First experience with German food and I want more after this visit. Had the schnitzel w/ mushroom gravy and egg noodles. Highly recommend the raspberry vinaigrette dressing as well. And......the beer was great.

Love the potato salad! Authentic to what my grandmother used to made. My grandparents emigrated from Germany in 1923. Can’t find this food anywhere anymore in our area.

What a gem! So envious that we do not have a place like this where I live. From the moment I stepped in and was greeted by the hostess, until I left, I was taken care of with genuine interest from all the staff I...interacted with. So pleasant right there. Sitting down and looking around, one thing that impressed me was the obvious number of regular customers, all know by name by hostess, bartender, wait staff. THAT was a good sign that I picked the right place. Food: Had a large sausage platter with three different sausages - bratwurst, knackwurst, metwurst, sauerkraut and spätzle. It came with two different mustards - one hot, one sweet. AND some horseradish. I tried the horseradish before the waitress left (thinking: prepared horseradish... hmmm... from a jar?) Wooo-hoooo - sinuses are CLEAR, hair is on FIRE! Yes, she said when she saw my reaction - "we grate it fresh"... No doubt! Had a Hofbräuhaus Lager with that. So good, food and all. Room for dessert? Not really, but I took a piece of Schwartzwaldtorte to bring back to my hotel for later. Food (day two!)... Yes, I did my best to become a regular customer! Zwiebelrostbraten with mashed potatoes and a pickled cucumber/onion salad. Warsteiner Dunkel beer to go with that. I could go on about that, but I won't - it was just great. Apfelstrudel mit Schlag till efterrätt - I managed to eat my dessert this time. My only and small nit-pick would be that the cucumber salad was made with "regular" cucumbers, i.e., they had seeds in them. Wish that had been made with the "european cucumbers" instead. If/when I get to the Ann Arbor area again, they are on my short list to have dinner.More

I came here on the late morning of July 6. I ordered the knockwurst sandwich and a side of mashed potatoes, plus water. All of it was delicious. I'd come back again, since the staff was friendly.

Metzger's is in a great location, just outside of Ann Arbor on the west side and right across a parking lot from the nearby hotel. Even though it was a busy Friday evening, we were seated quickly and had an excellent, attentive server. My husband...had the baked French onion soup (delicious) then ordered the spatzle, two huge stuffed cabbage rolls and the beet salad. All very tasty and large portions. I had the sesame chicken with mushroom sauce, a garden salad with real Bleu Cheese pieces and yummy potato pancakes. We had also the brown bread which was quite good. As mentioned, the portions were quite large and a server told us patrons can ask for senior or even child portions which we will remember. We also split an order of bread pudding, a bit different than I've had before as it was more dense but quite good. The decor is just right with lots to look at, all over the restaurant and even at the booths. A fun place to start our vacation!More

This used to be a favorite place to eat, but not so much anymore. I had the saurbraten and the meat tasted old and tough. Gravy was gloppy. Grandkid had pasta and it was also like glue to eat. He barely finished half of it....Pity. The restaurant was almost full, so you would expect the food to be fresh, but it just wasn't.More

Decided to try as it is within walking distance of the hotel I stayed at, as the staff recommended it. I was pleasantly surprised by their menu choices and LOVED the Schnitzel! They also have a good variety of beer to go along with my...meal. Even during lunch and this being a bit off the city map, the restaurant was busy. Decent pricing and Sue was amazing! Will be back!More

We heard a lot of great reviews about this restaurant, and given the fact that I am from Germany (born and raised), my husband decided to treat us to a nice lunch. The venue itself is very nice and looks like a typical restaurant in...Germany. Very nice ambiance and very clean. The menu offers a lot of options, so i was beyond thrilled. Our waitres left a lot to be desired in terms of friendliness and common courtesy, but I can usually look past that if everything else fits the bill. We ordered a variety of foods such as grilled cheese for kid 1, cheeseburger for kid 2, Käsespätzle for kid 3, Rouladen for the hubby anf Jägerschnitzel for myself. Funny enough, the American kid dishes were phenomenal. Everything German, however, was not so German after all and very disappointing for someone from Germany. All Spätzle noodles are the sub-par grocery bought version and not the homemade kind, which is disheartening. To make matters worse, they were terribly overcooked and globby, so half of the meals were garbage. Käsespätzle was topped with what i guess should have been fried onions but resembled strings of burnt beyond recognition pieces of charcoal, rendering that entire dish inedible. Gross. The Schnitzel was okay but rather plain. Same can be said about the Rouladen. The house made gravy is, in fact, a made from the package gravy and leaves a lot to be desired - particularly the homemade feeling of you get what I mean. Overall, it is an okay place if you don't mind spending an arm and a leg on mediocre quality. We will, in fact, not be returning. It's just not worth it.More

We have been here 15 years and finally got to Metzgers. Sorry we didn't go earlier! But we will be back soon. Service, food, and atmosphere were all excellent! My Grandma was German/American and the tastes brought back good memories of her cooking. I think...the food is very authentic.More

After waiting for service for almost 30 minutes we started to notice movement near the curtains. On closer inspection we discovered several roaches crawling around. The we looked the more dirty the place appeared. Quickly left

Hello. We are a small family restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI. I think you have the wrong restaurant (perhaps this was intended for the Virginia restaurant that was recently in the news). We do not have curtains or roaches (we are in Michigan).

Stopped into Metzger's with a coworker on our way to the airport. I am German and felt like having something good from home. The choice became jaeger schnitzel for both of us. Jaeger sauce is a brown sauce with mushrooms, sometimes some onions. What we...got was zigeuner sauce which has red peppers and other stuff in it. Not what I wanted. The waiter said "this is how we make our jaeger sauce", instead of taking it back and making it right. Since i didn't leave any gratuity, i still owe them a tip. Here it is: Learn the difference between German food before you try to sell it. Don't argue with Germans about their native cuisine if you have no clue what you are talking about. The restaurant interior is decorated very nicely will all kinds of German items and looks like you are in Germany. As long as you don't eat anything you'll be fine. Move on. Don't waist your money.More
