Having read the reviews from other travellers about this restaurant, I determined to try it, especially as I had enjoyed their claimed signature dish (Amok) in another restaurant in Phnom Penh a few days before. However, this whole visit proved to be a massive disappointment....First off, after hurrying me to a seat on arrival, I was then left to wait to place my order, eventually signalling to the chef lounging in the kitchen doorway rat it would be good to be served. He responded immediately by informing the waiter who the scurried over from his position at the front of the restaurant. Service was speedy and efficient after that.
In fact, as far as the Fish Amok was concerned, too speedy. The texture and flavours were nowhere near as good as that eaten in Phnom Penh. And, yet, this is supposed not only to be a local speciality, but the speciality of the house! It arrived within five or so minutes of placing the order, and so I am convinced that it had either been prepared earlier in the day and reheated, or had been defrosted from frozen. Either way, it was most unsatisfactory. Its texture was congealed and its flavours tired, with the usual richness of the coconut milk barely detectable. Unlike the one eaten in the capital, where the subtle intermix of flavours and the sauce rich in coconut milk was a real pleasure to eat, this was very poor by comparison. If I had not been in a hurry, I would have complained. As it was, nobody asked me my opinion on the food.More
