptuous detail by Joey. Hubs is usually wary of medallions of anything—he is more of a Cutlet or Chop Guy—but there was plenty of meat to satisfy his appetite and his desire to get bang for our buck. His pasta was served with a pomodoro sauce on the side; I opted to have my veal piled onto my cappellnii and sauced à la Oscar, which incurred an unsuspected $2 upcharge. The pasta was perfect, the veal tender, the sauces perfection. Listening to the dessert menu recited to another table was agony. We split a nice slice of Key Lime pie and called it a night. Caffe Italia was heaving with apparent regulars and the noise level was a bit higher than one might expect, but this in no way detracted from our experience—it rather enhanced it. Everyone who worked there helped each other out and they obviously take pride in the lovingly crafted food. Our check—for a beer, two glasses of wine, a cup and bowl of soup, two mains and a slice of pie—came to $112 before tip. A bit steep but worth every penny. We will return with pleasure.More

We had dinner there last night with another couple. Excellent meals, especially the pasta fagioli. Very small and can be noisy but the food is superb.

This place is so small, you'll pass it by if you blink. Don't blink. Don't pass it by. Stop in. You'll have the dining experience of a lifetime. Impressively dressed waiters. Impressive dinner menu. Impressive service. Impressive food. There wasn't anything NOT TO LIKE about...this great little "find" located Uptown Albany on Central Avenue. Never been there before....will be going back soon. From appetizers to the bread to the entrees to dessert, it was an experience not to be missed. From the Eggplant Rollitini to Parmigiana, from exquisite chicken and veal dishes, and the amazing ending of Lemon Cake, you'll walk out completely sated.More
