My husband and I were traveling with his parents and ate lunch at this family-owned, 80 + year old historic Ann Arbor restaurant recently. It is cute toy located in a strip mall, but when you step inside, you feel transported to a different world. My father-in-law is German, and knows authentic German food when he tastes it (always wistful... More

On our first visit to this area, our friends suggested this restaurant and we were very pleased. Both couples shared a platter that had an assortment of German cuisine from schnitzel, various bratwursts, sauerkraut, red cabbage, German potatoes, and spaetzel. There was more food than two people could eat. We probably could have shared one platter. We started off with... More

This restaurant appears to be authentic German food but fails to meet that expectation. The sauerkraut tasted like it came from a can. The perch however seemed really fresh. I guess the quality is dependent on each item. The beer was the best aspect of this restaurant. Overall an average restaurant experience.

Wife and I paid first visit today. Interior decorations very nice Bavarian style. Wife had schnitzel, I had pan fried perch, and we had potato pancakes, spätzle, cucumber salad and beet salad for sides. Entrees and sides were very good, and perch was among the best I have had in SE Michigan. In addition, our server was friendly and efficient,... More

Perhaps my husband and I have spent too much time in Germany (my brother lives in Berlin) but the food at Metzger's does not compare favorably with 'the real thing.' It looks like typical German fare but lacks the depth of flavor of what we experience in Germany. The Apfel Strudel, in particular (a favorite of mine) was really quite... More

The restaurant is nicely decorated, but it doesn't give you that super cozy or homey feeling. Except maybe in the bar, it looked like I could spend a couple of hours in there... We were a party of six, and we were all satisfied but nobody got that "Wow!" feeling. My appetizer took forever to show, then it finally came,... More

We come here several times each year. My mom was born in Europe and there are very few German Resturants in SE Michigan. We loved this place when it was located in downtown Ann Arbor. The new location doesn't have that vintage look but it does have the German beer, food and bread. Not a fan of their Red Cabbage... More

Who'd have thought there would a yummy German restaurant in Dexter Michigan of all places. But here it is off Zeeb road near a Holiday Inn Express. Great specials and home made Strudel. I asked my waitress about the sayings on the wall and luckily she lived in German as a child and was able to translate... Good food and... More
