Beautiful selection of burekas, or phyllo pastries with all type of fillings, both savory and sweet. 16 nis for large round ones and 3nis for smaller ones. My eggplant one had cheese in with it and it was great. Not far from the flea market....Also, right up the street on the corner (closer to the flea market) there is a juice bar that was great - he made me a mixture of carrot , orange and pomegranate that was so fresh and delicious.More

Touring Yafo on a week day? Stop by and enjoy great filo pastry bourekas or sweets. Take home when you have visits and be sure that everyone will ask you where did you buy those delicious pastries. ENJOY

Located right off Jerusalem Avenue, Leon has been making Burek of the Bulgarian/Turkish type - i.e. with filo dough - since 1948, when his mother Julie began making them. Today his two sons continue the tradition of delicious burek (Israelis erroneously use the plural burekas...as a singluar). They have many types of burek - I like cheese or cheese with spinach most, as well as many other sweets and pastries. The important part is that the burek are made with wonderfully crunchy layers of filo pastry and no margarine or trans-fats, just a bit of Canola oil, making this decadent pastry somewhat healthier. The price is also very reasonable - about NIS 15 (under EUR 4) per burek and if you have it with the various condiments its NIS 22 (about EUR 5). A lovely way to have a snack in the late morning while walking around old Jaffa!More

The Bulgarian immigrants settled in Jaffa originally. They are a Ladino speaking community, with their own cuisine and culture. The story of how many of them survived the holocaust is interesting but belongs elsewhere. But they added a word to the Hebrew vocabulary, in addition...to their great food. It is "hayde": a cheering word hardly anyone knows anymore the origins of, (a Balkan word) which they yelled to encourage the Jaffa soccer team. Leon's borek place is small but authentic. In it you can find a varaiety of boreks, more commonly called borekas, made of two kinds of dough. There are also frozen ones to take home and bake fresh. The fillings include leek and lots of other hard to find stuff. They also sell Sephardic cakes and cookies galore. You can eat on location and take home more as you please. I like to stop there on my way into or out of my sojourns to the flea market. Have fun.More

A few days ago had the cheese and spinach filled phyllo pastry at Leon and Sons Bakery. That thing is to die for,so yummy. They do their own phyllo, and it is excellent.

They make the tastiest sweet as well as salty Bulgarian boreckas. The best thing is that they use no margarine or saturated fats so no need to think twice. I often breakfast there but have also ordered trays for family events.

Our friend from a Bulgarian family recommended this place as one of the best in Jaffa, and he was correct. Unlike most other burekas bakeries, they don't use margarine. Try their feta or potato burekas.

This isn't really where you'll find the hipsters drinking their coffee or all the cool kids. This isn't that kind of place. This place is very "neighborhood" and you'll find groups of older local men sitting, discussing every topic under the sun during their meal...here. We call it, or them, "Parliament" and you get that experience here free, when you come to enjoy their bourekas and other pastries. You'll also find families dining here, which is always a good sign. I don't really eat too many bourekas, as I don't enjoy the texture as much and would rather eat a croissant instead. But, my partner took me here (it is his favorite place to get them) and I really enjoyed their presentation and the boureka itself. Very tasty with the various sauses and side items as well. I saw a Hebrew lead (Israeli) tour come here when dining, so it is is known for quality. Mostly people seem to come and pick up their dish to go, but if you have time, sit and enjoy the truly local experience and food of Israel and Tel Aviv. The service is to the point, but pretty good about it all. They were pretty nice and friendly, but the service isn't really the point of one of these places. The food is and they certainly deliver. It doesn't look like much, either. So don't let that scare you off. Local, great food, amazing look into a quieter aspect of the culture: what more could you want!? It seems most of the locals already know about it, from the numbers I saw pass through during our meal there.More
