Walking back from dinner on the beach near the Fairmont we decided to stop by for the famous gelato. The line was about 20 deep. You approach & pay ( very reasonable at only $2 for two scoops in small cup) and wait for your name to be called. There are over 30 flavours. Felt sorry for little gelato spots nearby

After some average choices we ended up at this restaurant and ended up eating all our evening meals there. Very extensive menu with something for everyone. Owner is an Italian ex pat who appears very hands on and standards are high. Restaurant is very busy so best to book ahead. Pasta is made fresh on premises. Pizza oven imported from Italy. Only downsides are that it can be slow service so don't come if you are in a hurry. The other downside is the gelato. Very good but the service is chaotic. People have to line up on the pavement to pay and then you wait for them to call your name. The problem is that the till attendant seems to go AWOL after every couple of customers and the lineups just get longer and longer and they dontseem to fill the orders on a first one basis. Recommend that you order your gelato with your meal to avoid line ups. But overall this restaurant is a great option.

My husband and I ate here three times in our visit to Sanur and made one ice cream run just for the fun of it. The menu is large and has a good choice of vegetarian food. I had gnocci on the first night with gorgonzola, the second I messed about a bit with one of their pizzas as I love artichoke and olives. The last night I had baked gnocci. They were all excellent. The weather was extremely hot while we were there and the aid conditioned room was very welcome. The staff were friendly and on the last evening we were offered a pairing of wine and cheese, the cheese being made on the premises. Between my husband and I we tried all six on the day and you will not be disappointed.
With regards to the icecream which is also made on the premises, there is always a queue outside and for a very good reason. The italian cherry is to die for, and I must say that whatever flavour you can think of it will be there. I would highly recommend giving this place a try. Thanks for the memories guys.

We watched lots of tables that arrived after us get their food and waited over an hour and a half for pizza in a stupidly hot restaurant with weak fans. Trying not to pass out we ordered drinks. The drinks took about half an hour each round as the poor girl (meaning one) at the bar made drinks for the entire overcrowded restaurant.
Foodwise, The salmon ravioli was beautiful. The pizza was average considering the restaurants award rate. They were very unevenly spread as two of our pizzas had the entire topping for the pizza on one slice (I'm not overeggagerating..). I also suggest if you order anything with capers. Expect to mostly have capers. The pepperoni, I was told was beautiful but mine was absolutely drowned in capers so I wouldn't know. The dough was lovely though.

Thanks for your time with us. Last night we had four girls at the bar while normally we do have three but understand it was a very busy night with guests arriving from anywhere around the island. GBU and Happy New Year

We have dined here at least 4 times already during our 23 night stay and will surely return for a couple more dinners before we leave. It is very popular so I would recommend you book a time if you have your heart set on dining on a particular evening. Everything is homemade including the breadsticks they bring while you enjoy your first beverage. Pastas are homemade. The pizza crust is like you find in Italy. The ice cream counter has a line up every evening as the gelato is also homemade and I have yet to taste a flavor I don’t like.

It was the crowds that drew us to this place and, having eaten there, I can see why it gets so busy. It has an astonishing array of innovative ice creams and the ones we tried a delicious.
It isn’t expensive either. For about 1 pound I got two tasty types – salted caramel and wild berry cheesecake. Both are delicious and a decent size portion.
You can eat in the garden as well if you want at no extra cost. The service is lovely.

If you are in Bali you must have dinner at Massimo's Italian Restaurant in Sanur. It was so good we went back numerous times during our visit. Massimo is the Chef and he is from Italy and the food is as good as if you were in Italy. The menu is extensive and during our numerous visits we had Minestrone Soup, Lentil Soup, Massimo Salad, home made pastas Carbonara and Bolognese styles, Australian Fillet as well as the best Gelato we have ever had. And the best is that it is very inexpensive and affordable. Make sure you make reservations because he has been there since 1996 and it is very popular and in demand for locals as well as tourists.

This restaurant was so good and a nice change from the Indonesian cuisine. They have a whole menu for those with a gluten allergy. The gluten free pasta is really good and the service was very attentive about the gluten allergy!! Gelato was amazing as well. Must go while in Sanur

Visiting Sanur for the day, we discovered Massimo ice cream almost randomly and tried it, seeing that there were a big amount of people in front of the shop, we were quite intrigued. We really did the best choice by choosing to stop here. It was really the best ice-creams we’ve ever tested, so tasty and so many delicious flavors (and very cheap!).
As a result, we came back to Sanur the day after just for these ice-creams... We were totally fans of it.
A piece of advice: if you go to Sanur, run to this place and order the Bueno flavor, you’ll not be disappointed, I assure you.

We had a pretty disappointing dinner service last night, waited for someone to seat us in a very very hot restaurant with no air conditioning!!!
The free bread balls were delicious...yum!
We unfortunately waited over an hour for our mains and to top it off I was served hot Bintang.
Couldn’t get an answer from anyone on how long the food would be, or to get more drinks!
There was a free magic show and a sort of cabaret show on, so we were thinking a lot of the staff were on stage, hence the delay maybe.
The food was very nice and couldn’t be faulted, however the service was very poor and let the good food down!
Plenty of other places in Sanur with great food and equally as good service.

Sad you did not appreciate our free show as it was announced from myself this happen once a year on the 6th of January as Italian Traditions. I like to keep tradition alive and on stage performing was my team that trained very hard just for an applause.
Thanks for your time. Happy New Year

If you're a gelato lovers, then you should have a visit to Massimo. Located around Sanur beach area, which perfect to accompany on sunny days.
Never tried the italiano cuisine resto, but neved missed to have their gelato anytime I crave for some.
Always go for a baby cup, contains of max 2 flavors (costs 20k only, with legit portion also) which is enough for me, even for share 2 persons.
So manu flavors available, my favorite ones are baileys (which I think discontinued already), cremoso italiano, speculoos, etc.
The taste is really nice I swear. Servers are friendly.
It's better to take away, unless you want to dine in.
Will have another visit, definitely.

We tried to go to Massimo and eat in however it was heavily booked out so we left disappointed but decided the next night to order their take away. the food was amazing. we had the lasagna and the fettuccine with prosciutto and mushrooms. the meal also came with salad, bread and decent helpings of parmesan. It was so delicious the best italian I have had in a long time. Next time we go I will book far in advance to eat in....can't wait

Delicious pasta and pizza served in airy surroundings followed up by scrumptious ice cream ☺️
Service is attentive, friendly and welcoming. Fresh food takes a while to be prepared and is worth the wait.
We enjoyed a carbonara and quatro formaggie penne which were both excellent. The complimentary dough balls and breadsticks are a lovely touch and quite delicious.
The ice cream afterwards was, as always, superb.
Consistency at decent prices can be a problem in Bali, Massimo continues to meet and exceed expectations after many years of service.

Big restaurant but would suggest booking first as it is very busy and we were lucky to get a table.
Good service, very nice Italian food, all the normal fare plus lots of specialities from the region where Massimo grew up in Italy.
Everything was priced really well.
Make sure you save enough room for desserts as Massimos ice cream is delicious, which you most likely note by the giant line of people outside the premises queuing up for the home made gelato.

We go to Massimos for dinner at least two or three times during every stay in Bali. (Not including the regular ice cream stops when we walk past!) The food and service are always superb. It is our favourite restaurant in Sanur.
This trip was no exception. We had two great meals at Massimos during our recent holiday. The agnolotti, the gnocchi and scallopini pizziaola were all delicious, The pizza as always was beautiful. And the ice cream... well what can we say! The wine list is extensive and even some of the imported wines are very reasonably priced by Bali standards.
I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone either visiting or staying in Sanur.
