About
Located in tranquil Jimbaran, Cuca offers a cutting-edge concept of globally inspired, locally sourced tapas, cocktails and desserts. Michelin-trained Chef Kevin Cherkas and his Spanish entrepreneur partner, Virginia Entizne, not only realized a life-time dream opening Cuca in Bali in 2013, but also successfully developed a radically different, casual meets fine-dining experience serving inventive comfort food meant for sharing and bursting with flavour. With its hard-earned solid reputation, Cuca is indeed one of South-east Asia’s most celebrated foodie destinations, coming highly recommended by, among many others, the Michelin Travel Guide and being awarded Trip Advisor Hall of Fame Winner.

This a really special place with minimalistic yet inquisite interior which complements novelty and tastyness of small dishes and makes them a true culinary experience. Me and my wife were also impressed by the chef who did not only managed the kitchen and tasted a few deliveries, but also engaged with every guest to share a small talk and ensure everyone felt welcomed. Highly recommended!

We arrived at 6pm and had finished by 7.15, but it worked well for us. Some might like the courses bought a little more slowly. Enjoyed all the tapas style dishes, from the little amuse bouche which melted into the traditional betutu spice flavour in your mouth, to the choc mint and caramel apple desserts. Highlight was the smoked butterfish. Presentation was creative, lots of texture in the dishes. Wine prices were Bali high so had a glass of locally bottled wine with the dinner. Would go back.

The food here are quite interesting and unique. Each has a great presentation (and quite a price). We tried a lot of food there as they suggested 3 menus for each person. We ordered 5 main courses with 2 dessert. Bear in mind, all main courses here are tapas so portion is very small. We tried the scallop ($3.2/portion/2 scallops), tuna tartare, octopus, fried chicken, and the most expensive of all was the beef bone marrow ($20/portion) For food, I recommend to try the tuna tartare. Only that one worth the price for me. The fried chicken was the least worth, it's basically regular fried chicken with bit of spices. The beef bone marrow was okay, I like the gluten rice but the beef was quite dry. For dessert, we tried the caramel apple crumble with black pepper ice cream and the Tea-ramisu. As someone who doesn't like coffee, I love the tearamisu and would be back just for this. The price is quite high but for this one, I definitely recommend you to try. The service is also top notch. The place itself is nice to hang around.

Well I stayed across the street so I decided to give this place a shot. Ordered four tapas/ entrees and was far from full. Servings VERY small and some of the the food dishes looked better than they tasted. I believe four items and a beer cost me 375,000 which is allot of money for so little food in Indonesia . Had a soft Bali taco very small perhaps 20 grams and sort of tasty but nothing special I would have added some hoisin sauce to it. Meal started with a cotton candy turmeric salt concoction I would have spit it out but the waiter was hovering close by. I dont like the taste of turmeric .Turkish meatballs were tasty but I dont like being surprised by seeds in my food. Ceviche would have been tastier if not served with pumpkin seeds and that pretentious watermelon ice!!! All in all I would NOT eat there again! Not expensive by Los Angeles standards by very pricey by Indonesian standards!! On the bright side the kitchen is spotless and the owner is an excellent schmoozer and very charming and colorful.

It is a massive restaurant and I can’t really say it is pretty since we sat in the indoor patio area since there was a massive private kids party in the main dining room. At this price level I think you are paying a lot for the ambiance so I would recommend you sit as close to the open window kitchen if possible. We ordered six dishes between the two of us and really liked two, two was ok, and two was entirely forgettable or bad. One thing we noticed though is that all the dishes, it felt like they were saving on the ingredients. The meat and potato entree was tasty and unique but there was hardly any meat. Soft shell crab was perhaps the thinnest I ever seen and nearly undetectable in taste. Same with scallop, octopus and whatever might be a higher ticket ingredient. Paella was very good but there is more seafood in a 40,000 idr nasi goreng elsewhere. Anyways I think maybe we just got unlucky since it is the low season but It was a big letdown given the good reviews.

I don’t normally write reviews and hate to be a negative person but it is so hard to believe anyone could enjoy this food. After reading the the amazing reviews and the restaurants that the chef had worked( I don’t know how long he worked at these restaurants but it must of been days or weeks as a stagier . The overwhelming thing I felt is if he actually sat down and eat this menu , we had the chefs tasting menu . There is no way he would be serving this. Everything lacked balance , wasn’t seasoned nicely and generally was borderline un edible. Amuse was candy floss with what tasted like stock cube over top. Terrible Corn was next cheese tasted horrible Followed by pork buns it was ok but u could easily make better at home from things bought at the supermarket Smoked fish with beetroot yoghurt espuma and parley crumbs . The fish was seriously over smoked it tasted like eating a ash tray very bad Pumpkin was just insipid luke warm unseasoned roast pumpkin with a disgusting bitter granola with yoghurt again why u would feel the need to repeat the same ingredient ie. yoghurt in consecutive dishes makes no sense to me . Horrible dish Next was octopus which was ok but definitely not good it came with unseasoned fried cauliflower, apple slices, green chilli gazpacho Fried soft shell crab was ok We then had a squid ink risotto which was the best dish of the night but average at best . It was a good concept all be it a old one maybe if it was executed to its full potential it could have been a very good dish Dessert Coconut passionfruit and mango are all my favourite ingredients so I had high hopes for this dish unfortunately they were not met the dish lacked sweetness and the textures were not enjoyable finally a chocolate and mint to finish to be fair I’m not a fan of mint in desserts so I’m not a good judge for this dish but I found the chocolate mousse overly bitter and not a balanced dish Finally we were given a digestive drink to finish which tasted like toilet cleaner it was overly infused with rosemary and left a bad taste in mouth for some time to come . In my opinion the only reason the chef hasn’t been fired is because he owns the restaurant. There is no way this restaurant would be in business more then a couple of months if it was in Sydney . I assume they continue to operate off constant flow of tourists again I have no idea where those 5 star reviews are coming from

Me and my husband read about this place and went there with no particular expectations and loved every minute of our stay. The staff was warm and friendly, the food was absolutely excellent and we loved sitting so we could se the action in the kitchen and getting the dishes presented by the one who made them. Would love to go back one day.

Despite the quality of the food having been fantastic, this restaurant will only get a fail evaluation due to the portion sizes, lack of bread, basic hygiene requirements and no value for money. I am from the restaurant industry, travel a lot in Asia, but this was one of the worst dining experiences in my life. After 2 Million Rupiah for 6 starters, 2 beers and a bottle of basic wine we decided to leave hungry and went to a nice restaurant for a proper dinner. I have eaten tapas-dinners in Spain and many other locations and I am not a big eater, but the portion sizes in la Cuca were not appropriate. We asked for bread, the answer was no. Sorry, but when the ants invaded our plates before we had a chance to pay, it was too much. A simple sticky tape around the four legs of the table would have solved the problem. Totally disgusting, see picture.

We went there to enjoy some dinner after checking recommendations. It is a very good experience, the food tastes good too but we found it to be a bit too expensive for the area. Although service is really first class experience! You come here to enjoy the experience!

My girlfriend and I went for dinner and both selected the chef course (7 tapas and 2 dessert). One of the dishes was truly exceptional and one of the desserts was an absolute star. All of the rest of the food was decent~good with small deviations from excellence (slightly over cooked, monotone flavor etc). The ambience and service were probably the best wr experienced in the whole trip here in Bali. The servers were attentive without being over bearing and the architecture of the restaurant is charming.

This review is written by a vegan. Although the food was interesting, it was not particularly incredible. I’ve had better in Bali. , what drives my terrible review is the overall awful experience we had. The staff was incredibly unhelpful and un accommodating. What’s worse is it’s not the fault of the staff who are just doing their jobs, but rather the management directive to be “hoity toity” because they’re a Michelin restaurant. The restaurant says nothing about being kid friendly. However as vegan the child options were incredibly limited, and we were told that the kids could just “eat the sushi” requests to even make a simple fried rice for the kids were met with the answer of “ we don’t make fried rice”. As such our kids had to go home hungry and unfed, Furthermore the vegetarian menu includes items that contain fish and egg, something not clearly stated. And when we did order something vegan they brought the non vegan version. All in all a negative experience. 0/10 would not reccomend

Dear Sharan Balani, Thank you for your review and giving us this opportunity to highlight the experience we provide for Vegans and Kids in Cuca. First of all, you are absolutely correct…we do not have many specific options available just for vegan children and since we had you dining in Cuca we have been working hard to begin developing some good vegan options for the little ones. To be honest, in all the years we have been open, we have not had any enquiries about Kid’s vegan food as they usually order from our regular Vegan menu so you definitely got us there. We do however provide an exceptional overall experience for kids as we not only have a kids’ menu with classic kid’s dishes all homemade with the best local ingredients but also pamper them with a mini chef apron, colouring papers and crayons, access to a playground in our beautiful garden, cotton candy, and when leaving the chef personally gives them a special homemade chocolate and a playful balloon. All this makes Cuca a top choice for families with kids making up more than half of our guests. For anyone else with food restrictions such as Lactose, Gluten, Peanut, Seafood or food preferences such as Vegan, Vegetarian or Pescatarian, not only do we have food available…we have a special menu highlighting the dishes they can consume as well as an entire customized Chef Tasting Menu. Our vegetarian options on that menu are fully vegetarian so they of course do not include fish (as strangely you mention in your review) and our Vegan options are strictly Vegan so they of course do not contain egg. In regards to your comment about our team explaining that they could not make fried rice, you are correct. Our kitchen team is not allowed to cook anything they have not been trained for as we are extremely careful with the quality standards we provide. Our guests come from everywhere in the world and if we allowed customers to request dishes outside our menu we would be incapable to provide the extraordinary culinary experience we are famous for and instead we would be making average fried rice, tasteless pasta and over cooked pizza. This has nothing to do with having any Michelin star because actually Michelin stars are not available in Indonesia so we cannot possibly have one although our Chef spent his career cooking throughout many Michelin starred restaurants. The decision of getting our team only cooking what they are trained to cook is the key to our success over the last 9 years that we have been in business. Customers come to Cuca to enjoy our great food and our attentive service and we are sorry you didn’t but we promise you that we will continue keeping our standards high while learning from your feedback and getting better at vegan dishes tailor-made for kids. It is our philosophy to keep on improving and converting upsetting reviews like yours into tools to make us better, so thank you.

First time guest on Saturday, but we came back on Sunday, so that makes twice. And this won't be the last time. The Sunday brunch, this time with Thai dishes and set in a Thait atmospher was superb! Exacly nothing to complain about. Super friendly and helpful staff, 14!!!! different dishes combined in one lazy Sunday brunch. The Saturday business lunch/ meeting was just as perfect! As extra we got fresh mothwatering oysters, locally (east Java) harvested. Unexpected and absolutely delicious. We will be back guys! Thanks!

One of my favorite restaurants in Asia and We always visit each time we are in Bali. The food - taste, choice of ingredients, texture and presentation - are done to perfection. It also has an open kitchen concept which bodes for an interesting dining experience (ask for the tables in front of the kitchen). Service fabulous as always with the staff being super attentive, friendly and accommodating to requests. At our recent visit the chef/owner even came by to say hi and for a nice chat! A must visit when you are in Bali

We visited this place in 2017 for the first time for dinner and now again for lunch during our stopover from Melbourne on the way home. We had a seven hour layover and for me there was only one place to go to and that was Cuca and hoping that it was still as good as then (see my review of early 2017) and to see that the menu had changed. Both questions can be answered by a big YES. Yes, the quality is still as good as then and the creativity has not slowed down. Without doubt we asked for the 9 course Chef’s Tasting Meal and what a wonderful new dishes they presented. Again it was finger-licking good, especially the dishes “Ceviche”, “Ricotta Gnocchi” and “Caramel Apple”.
