About
Cafe Wayan and Bakery Established in 1986 We are happy to have had so many nice guests come to enjoy our food for over 32 years. Cafe Wayan started as a small warung (a local food stall) where Ibu Wayan sold black rice pudding and coffee to the rice farmers on what has now become Monkey Forest Road. Tourist began walking down "the path" to the Monkey Forest and stopped by for a coffee, snacks or to buy peanuts for the monkeys. Ibu Wayans always love to cook as a child and soon the menu began to expand. Return friends to Ubud began helping with recipes of western dishes as long term visitors and residents sometimes miss their own food too. Ibu Wayan began traveling abroad and learned more western cooking with Chef Joe Schultz of India Joes's restaurant in Santa Cruz, California and also learned the art of Thai cuisine in Bangkok.

Cafe Wayan is definitely an example of Old Bali style and service. I have been going to Cafe Wayan for almost as long as it has been open. The garden setting is delightful and welcoming. The menu is a wide mix of Indonesian and International cuisine. My favourite is the Chicken Curry however the Nasi Campur - a little taste of everything - is a delight. The familiarity of the offerings on the table makes me feel as though I have come home. I always enjoy a Bintang besar for lunch or in the evening a Two Islands Shiraz.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Manager, Sumia, during my last visits and I couldn't find the words to give more praise regarding the manner in which he and his staff work as a team to please their customers..

Great food and beautiful traditional restaurant. I’ve visited Bali many times and always visit this restaurant in Ubud. Tasty traditional meals and a relaxed environment with private pavilions to share a meal with friends and family.

The Wayan restaurant was our favourite in 2008 and we were very happy to find out it still existed, had not changed at all and the food was still very good. Enjoyed it a lot. Of course, in the meantime, Ubud has a lot more to offer, but this place is a bit old-style, like Bali used to be in the past when it was less touristic and more original. Recommend warmly.

I was here the previous day for coffee and chocolate cake (Death by Chocolate) and was thrilled. I looked over the menu in hopes of returning. I did manage, I went again for lunch and wanted something simple. I ordered the chicken burger, the menu reads 150 grams of chicken. What showed up was a chicken patty that was most definitely not the weight it was supposed to have been and would have made a MacDonald chicken burger stand high and proud (and that's a really sad statement). The fries were cooked in an oil that made the fries not even taste like fries. The salad was brilliant, crispy fresh, perfectly dressed. If the meat had been made better then the price is worth it. If this restaurant can make killer chocolate cake, what's so hard about the chicken.

What a fantastic cooking class we did at Cafe Wayan! We learned to make a delicious range of dishes (all so tasty, especially the Balinese chicken salad!) under the expert guidance of Yanak and Made, and with the help of Iluh. The cooks are so informative and patient. We highly recommend this lovely class in the tranquility of Cafe Wayan's beautiful herb and vege garden.

Felt unwelcome from the second we walked in. The staff avoided all eye contact, and we felt that they could not get us out of the restaurant soon enough. When we asked to pay, the waiter mumbled sentences in indonesian language, and with an unfriendly tone. An extremely unpleasant experience allltogether. We were unable to enjoy the food or drinks (which for the record were the poorest culinary experience we’ve had in whole Bali) because they made us feel so unwanted... Do NOT go here!

Great food. AMAZING HOMEMADE ICE CREAM. Came here twice in our visit to ubud. Got traditional Indonesian one time and pizza the next. Pizza was pretty good but overstuffed with toppings (spinach and mushroom) and made it hard to eat and greasy with the juice they used to sauté the veggies. Very reasonable prices

This place is gorgeous, very deep with separate seating areas, in both Indonesian and Western style. My dish came way too spicy for me to eat, and the owner substituted something else without charging me more for it. Everyone was polite, friendly and attentive. The menu is pretty broad, and the desserts heavenly. We liked so much we returned to it again.

I recently took part in a private cooking class with Chefs Yanak and Wayan and it was excellent! I have many food allergies, so finding safe, authentic Balinese food is difficult. However, everyone was very accommodating - showing me all the raw ingredients in advance, removing the ones I could not have, and making easy substitutions. I was able to cook and enjoy a full, delicious multi-course meal - dessert and all. I would definitely come here again and recommend this to anyone who enjoys cooking or want to learn more about Indonesian cuisine. Terima kasih!

I booked this class the night before. Response was immediate.
As we were the only 2 people booked we got to choose from 6 menus, what we would like to cook. It was amazing and so interesting. The chef and his assistants were patient and helpful. 2 hours of fantastic learning and conversation, followed by a huge lunch. All set in an authentic Balinese garden. What an incredible experience. Can't recommend highly enough.
Just do it....you'll love every minute. Very reasonably priced.

We popped in to this ordinary-looking cafe (from the front) in need of coffee. Wandering out the back we found a stunning water garden stretching back for yards and yards, with super hidden seating areas, exotic planters, ponds and running water. After finding a nice spot to sit, we were entertained by beautiful red dragonflies, butterflies and other exotic fauna.
Oh, yes, the coffee was fine, my wife had a Jamu (healthy fruit cocktail) which is recommended. Along with a delicious cinnamon roll the cost was R124,630 (under ÂŁ7) - well worth it for the garden alone. Would definitely go back. We feel sure the food would match the quality of the venue

Wonderful atmosphere, delicious variety of food, extensive menu. This was our main dinner location in Ubud! Food was consistently delicious. They let you drink your own water without pressure to buy drinks. The back area in the forest has such spectacular ambiance! They have cooking classes as well so ask about them. We enjoyed every meal at this restaurant! The staff was courteous and polite with good English.

I highly recommend this restaurant. A very nice address to discover local specialties. This restaurant is the best we discovered in 2 weeks in Ubud and surrounding areas. The local specialties are excellent, everything is homemade for a relatively reasonable price considering the quality. The setting is superb, the staff are lovely and professional.

I have had the pleasure of eating here multiple times during my visits to Bali. Initially i was mistaken that it was merely a bakery as i wandered past the venue on several occasions. In reality, it is a high quality restaurant with traditional Balinese decor and relaxed atmosphere. I looked forward to returning when this Covid crisis finally stablises.

Great restaurant in Central Ubud. It’s very closed to Ubud Village Hotel (just a few steps always). The food and drinks were delicious (we had prawns, chicken, crispy duck, dragonfruit juice and cocktails), and the staff were warm friendly.
