I went here with a friend essentially because it was closer than another restaurant that we were considering and my friend has some mobility issues. This restaurant is a small self service Indian veg and vegan buffet. You can choose from about 25 items from...hot and cold bar. Paneer, tofu, potato, and cauliflower based dishes were available. Food was warm but not very fresh and vegetables fairly mushy. The banana pudding was good. Totally self service in terms of you get a cardboard plate, plastic silverware, napkin and go up to a weigh area to weigh and pay. When asking where to put plates when done we were referred to “the trash can is out the door to the left” which was a little strange. Ok if you couldn’t find full veg other places but generally overcooked and overpriced.More

If you have ANY food allergies, I urge you to consider a visit to this restaurant. They know ALL of the ingredients that they use in their dishes. Our group included vegan, gluten-free, soy-free restrictions. They were very kind, knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a...hot and cold buffet, with a variety of spicy foods. I had the channa masala, alu bhujla and mixed vegetables. I licked up every morsal! We also purchased several of their desserts: carrot cake, chocolate peanut butter bar, apple pie and a cookie - all of which met our requirements, and all of which were delicious. While the atmosphere is a bit run-down looking, and small - it is neat, clean and has a great energy. I truly wish I could go here once a week for dinner.More

Indian vegetarian restaurant with a cold and hot buffet. You pay based on the weight of the food you picked. The selections are excellent. The okra is outstanding. Warm service by the family owners.

If you are a vegetarian or vegan you can't go wrong here. From spicy hot to seasoned to creamy cool, everything listed on the menu will be expertly prepared. I like the Moti Vegan Spicy-Hot Kidney Beans with Mushrooms and the Pakora Spicy-Hot Spinach, Potato...and Onion Fritters and the Tangy Spinach with Basmati Rice for a complete meal.More

Nice effort to achieve a variety of Indian dishes. Reading the other reviews of this place, our expectations were high. If we were in town again looking for Indian food with vegan options, we would not return to this restaurant. It wasn’t bad food, it...was edible, but not special or worth recommending to others. I guess we’ve maybe just been spoiled by having exceptional Indian food in Houston. The place was clean, but left a lot to be desired in the way of creating a nice ambiance through decor and seating.More

As a new vegan I love this place. The menu is not large but the food is fresh and hot. They have a buffet style set up and you pay by the pound for the items of your choice. The curry potatos are my fav!

We visited this vegetarian restaurant last week during the Art Fair. We were easily able to choose a tasty meal in short time from many choices on the buffet and lost no time in getting back to visiting the Fair. Food is both delicious and...nutritious and is good for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Prices are by-the-pound, based on what a person chooses to eat. We had a great experience at this restaurant which is easy to locate on Fifth Ave close to the Ann Arbor Public Library.More

Not sure about the Indian food because we stopped for their gluten free bakery called simple pleasures. They had a nice selection of vegan and gluten free desserts. The chocolate pie was great. The service was excellent.

I can't imagine how anyone would dislike this restaurant. Even if you love meat more than you love your children, the food is so flavorful at Earthen Jar, you'll come away happy. And smiling. The decor is pure collegetown, the place is small, the plates...are paper. So no, it isn't upscale at all, but I call this fine dining at its best and you won't convince me otherwise. The dals are cooked beautifully, the bindi was very fine nice, the tofu dishes are scrumptious, and the cold salad was packed with cruciferous vegetables, as was the cold vegetable dish (sort of a stew, but really, who cares what you call it when it tastes so good?) If I had to use one word to summarize the meal, I would use the word "flavor". Earthen Jar packs the food with flavor and does not over-season at all. I may be returning to Ann Arbor for more business trips in the months to come and you can bet I'll be eating at Earthen Jar again.More

Divine tasting dishes that make you yearn for more but the drawback is the expense. My boyfriend and I each had a modest portion of food and the total cost for the two of us was $25.00 and we didn't even have a basket of...naan bread or a beverage to go with the meal. Everything from the buffet is weighed by the pound and it adds up quickly so prepare to spend money. I'd eat here everyday because the food is sensational. Absolute fireworks to the mouth, excellent authentic Indian food with just the right amount of spices to put you into nirvana. I just wish the prices were a bit lower.More

I finally visited Earthen jar after hearing about it from my colleagues at work. I was excited to eat vegetarian Indian food, unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. The spices in the food was just not right. The chole (chickpea curry) tasted like it was...just made with tomato sauce :( it had a very unpleasant taste. Naan was a huge disappointment too. We were told we would be getting Naan but we were served Pita bread instead. Yes 15 years ago or more Naan was not available in the market but only available at Indian restaurants. But now you can buy Naan everywhere. It's sad to cheat customers this way, serving them Pita bread instead of Naan but charging us the price of Naan. My daughter who loves Potato and cauliflower curry couldn't eat a few bites of it. Now each time we pass the restaurant she looks at me and asks that we will never go back there again right?? I will never visit the restaurant again. There are so many better Indian restaurants available in and around Ann Arbor.More

The title says it all. If you want excellent authentic vegetarian food. Very friendly staff. All Indian food. It's buffet style. They have about 8 tables. You can make it really spicy if you want. Would definitely recommend. They also do take out/carry away.

One of the best Indian restaurants anywhere. Buffet style, pay by the pound, clean up after yourself when done. No frill, because they don't need it, the food speaks for itself. Amazing dishes full of amazing flavor. Some of the best Indian food I have...ever eaten, ever. Owned and operated by wonderful people. Note: they are not open very late and do close on all major holidays.More
