After reading the reviews, I went just to check the place. The manager on duty was very helpful...showing the array of food on offer. Decided to try it....was not disappointed. One of the best Shangri-la places to eat for a buffet and I have ate...at many. Manager was hard working in making sure all was good. Good service from other staff. Maybe things have changed for the better. Would not hesitate in returning!!More

The food at iCafe at ShangriLa Dalian is overall poor. The best thing is pizza or noodles. The Chinese food is not good. The staff is too relaxed. The barbecue is ok.. and hotpot is fine (when they have it), but there are much better...options just across the street. Horrible wine selection. Walk a block or two and you’ll find MUCH better options.More

I was staying at the Shangri La and breakfast was included. Good spread though maybe not as extensive as many others in the chain. As a westerner I could still find a decent breakfast. Free wifi for all. Nice ambiance.

Honestly, I've been to so many restaurant buffets in Dalian and XiangGe LiLa Buffet is so average. If you want a good buffet, go to the Hilton that just opened two years ago. This Buffet is extremely overpriced and it's so average because you could...get really amazing and delicious food outside.More

Not been to buffet for a while and will be sometime before I return, questionable International buffet, food quality not good. This restaurant would have been so busy a few years ago, now you can sit where you want. I doubt it would have made...any profit the Saturday night we went since there were never more than a dozen people in restaurant. If you stay long enough you get to eat with hotel staff who started sitting down an hour before restaurant closed. A wonderful 3 star experience.More

Great selection and great tasting food. The buffet offers a selection of Western and Asian food from mild to spicy, so most palettes can be satisfied.

We have been to the restaurant at the Shangri La a few times in our quest for a decent brunch in Dalian. Very good buffet brunch with a range of both Western and Asian food. We've always found the staff friendly and helpful, and most...speak good English, although it helps if you speak some Chinese. They will make you a fresh juice with any combination you request, they have espresso coffee (you have to request it), lots of fresh fruit, pastries, and they'll make eggs any style. I'm vegetarian and gluten free, and I always find enough to eat here. It is quite expensive if you're paying full price (around 180RMB per person), but it's the best hotel buffet breakfast that we've found in two years living in Dalian. Brunch finishes at 10:30am.More

Food was good but portions were child-sized. Went home hungry. Expected the staff to have better english, too. "Washroom" was out of there vocabulary.

Breakfast at main restaurant was the usual extensive selection but have had better at other Shangri-La hotels. Lunch was a good selection of foods. The main Chinese restaurant in hotel was average & didn't appear to show-case enough of the local Dalian seafood selection compared...to other restaurants in the city, possibly trying to appeal to broader market.More

I first ate at the Shangri-La in 2012, and had the international buffet. It was fantastic. The highlight of the international buffet--the salmon from the sushi bar. 2013 was the first time that I had food from the Chinese restaurant. It was also fantastic, and...the Peking duck is incredible. The Director of Food and Beverage is a great guy from Malaysia, and seems happy to help out the guests if he is around.More

As a Diamond Shangri-La member I expect those priviledges to be extended to me automatically. I had to remind them about fruit in my room, my toiletries. They also call with alarming regularity to your room, i.e. within 10 minutes of receiving room service they...want to know if they can come pick up your tray.. I found this very irritating, and asked them to stop doing it - I had my DND button on. On checkout they asked me if I had snacks from the mini-bar.. what mini-bar? The drinks? Apparently after staying there 14 nights nobody had filled up my snacks or told me my drinks were free. That said, the doormen are always very cheerful and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very good in comparison to say the Intercon in Dalian and also included in your rate - at the Intercon it's extra. Internet is reliable and also included in the rate.More

Snagri_la has great options for eating and drinking. The basement night-club is good but the food in there is limited and nowhere near the standard of the rest of the hotel. The lobby bar and the I-Cafe are excellent and the Shang Palace Chinese restaurant...is superb. I have not eaten in the Japanese restaurant but I am told that it is also excellent.More

Before even staying in a specific Shangri-la, I always expect a five-star experience. This hotel did not disappoint me. Our room was large and beautifully appointed. We had a view (between buildings) of the Dalian port area. The service is impeccable both with the lobby...and restaurant personnel and the maid service. Breakfast included a huge buffet of every possible food and juice choice, covering many cultures. Their pastry area was wonderful, and they had chefs at several stations preparing various eggs, noodles, fried wontons, etc. The location of the hotel is not far from Dalian's Zhongshan Square passing many designer stores during the walk. Taxis are fairly cheap in Dalian, so most tourist or business destinations are an inexpensive ride away. While Shangri-la Hotels are seldom inexpensive, this is a great home-base for international travelers with most of the staff having very good English skills. When we visited there were also American student interns working at the hotel, and it was very interesting to discuss their adventures during their months in Dalian.More

I'm sure the hotel will be great after June 2011, but right now it's not up to par. Customers have to walk through the smoking section of the lobby to get to the guest elevators. They've also designated a lousy room for check in. That's...crowded and noisy.More
