Visited La Fonda on a Sunday night (about the only place open). After reading the reviews I was a bit of a skeptic. I was rather surprised. The decor was dated- very 70's looking and they bring food and drinks out on a little cart. But the place appeared to be clean. The service was good. More importantly the food... More

Great surprise in the middle of a long day. The specials Loco Burrito was delicious & huge enough for two meals. My hubby got tacos & loved them too. Great service too!

Run of the mill Mexican restaurant - no beer or alcohol- tired desolate ambiance - sad food - but at least a place to eat after 7 pm on a Sunday evening

I've noticed a lot of people commenting that they were sent to La Fonda by locals, so let me explain something (my dad was a local)- according to everyone who remembers the '60s and '70s at La Fonda, it was good once. Really good, according to my dad, and he's a Mexican food snob, so I trust him. But apparently,... More

I'm giving 1 star because this place did not make a good first impression. 8pm on a Tuesday, should have been pleasant. But my waitress was worthless. Didn't write my order down, and got it wrong. Told her double rice, no beans. Get beans and rice. 1 refill when I was 3/4 done with my meal. Brought me 2 chip... More

I had lunch at La Fonda today. I had the flauta plate and my husband had the Guadalajara (signature dish). We had an appetizer order of guacamole as well. The service was quick and friendly. The food was good as well. If you are a Tex-Mex lover, you will likely enjoy their fare. My friends from my hometown of Hobbs... More

We stopped on our way through Artesia. This restaurant was conveniently located at the turn we had to make on 285. We walked in and were pleasantly greeted and seated. We were given chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like Pace salsa to me. Not bad, but nothing special. I ordered the smothered empanada with white sauce (sauce recommended by... More

It was recommended to us from a local. It was a tex-mex style we wanted authentic style. Have nothing bad to say. The place was clean. The staff was friendly. Great location.

This place is very Gringo for a Mexican restaurant. I'm Gringo and it was too flavorless for me. I don't know if it's just a different style than I'm used to in South Texas, but I couldn't even eat the refried beans. Everything else was okay, but not great. It was hot. The portions were decent. It was fresh and... More

Ate here again because we always have when in the area, which is infrequent. The food seems more average than it was in the last 30 years. Will look for some spicier food next time.
