Make a reservation at Ajiacos y Mondongos or be prepared to wait a while at the bar for a table. The former gives you an opportunity to people-watch and to check out the ambience.
This establishment has been open since 1991 and only serves lunch from about 11:00 to 15:00. The three menu options are (1) ajiacos – a traditional dish from Bogota with chicken and three types of potatoes – (2) beans – with or without meat – and (3) mondongo – intestine soup that seems to be a “love it or hate it” choice.
If you want traditional Colombian food, served in that looks like an old villa, this is the place to go.

A must visit while in Medellin. Hands down the BEST ajiaco I have ever tasted. Not fancy, located off the main drag but totally worth the visit,

You will probably be the only gringo in this very popular local restaurant. Offering three soup type meals, Ajiaco, mondongo or frijoles, each option is filling and flavorful. Each of these offerings has some great sides dishes to add to your soup, avacado, rice, cilantro, plantanos, and other items. A great spot for a different kind of lunch.

Came with the parents and had the half portion of all 3 soups. My fav was the cazuela de frijoles. The ajiaco was ok but I've had better in Bogota. The mondongo was ok but not a fan of tripe...Good service...but if you take the lemonade they offer you, it's extra.

This place was recommended to me & my boyfriend by a local. There are 3 items on the menu & so far we have only tried the ajiacos. Their ajiacos is like a Colombian version of chicken soup, and it is delicious & comforting; as if someone's grandma cooked it for us. The restaurant has a local, unpretentious feel about it which I really enjoyed. The service is friendly & the food comes out quickly. We plan to go back to try the other items on the menu soon!

I ate here on my yearly trip to Medellin and had a fantastic meal... Once again. What I love about this place is the consistency of its great food. No wonder why famous people come and eat here all the time. This time I had the Ajiaco and it was as delicious as always. TIP: order extra chicharron, the way they cook it here makes it addictive!

This food is really amazing. You need to try the "cazuela de fríjoles" a full plate of beans with pork skin, just heaven. But beware that it doesn't look big but its a lot!

Best Ajiaco (soup) I have ever tasted. Must eat here. I went for lunch and will definitely be back. Only 3 items on the menu. No frills, No thrills, but food it absolutely delicious. My dad had the Mondongo (tripe) and he loved it. You have to eat here if you visit Medellin.

Este lugar es lo que yo llamaría un hueco en la pared, de entrada es una casita antigua habilitada para el disfrute de la más deliciosa comida colombiana. Comida exquisita y una atención muy personal! This place is what I will call a hole in the wall, it looks like an old house that has been arranged to serve the most delicious Colombian food. Not only is the food exquisite, but the service is very personal.
Mi favorita como no, la cazuela de frijoles, que tiene de todo, pero en justa medida. El ajiaco es excelente también. Cada plato es servido con orgullo y detalle, un deleite al paladar y a los ojos. My favorite meal is la cazuela de frijoles, a "bean soup" with a bunch of different toppings yet each on the perfect measure. The ajiaco is also excellent. Each plate is served with pride and detail, a delight for the taste and the eyes.

This was the best lunch I had in Medellin. If you are looking for a traditional place with local flavors, this is your place. It has been visited by many celebrities and artists, and you can find their signatures and photographs in the walls. Excellent services and very good prices
