The title refers to both the pub and its owner. This is a vile place. Mostly empty, except for intoxicated ex-pats itching for a fight. The food is gross, especailly the Sunday Roast. Cold gravy on super-tough scraps of beef, served with rolls as hard...as rocks.
Some drunken fool started trouble with my husband on his way back from the loo and only stopped when he realized my husband was not alone. More or less the entire time, the gray haired owner was shouting at the top of his lungs. All the customers seemed to be over-aged football hooligans, Perfectly dreadful.More
Eating fish and chips with my husband we both witnessed what in England would have had the owner of the pub arrested and his bar shut down. The totally sloshed owner conspired with other drunken patrons to surprise a lone customer by sneaking up on...him and choking him half to death.
There were three that came up behind him and took turns choking him. He passed out and I really thought he was dead. This guy never raised his voice, never put a hand on anyone. They carried him out unconscious and kicked him until he woke up. Then the owner screamed in his face that he was lucky to be alive. After the bloke walked away they all laughed and compared choke holds! I said to my husband: "We have to call the police!:" He shook his head no and said, "Were in Cambodia love. Let's just make no eye contact, get the bill and get out." That's just what we did. (The fish and chips were below average, btw,)
Here is the part that I cannot get out of my head: Once the bloke collapsed on the floor unconscious, they lifted him up and carried him out into the road in a flash. Anyone who saw this, as did my husband and I, would see that this is something that this gang of thugs does on a regular basis. It was obviously not a one time thing, as the whole thing was so automatic.
No one in his or her right mind should walk into this place. First out of concern for their personal safety. Second, because the idea of handing hard earned money over to hooligans like the owner of this pub should turn your stomach. Plenty of great pubs in Siem Reap, which is still one of the coolest places in SE Asia. Give this violent place a pass.More
As soon as I walked in with my wife I was harassed by a bar girl who sat down right next to me and would not leave me alone. Then we met the owner who was blasted -- around 4. Had the wrong drinks brought...to us. The owner was so drunk he could barely stand. And then it looked like a fight was gonna break out because of a football game. We left as soon as we could. We won't be back. Ever.More
Best Sunday roast in SR. Cambodian beef can be a little tough so I went for the chicken. My partner had the beef. I so wished I had too. My chicken was good but oh my goodness the beef was out of this world! I'm...coming back in 2 weeks and can't wait to see you on the first Sunday I'm back. Keep up the good work.More
We arrived right outside here after a crowd of 6 of us arrived from Thailand. Straight away wer knew it was a great atmosphere after receiving a great welcome. Wer was only intending to stay for one before getting off to find a place to...stay. We ended up staying best part of the afternoon. Got chatting to Alan who was the previous owner. Overall a very friendly welcoming place. Wer paid a few visits during our visit to Seam Reap.More
