As others have noted, this place is hard to find, especially at night. Drove right by it (despite my GPS) twice before noticing all the parked cars. Building is perpendicular to the road and there is no sign except over the entrance to the building....Anyway, the food is terrific. Had Chipotle chicken, served with beans, rice, four tortillas, and salad. All for $13.50. It was way too much food but I'll enjoy the rerun at home. Coming from New England as I do, I am not sure what "authentic" is but I do know that everything was made from scratch, the flavors were wonderful, and the server did blink when I told her about my lactose issues (no cheese or sour cream). This is exactly what I am looking for when I travel. Local, people who care about the food running the kitchen, family atmosphere. Bravo!More

I was recently in Artesia, and we ate dinner one evening at La Herradura (LH). LH is a restaurant that is literally on the other side of the tracks in a poor part of Artesia; however, do not let that deter you! The food is...great, and the price is superb, especially compared to the price of New Mexican food in a larger city. I had a combination plate that included a taco, a rolled enchilada, and a chile relleno; with that, beans and rice were included. The cost? $10.50. The taste was super! I have eaten there before, and I've greatly enjoyed everything I've eaten there. Note: On Sundays after church, it's my understanding that the place is packed with locals. Note 2: I grew up about 3 blocks from the restaurant, and the people from that part of town (Morningside) are really great people!More

This place is located in a residential neighborhood not a business district. At first I thought my GPS was off. I got here at 1 pm and their were lots of car ( and trucks) parked outside. Always a good sign. Food was good, authentic....Prices were very reasonable. Service was lovely. Great roadtrip find for meMore

We came here for lunch, the room was full. People here worked hard, to get you seated as soon as possible, get your order and food as soon as possible. The combination dish w ordered was really good.

We have eaten here several times when we are in Artesia. The food is amazing. The portions are great. The price/value is second to none. We look forward to eating there every time we are in Artesia!

The best traditional Mexican food in artesia. Be prepared. The food is spicy. The chipotle is awesome. The location is not the best but the food makes it worth it.

A colleague and I had lunch here today. We ordered water, caldo de res and guacamole. The water was fine(how bad can someone screw up a glass of water) the caldo was great....but, of all things the guacamole was a terrible representation of guacamole at...a real Mexican diner. It was served very watery with absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. Horrible. Honestly, it looked and tasted like smashed avocados with water to make it look like more food We were so disappointed. Do not order the guacamole. 👎🏼More

This is located in a very sketchy neighborhood, and the building was equally suspect. There were broken windows visible from the street. It is also hard to find because it is set back, and perpendicular to the road. The food may very well be good,...but the wife did not want to stop here.More

Great simple menu. Tacos were great as were the Chile Relleno. Service was quick but it will get busy in a hurry when open.

Large portions, nice variety, seems fresh. Service a bit slow, but worth it. Lots of locals. Needs to serve wine.

This place isn’t for everyone, but it’s a very reasonable, local food place that’s good for the whole family. No alcohol is served here, but the food is plentiful and authentic. I particularly liked the chicken fajita, and my wife raved about her tacos. They...only serve chips and salsa if you ask for it The meal portions rad generous and tasty. Don’t be put off by the neighborhood or the plain building; good food awaits you inside.More

Stopped there yesterday. I had 3 tacos. Asado & chicken fajita. One of the nice things with ordering tacos is you can ask for different fillings for each taco. The Asado is wonderful if you like HOT mexican food. Chicken fajita is very mild. But...you can add salsa. Try the queso with green chilies or chorizo. My husband had the fish. He said it was good. Don’t forget sopapillas with honey for desert.More

I was taken here by a friend while training in Artesia. The place has a weird location and it definitely doesn't look like a restaurant on the outside. However, you should give it a chance! I got caldo de res, three tacos, a Mexican coke,...and pastel de tres leches. Very good taste!More
