Omg- best grilled steak and local cheese rice. Unbelievably delicious. Gray wine selection too. Try local Tannat with your steak.

Definitely a 10/10 experience, the food was phenomenal. I had a tomahawk, grilled to perfection with yuca done just right! Definitely recommend.

I love El Arriero and visit the restaurant at least once every time I travel to Santa Cruz, two weeks ago I was there 3 times in one week and the place did not disappoint at all. There is a great selection of wines and...cuts of beef. I usually get the ribeye, which is served with rice, fries and yuca. Simply wonderful.More

The service was incredible although it takes the bar to get the drinks in a timely manner. We ordered skirt steak that was very good, short rib and rib eye that were so so. The sausage was very tasty. The appetizers (veal carpaccio and mix...salad were very good). The affogato and apple pie were both mediocre.More

We arrived fairly late in the evening without a reservation, after a last minute decision to walk over for dinner. We were still able to get a table even though they were very busy. We had a green salad and the provolone with tomatoes for...starters. Both were good, and I loved the melted cheese and tomato combo. We both order ribeyes, mine medium rare and hers well done, and they came with multiple sides. Mine was the best steak that I’ve had in quite sometime, and the other one that I had during my visit here didn’t even compare. I had some of the well done steak too, it was still very good, even though I consider that a sin against beef. We had the lemon pie and flan with sweetened condensed milk drizzle for dessert, and both were very good also. This visit was first class from arrival until departure, excellent service and food. You will not regret dining at this establishment.More

Seduced by Lonely Planet's warm review of El Arriero, I resolved to dine there during my two-night stay in Santa Cruz, and walked the 3 km from my hotel south of the central square to the restaurant -- the walk itself proving a fascinating sociological...experience. As a culinary experience, El Arriero left nothing to be desired: food, ambience, attentiveness were all top drawer. Not knowing whether there might be any risk of mishap to the obviously foreign pedestrian walking this route at night (as it turns out, there wasn't), I took the precaution of leaving my wallet in my hotel room and carrying with me only 230 bolivianos (some US$35), which I thought should cover the cost of my dinner. So, staring at the menu, I realized I'd have to choose carefully -- just an "ojo de bife" (ribeye steak, 142 bolivianos) and a glass of a reserva Bolivian red wine and agua con gas (60): no appetizer, no sides, no dessert. I had, unintendedly, put myself on a diet when I was intending to splurge. The steak was grilled to perfection; even the fussiest carnivore would have raved. The staff (three different waiters!) brought out side dishes--salad, fried potatoes, rice--and, when I protested that I had ordered none of them, they assured me they came with the steak. I was overwhelmed, and indeed could not eat it all. (I did, however, drink it all--don't discount the quality of Bolivian wine.) My tab came to 202 bolivianos, and I happily left all 230 I had brought with me -- just wish I could have left the guys more. One techno-glitch: I had sought to make a reservation on-line, and though I did not receive an emailed confirmation, I timed my walk to arrive there at the appointed time (7 pm). When I arrived, there was no record of a reservation. Fortunately, there were a couple empty tables, and I was welcomed warmly and immediately ushered to a table.More

Let’s say you only have enough time to go to one restaurant during your stay in Santa Cruz - El Arriero is it! I believe it’s safe to say that you get a very accurate experience of what you could imagine important family gatherings in...Santa Cruz feel, look, and taste like. The food is insane - the bread, the sides, the sauces, everything is 10/10 (the milanesas - every single one is delicious - imagine your grandma made it but 10 times better - yes, that good). The service is great - even for take out (great packaging) - you feel taken care of and that’s what I’m personally looking for in a restaurant - so if you want to feel great and eat great while enjoying your time in Santa Cruz - this is the place - hands down.More

I was in Bolivia for a couple of days for business from Panama. We were there for 3 days, and we had lunch and dinner two of those days in El Arriero. Suffice to say, we loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful,...my personal favorite was the cuadril and mojito de achachairu my collegue ate the tomahawk and raged about it. I would recommend making a reservation as it is full most days and usually have to wait for a table if you don't. At least the days we were there. However, the staff was very friendly and was able to find us a table in less than 15 minutes.More

My wife and I heard about this place through a tour guide. He had said that if we wanted the best steaks to celebrate our anniversary in Santa Cruz, that we had to have dinner at El Arriero. He was not wrong. We had fantastic...service and mind blowing food. We loved it so much we ended up going more than once during our trip. We had the Matahambre de puerco, the ribeye, colita de res, and the milanesa, and more. Everything from the bread and salad to dessert was incredible. As an added bonus, they even have yummy cocktails. Definitely recommend and will be back.More

We took a party of 8 fishermen to this restaurant for dinner before heading out to the jungle. Overall this is a decent steak house. Large menu, decent wine list, great appetizers and decent steak for the most part. Dinged it one star as I...order my NY Strip medium rare and it came out well done. Really unforgivable for a steak house.More
