For over four decades we have welcomed visitors and friends from around the world to these hanging gardens of Kuta, offering them fine dining and calming respite from the ever-increasing hustle and bustle beyond our walls. Our current menu includes several house favourites that remain as popular today as when we introduced them in 1973.

A little gem in the middle of Poppies Lane Kuta.

Its the little things that make a restuarant in Kuta stand out. You are sat outside at Poppies so they give you insect repellent when you sit down. The food is fresh, the tomato soup starter was delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. The menu choice is great. The prices are good. Would definitely visit again

A Bali Classic

I have been a patron of Poppies since 1981, when we discovered this jewel of an establishment, tucked away in a lane behind the iconic Made's Warung and Jalan Pantai Kuta. Right from then it has remained a respite from the noise, heat and humidity of this island. You can drop in for a coffee, or you can have lunch or dinner. The restaurant is set in a fantasy atrium garden where each detail is an exquisite example of the Balinese aesthetic. There are fountains and ponds. There are hanging gardens, ferns and statues that create precincts that afford privacy so that you could get to feel that this was your personal palace. I enjoy having Reistaffel, even though this is not traditional Balinese cuisine, but rather a remnant of the Dutch colonial occupation. It looks dramatically stunning, so I enjoy the visual experience as much as anything. The menu offers a full selection of the best of traditional Balinese Tourist cuisine. If I didnt have Reistaffel, then I would have ordered Chicken Satay another favourite. These days there is fairly heavy motor bike traffic in Poppies Lane which never seems to come to grief, but could be problematic with young children. It is always a good idea to book for dinner. The toilets are always clean and solubrious.

Reading paragraph by paragraph I came to the last one, still looking for the reason for the missing bubble, but not finding it. I guess it was the motorbikes, which really are beyond anyone at Poppies' control! Thanks for a lovely review.

Breakfast at Poppies is the best

We have eaten breakfast at Poppies every day this week - delicious mix of Balinese and western foods - fantastic bali coffee, banana pancakes with honey and lime. Full English breakfast with wholemeal toast and local honey and marmalade. The most beautiful, peaceful garden setting and the friendliest staff in Kuta.

Ok, but not as good as Poppies in Koh Samui

I was a little disappointed by Poppies. I’ve been a few times to Poppies in Koh Samui so I was expecting something similar but it was nothing like its Thai counterpart. The service was inattentive, we’d wait ages until we were able to attract attention. It took forever for the food to arrive. We had the rijsttafel but I’ve tasted better in other restaurants in Bali. We also had the garlic prawns starter, 4 small prawns for 90,000 IDR. Overall it was disappointing when you know how good the Poppies experience usually is.

Paradise of Poppies 1..

Had tea here and even thou we bioked did not need to. Would certainly book during peak times. Staff freindly from the minute you walk thru the doirs from the frantic pace of poppies 1 to a green paradise . The table are set up better than some 5 star places in melbourne and even complimentary soffitel spray. There is a good sized menu to choose and considering very good prices plus tax. The meal was very good, this is a well worth place to visit for a meal.

Wonderful evening family birthday

It was a wonderful, al fresco birthday dinner. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive and warm. The walk to the place in the inner streets of was experience. My family loved the place.

Lovely garden setting!

If you want to try a Rijstaffel or eat real Indonesian food (although they also offer European dishes) then this is the place to come! The smiling staff are efficient and helpful and the setting is stunning! You can’t beat eating under the stars. Make sure you also try the pina colada, served in a freshly carved coconut gargoyle.

Ambience is beautiful as always...

Ambience is beautiful as always... looking forward to a romantic dinner but sadly it was all over in a matter of minutes.. Pasta came out not even 5 minutes after being ordered, and portion was very small.. we were disappointed.

Are you implying that we have instant pasta on demand? Even a tin of Heinz would take longer than 4 minutes to heat up. This is utterly absurd and totally lacks any credibility - all our pasta dishes are made to order.

Simply Superb Wonderful food great atmosphere all rapped up with beautiful service. Menu has a great variety of traditional and western cuisine. Prices are great allowing for that Bali experience you might expect.

Wonderful meal to end the trip

It's our first time here and we are definitely giving this restaurant a positive review as we are waiting to have our dessert. We came here with our little boy and he was tired from swimming the entire day. The kind gentleman Mr Manuna that serves us offered to serve my boy dinner without us asking as the ricetable menu we have ordered will take 20-25mins to prepare. The food is nothing short of being wonderful and tasty. Every dish in the ricetable menu is tastefully done and there is no one dish which I think is not worth mentioning. The beef rendang has a rich coconut taste and sates are excellent! Coming from a neighbouring country, these food are common dishes back home and I must say they have done very well! The sticky rice dessert (pulut hitam) to end the meal is also rich in taste and we definitely love it. Do come here and have a meal, if not two. You won't regret it. Their service and food deserve a thumbs up!

We were staying at Poppies and their restaurant is just across the lane. We had many breakfast and dinner here many times. Wonderful food, large menu, great ambience, excellent friendly staff, beautiful gardens and ponds.... I highly recommend!

We went for dinner and we liked the garden look of the restaurant, but we thought the food should have been better. The meat on skewer was so tough and dry.
