About
Tulen stands for something done The Right Way. We at Tulen Restaurant believe that Balinese Traditional Cuisine is an undiscovered jewel often reserved for religious ceremonies or for locals in their family compound and being so, generally unavailable to foreign visitors. We aspire to change that — to offer a more refined and sophisticated version for all who visit Bali. Tulen also offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as an ‘Off Bali’ section featuring a selection of international cuisines for those who crave for a more familiar ‘taste of home’. You’ll find our restaurant in a breezy and lush Sri Wedari street, just a few minutes ride uphill from the centrally located Royal

We came without too high expectation despite good reviews in Tripadvisor, but we we were totally happy with the food! They had very authentic Balinese food as well as „Off-Bali“ dishes (mixture of western and asian). As starter I had Ayam Mesisit (smoked chicken mixed...in sambal matah and tossed with fried shallots; served with melinjo crackers) with extra spicy - otherwise the standard dish is mild, which was so tasty that my German husband also loved it, it was probabky the best one I ever had in my life! My husband had Shiitake Ravioli with butter thyme sauce , also excellent. As main dish I had Spicy Prawns which was extremely tasty and my husband had Beef Steak which was surprisingly very tender (medium) with tasty pepper sauce and rosemary potato wedges. We had a bottle of New Zealand Savignon Blanc, very good one with „relatively“ reasonable price (compared to other restaurantsin Ubud). The cocktails were not so good but you don‘t get too good cocktails in Bali for this price anyway. Good service (a bit shy but polite), location is also nice - not directly in crowded Ubud.More

This place was really great! In a beautiful setting of rice fields and the food is 5 stars! I started out with a vodka, cranberry, kombucha cocktail. Delicious and healthy! Next we started with Sayur Urap. Very delicious! For our mains I had the Tuna...Bakar Terong Renyah. The tuna steak was large and cooked exactly how I requested it (medium rare). So delicious. Plus it was nice trying the traditions Balinese sambal matah. My husband had the mahi mahi. He said it was delicious as well and was very impressed with the size of the portion. Try this place out. You won’t be disappointed!More

Top quality, many different ingredients, super fresh and just...damn delicious! We ate there two days in a row and only ever ordered sides - great! The food was quite amazing for such a little joint. Fresh and well cooked by an...attentive and friendly staff. The steak and potatoes are probably the best value I ever gotten on the island. Visited Tulen for a birthday dinner. The owner was present and personally described the items on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and well prepared. Dessert was great. The menu is at a higher price than the average Ubud restaurant, but not as high...as the resorts or more-known expensive restaurants. The quality of the meal and the amazing view/ambiance are worth the slightly higher price. The overall value was worth the price. This is a great place for an upscale celebration among the rice fields.More

My husband and I live in Ubud. Tulen has been one of our favorite restaurants for dining out and getting together with our expat friends. It was closed when the covid 19 started striking Bali. It re-opened again. We went there last night. It was...our 3rd visit since the re-opening. The dining area is open and surrounded by rice fields. At sundown, it is so relaxed and beautiful. Food menu is diverse and innovative. We ordered tuna sambal matah with rice crackers and beef steak and pho. We enjoyed it all. Steak is amazing as it has always been. Silvio is experimenting/making baklava and signed us up to be his guinea pigs. So we ordered durian ice cream and tamarillo to accompany his baklava ... it went so well together ... a happy ending!!! We both are appreciated the warm hospitality and attentive service by Silvio and his staff. My husband said they also have great wine selection there. Covid notes: spaces between tables are decent. Waiters, waitresses wear mask. We both got hand sanitizer sprayed when we first entered the restaurant.More
