I frequent Grappa '72 often. For both lunch and dinner, it can't be beat. My wife and I are very particular about Italian food and we won't eat at any other establishment in the Albany area. Food is always hot, delicious and served with the utmost professionalism.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner on the patio at Grappa yesterday evening with friends. Chicken Saltimbocca was especially delicious. Fabulous cocktails too and very efficient service from the staff. The patio is surrounded by greenery, screens and curtains, so diners are well shielded and with that great food it is possible to imagine you're somewhere more exotic than Central Ave in Albany!!

Outstanding food wonderful atmosphere. One dining room is lighted with warm cozy lighting while the other is right out of an institution. Gary-blue green LED lights. Garish and a strain on the eyes. Not eve suited for a funeral home!!! Makes people look sickly and doesn't compliment the food. Basic knowledge of any interior designer never t do this. For someone with the best food in Albany, I hope management corrects this. Glad I wasn't seated in this room. I plan on eating here again, and will make it a point never to be seated in here. presentation. Make sure to request to be seated in he non LED dining room.

Friends raved about this place. We must have hit a bad night as things were just not right in many ways. The wait staff tries hard, but must be coached to serve the ladies first, take their orders first, etc. The water person did a remarkable job of keeping our glasses filled. But as for true Service, there was nothing special. I made the mistake of using both my salad and dinner forks for my salad, and my dinner knife for my bread. A restaurant with true Service would have unobtrusively replaced them. The server didn't bother. The sauce from my entree dripped on the tablecloth. A restaurant with true Service would have placed a napkin over the drip spots after clearing the entree dishes. It was ignored. That sort of thing. The food was overpriced and unremarkable. Duck was served with skin-on and 1/4 fat layer below. Exposed meat was dry. Wild rice accompaniment tasted like a mix. Carrots were halved lengthwise and heavily peppered. On the good side, staff was friendly and nice. Our server kept our individual couples' checks straight as well as seeing that everyone got what they ordered. But it just wasn't what I was expecting. We hadn't been to this place since it was Carmine's many years ago and the decor, carpet, walls, etc seemed to not have been updated. The place has potential, but we didn't see it at this visit.

Food was phenomenal!! The waitstaff is superb. The reason for four stars instead of five is the hostess. Very unfriendly, very un-accomodating. We were at Grappa for a romantic evening, she was aware of it, and we were seated by the kitchen, next to the server's station. We asked if we could be moved to a different table and were told, very curtly, no! There was one other couple in the restaurant at the time. The table next to us, which was the one we asked for, was seated about 15 minutes before we left. In spite of her, we had a lovely evening! The food is absolutely amazing! And the portions are perfect - not so much that you have to take so much home. Our waitress, as well as the rest of the waitstaff, was wonderful! And prices are very reasonable - we were pleasantly surprised when she brought our bill! We even checked it over to be sure we were charged for everything! Despite the attitude of the hostess (maybe she was having a bad day), we highly recommend Grappa 72!!

This used to be my favorite in the region. Last time we went in November, we had to beg for more bread..the service was lacking. On this visit, the service was excellent. The rappini and beans was also excellent The rest of the meals were just okay including the daily special papparini with shrimp. They do not offer the price when offering the specials, so we were quite surprised to be charged $29 for a bowl of pasta with only 4 four! medium unshelled shrimp mixed in. I’ve found a new replacement for a favorite Italian restaurant, one that cleans its shrimp before serving.

It took 2 hours from being seated to receive 5 out of 6 meals and 15 minutes later, the 6th meal….and they were not hot. Three of us ordered a special, to be told 20 minutes later they were out of it. All reordered a substitute entree but had to flag down waitress who appeared to forget about us, after giving us menus again to rechoose. Another 20 minutes later, we were told they were out of potatoes. Meanwhile we were filling up on bread and drinking too much wine…waiting, waiting, waiting. The dining room at this point had emptied out, so it wasn’t because they were busy. The food was tasty even though it was not hot, and the portions were skimpy. Service was not the best. So very disappointed as this used to be a good restaurant.

A hidden gem… looks like a strip mall restaurant from the outside, but on the inside, a classy upscale Italian place. Sat at the bar. Exemplary service and the food pretty good. I got Zio Anthony’a Pasta and liked it. The Caesar Salad is as good as anywhere. Both have a spicy kick to them. Wide variety of cocktails, and enough Italian wine to be credible. The only real expensive dishes are their top line secondi dishes… which I did not get this time, because I wanted to get the base dishes that would bring me back solo on a repeat basis (I learned of this place and am near this place periodically because a Hertz rental car place is next door). And the answer is: YES, I shall be back!

Great, personable service. We dined at the bar. Good wine list and a fairly diverse menu, with maybe a tad too many pasta options. I had a veal dish and my husband had the duck. The flavor was good but both were too heavy in sauces. So, for us in the end, it was just average to slightly above average overall.

We had two veal 72 dinners as take out. Drove from Saratoga Springs where we have many great restaurants. Grappa’s food is the best tasting compared to any restaurants in in 50 mile areas. The dinners were so good that we will not order veal anywhere other than grappa!

We were in town for the Saratoga races twice this summer and decided to go to Grappa 72 both times. First of all, when you walk in, you're greeted by a trio of musicians. The dining room is elegant with white tablecloths, but the real stars are the servers and food. Everything is home made, including the desserts! We both had the Fettucine with Bolognese sauce and I can say it's one of the best sauces I've ever had out. We also had a bowl of Mushroom soup before dinner which was equally good. The owner was visiting patrons in the dining room. We're from Rochester NY, and we used to have restaurants like this, but not any longer. We are looking forward to returning to the area so we can go again. If you're in the area, you owe it to yourself to go there.

We visited Grappa on a recent weekend with friends. From the bartender to our server, the service was well above average. Siena (sp?) our server, did a terrific job explaining the selections and taking care of all our requests. The food (excellent) came out in a timely fashion and all enjoyed their entrees. We will definitely come back to try different entrees that all sounded delicious 👍

We were here for my birthday celebration and it didn’t disappoint. Nice atmosphere, friendly service and tasty food. We enjoyed our appetizers and entrees. Plus a wonderful complimentary birthday cake! My onky comment is that the menu has a lot of meat and seafood, so if you are a vegetarian or do not eat dish/seafood you may have trouble here, with respect to the entrees.(not su much with the appetizers). Definitely need reservations!

We had a party of 12, and we were in the wine room. The server was great, and drinks were constantly filled. I’m used to many Italian restaurants being “feeding troughs.” Many are more concerned with “quantity” over “quality.” This place is the exception! Everything is made with care and love. They feature a lot of veal dishes (their specialty), and I would highly recommend the following: burrata salad app, scallops with mushroom risotto (scallops were cooked perfectly), and the Vitello Alla ‘72.

Old fashioned decor with good ambiance Good food however risotto was over cooked and Osso Bucco average. Wines by the glass were ok but could use better selections for diners who want better quality wines by the glass. No Fernet Branca (Italian) and limited Amaro selection. Food portions are large with many people leaving with take out boxes. Tiramisu was outstanding. Good parking access. Service was excellent.
