When we told our driver for the day that we were looking for authentic Ladakhi food, he pointed us to Alchi Kitchen. Everything about this place was authentic: its location on the first floor of a traditional house virtually next to the Alchi monastery, the fact that all the cooks were women, and, most of all, the fact that they deliberately choose a small menu and traditional menu. Ladakh sat on the silk route, and its customs and people are a mix of Tibetan and Central Asian. In keeping with this, the stars of the menu are the khambir, a stuffed bread in the Central Asian style, and the celebratory chutagi, a farfalle shaped ravioli. But the local momo and the thukpa are also highly recommended (especially for the deep taste of the broth of the thukpa). If you are still game for more, consider the apricot juice, or the thick Ladakhi tea made with apricot nuts. And if it is celebrity that you want, remember that the owner has been a national award winner and a Vogue person of the year.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Alchi monastery and temples. The choices are great. We had the stuffed Khambatta, thukpa and momos. All of these tasted very good. The place is run by a group of women who are cooking the dishes fresh right in front of you. Be sure to book a table well before you go - there is always a big queue for people who are waiting to get in. Superb food.

We visited Alchi Monastary on our way to Leh from Kargil. Our driver informed beforehand to make the booking at Alchi's Kitchen as there is always a waiting in the restaurant. We reached at 1.30 pm and got the space instatntly. The restaurant has a homely ambience, a nice balcony with a sit-out and the kitchen managed by all women staff. Ms Nilza helped us to select from all Ladakhi cuisine and we all relished the food including kids. The Khambir bread was super-delicious and even the Thupka, Aprcot juice and Pasta were very tasty. A must visit for enjoying the Ladakhi food and nice atmosphere.

Perfect place to go to enjoy the authentic cuisines. We made the booking and completely let the owner/ chef decide the menu for our lunch. She was extremely sweet to make plenty of dishes, which were really delicious! Dont miss the desserts!!

No management, concept of flavour and taste is absent. Placed order and forget about it as it will not come only, even after all this if u manage to self service food it will taste of excessive salt only. They must have bought the good reviews as i personally saw every customer going through our experience. Finally after an hour+ waiting v went to next resturant which was good.

Stopped for lunch enroute Leh. A little in from main road. Quaint Village and restaurant set in the owners home. We had booked the whole place. Had thupka, momos, pasta ,pulav etc. Food was nice but you have to be patient. It's typical local fare so a bit spicy. The home setting etc is very nice and you get a feel of their culture.

Pleasant restaurant, good, homemade food. The room is pretty, we feel attention and research. However, a little disappointment because the order taking and the arrival of the dishes were not smooth. Better to book.

We went to this place as we heard good reviews from the taxi driver! So i assume one of those places that are promoted by taxi drivers coz they probably get some commission! Post my horrible experience, i also checked their rating online. Across various websites, they have some 500 respondents and a rating of 4.5. Now half of this possibly came from taxi drivers but this all came to be after leaving the restaurant without getting what i ordered! Place has unreasonably long waiting time; its not equipped to handle more than 15 customers! All soups and gravies taste alike and are high on salt. Menu is attractive to all those looking for local food but all thukpas, soups, wheat pastas taste the same! Walnut chutney is full of walnut shells. They have no idea what people have ordered though they capture your order on pink slips. Inspite of that they forget who has ordered what! The only thing I got to eat was what was ordered by someone else which they identify as per their order slip. Prices are steep. Menu has 2 kinds of coffees.. espresso and black coffee and both ate black coffees 😂. 5 ladies cook your food in an open kitchen! Well, the best live example of too many cooks... Better avoided!!

The food served was really tasty. The fresh apples plucked from the orchard and mixed in the salad was really sweet and crunchy. The flavours of the local Tibetan cuisine came through very distinctly

This restaurant is one of the popular ones at Leh , just next to the Alchi Monastry. We stopped by for lunch .The award winning owner Chef Nilza, is very warm and hospitable . She came to check if everything was fine and we needed anything . They have a limited yet unique menu. All women Staff. Rustic interiors with an open kitchen . Indoor and Outdoor Seating . We sat on the terrace , we tried: Chutagi -Ladaki Pasta with mutton- very good . Khambir ( Local Multidough bread stuffed with cheese and sausages )-Excellent. This was the star dish for me! Veg Pulao- Very good. Kahwa with almond slivers and saffron-excellent . The place was packed for lunch, must visit if you want to try authentic Ladaki food.
