We started with the Julia James Pinot Noir and I highly recommend this. We shared the fried calamari appetizer, so fresh! I had the veal with figs, the others had the salmon carpaccio and filet mignon - so good! Enjoy!
5 star Italian food! Very delicious and generous portion sizes. The Mediterraneao, chicken parm, mushroom risotto, and pesto pasta are to die for. Service is wonderful and very friendly. Will definitely keep returning!
Enjoyed a lovely dinner on the patio at Grappa yesterday evening with friends. Chicken Saltimbocca was especially delicious. Fabulous cocktails too and very efficient service from the staff. The patio is surrounded by greenery, screens and curtains, so diners are well shielded and with that...great food it is possible to imagine you're somewhere more exotic than Central Ave in Albany!!More

We stopped overnight in Albany on a trip to Long Island NY. We inquired about local restaurants at the hotel and they were only remotely familiar with Grappa '72. Tripadvisor reviews seemed decent so we decided to go.
Upon pulling up to the restaurant it...was a bit underwhelming in it's strip mall environment. This changes the minute you walk in. The restaurant is unmistakably Italian in it's decor.
We settled in and ordered a bottle of wine. Our meal consisted of a Burrata appetizer and Calamari. Our main course's consisted of Vongole and Vitello alla Pizzaiola. These are meals we have ordered frequently at other Italian restaurants and we considered all of our meal to be excellent. Service was excellent, prices were reasonable considering the quality and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. We would have loved to stuck around for the live music but we had an early morning stop and opted out, we wish we could have stayed.
If/when we visit Albany again this will be a 'must stop' for us.More
Friends raved about this place. We must have hit a bad night as things were just not right in many ways. The wait staff tries hard, but must be coached to serve the ladies first, take their orders first, etc. The water person did a...remarkable job of keeping our glasses filled. But as for true Service, there was nothing special. I made the mistake of using both my salad and dinner forks for my salad, and my dinner knife for my bread. A restaurant with true Service would have unobtrusively replaced them. The server didn't bother. The sauce from my entree dripped on the tablecloth. A restaurant with true Service would have placed a napkin over the drip spots after clearing the entree dishes. It was ignored. That sort of thing. The food was overpriced and unremarkable. Duck was served with skin-on and 1/4 fat layer below. Exposed meat was dry. Wild rice accompaniment tasted like a mix. Carrots were halved lengthwise and heavily peppered. On the good side, staff was friendly and nice. Our server kept our individual couples' checks straight as well as seeing that everyone got what they ordered. But it just wasn't what I was expecting. We hadn't been to this place since it was Carmine's many years ago and the decor, carpet, walls, etc seemed to not have been updated. The place has potential, but we didn't see it at this visit.More
I frequent Grappa '72 often. For both lunch and dinner, it can't be beat. My wife and I are very particular about Italian food and we won't eat at any other establishment in the Albany area. Food is always hot, delicious and served with the...utmost professionalism.More
