After many years of being restaurant customers of Satchels, we used them to cater our graduation party and was so happy with everything. They provided a very quick and reasonable quote for the amount of people and the type of food we were interested in.
They provided quick response to all follow-up questions regarding dietary restrictions (all sauces are gluten free!), this made the decision to use them a no-brainer. Everyone commented on how great the food was and we plan to use Satchels for any large parties we have in the future.

We treated ourselves to our favorite combo of smoked chicken, collard greens, rice and beans, and Mac n’ cheese to watch play off football. The food was delicious. Watching the Lions lose not so enjoyable!

Family member was at a nearby hospital, so my wife and I were talking in the waiting room about finding a place to have lunch. Someone there suggested Satchels and we really liked it. The person taking orders took some time to show us the menu since we were first timers.
Both of us had the pulled pork sandwich with cornbread, Cole slaw, and sweet tea. The sandwich and corn bread were great. The slaw was ok, but we both prefer more mayo and less vinegar. We still ate it all though!
Atmosphere was good, people friendly, we will be back!

We ordered catering from Satchels for a pre wedding gathering for about 30 ppl and it did not disappoint! Everyone loved it and we had just enough left over for a few sandwiches the next day. Hugh was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Don’t miss this great spot for the best BBQ in town!

I tend to be somewhat skeptical when I visit a new barbecue restaurant for a couple of reasons. First, I come from a family full of people who make pretty good barbecue, so it needs to be better than what the average amateur can do at home with their smoker. Second, I have visited far too many barbecue places that were supposed to be good that just weren’t. Thin, tough brisket, cold food, bad sides, everything you don’t want at a barbecue restaurant seems to show up and so many. Well, I have good news for picky barbecue fans like me. Satchels seemed to do everything right. I showed up on a Sunday afternoon with some family members, and we tried the ribs, brisket, and sausage, and everything seem to be cooked perfectly. The brisket was cut to a perfect thickness and melted in your mouth. The ribs were very meaty, tender, and full of flavor. The sausage wasn’t your typical kielbasa that need to be dressed up with cheap barbecue to make it seem like something different. Instead, it had a unique flavor that what is a real crowd pleaser. For the sides we tried Green beans that were prepared pretty simply with butter and salt, but were delicious. They offered two different kinds of coleslaw, one with a vinegar-based dressing the other with a mayonnaise-based dressing. We tried the vinegar-based dressing, and it was crisp and acidic, just what you needed to cut through the richness of the barbecue. The macaroni and cheese is what you would expect at a barbecue restaurant, which means very cheesy and rich, which is a good thing. On top of offering good food, the customer service is also outstanding. Although it was my first time in the restaurant, it seemed like there was a steady stream of repeat customers who were coming in to pick up takeout while we were eating. This may have been my first trip to Satchels, but it definitely won’t be my last.

I've catered BBQ from Satchel's on two occasions, each time serving ~75 people. I cannot recommend Satchel's enough - the owner Hugh is friendly and knows exactly what he's doing, is flexible when putting together the menu, and stays on top of scheduling from the time you first call to after the event itself. 100% order from Satchel's if you're looking to cater an event in the Ann Arbor area

I have had BBQ all over the country, Satchel's had the best side dishes. the beans were very good, not overcooked and soupy like most places.
The vinegar cole slaw had good flavor and balance and the collards were good too. Many places they are under seasoned or salty. The brisket was moist and tender, not dry and chewy. I thought the ribs needed a bit more rub but were cooked well.
I would go back and that is saying something, I am very critical when it comes to BBQ.

The bet BBQ in Ann Arbor. We do take out here regularly, and all of their meats are great - pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork & chicken, and smoked kielbasa sausage. They also have frequent specials such as corned beef, smoked turkey and smoked salmon. Their sides and cornbread are also good, especially their collard greens. Service is fast and the prices are pretty good. Definitely recommend!

We planned on going to a well-known Ann Arbor deli, but after finding out how much hassle it was going to be to order our food and the pricing had skyrocketed, we scrapped that plan. Happened upon Satchel's as we were heading out of town and so glad we did. If you love bbq and southern style food, this is the place! Prices were very reasonable for large portions (easily splittable) and the service was stellar. We tried the chicken plate and the pulled pork plate with baked beans, vinegar slaw, collards and red beans and rice. All were very good! The corn bread was great for sopping up the collard juice. Yum! Another bonus was that we were supporting a family-owned business.

We used Satchel’s to cater an 80th birthday party for 60 people. It was great! Everyone loved the food and I think it was the best brisket I have ever had. My dad and father-in-law also thought it was the best BBQ they’ve had overall.
The service was also great. Very friendly and helpful. They kept everything refreshed and helped all our guests. They cleaned up so well we couldn’t even tell they were there and they also helped us pack up the leftovers.
Satchel’s will be my new go-to for catering!

We held a family event (about 40 people) with our dinner catered by Satchel's. Satchel's worked with me when I had questions, and all emails were answered quickly. The food and the service were incredible. The brisket and the potato salad received the most praise from our guests, but everything was delicious. We had very little food left over because everyone went up for second (and third) helpings. Highly recommend!

We had a reception of about 100 people catered by Satchels and it was a huge hit. Organizing was a breeze, as Hugh helped me determine exactly how much food was needed and which dishes would be the biggest hit. We had a few vegans/gluten free people so the sides were perfect for them while the brisket and other meats were fantastic.
The setup was quick and the gentleman serving was loved by everyone. He was friendly and very nice. The food disappeared quickly, after everyone took a couple runs at the tables.
Would absolutely have Satchels cater again!

Satchel's has such an incredible menu, with so many favorites in our house. My fav is the smoked kielbasa and bread pudding. If you're in town, you should really make a pitstop for great food from the friendliest staff--outstanding customer service throughout the pandemic, when I'm sure they were short staffed like everywhere else. We're so lucky to have this option when no ones jumping for joy over cooking! Satchel's is across the board a crowd pleaser!

I stopped at Satchel's in a panic when a small dinner turned into feeding 30 people. With less than 4 hours notice, the staff filled my order. I was feeding some pretty picky eaters who had only positive comments about the food. You all are FANTASTIC and everything we ordered was delicious! Thank you.

I ordered Satchels catering for a small party of 22 people. It was fantastic. EVERYONE completely enjoyed all the food. Including the graduate, my son, who adores BBQ. Top 2 favs were the dry ribs which fell off the bone and the coleslaw.
Everything was warm after pick up. we had a bit left over but not a ton Hugh did an excellent job estimating quantity. The website and Hugh made ordering soooo easy, pretty much stress free.
I will be eating at Satchels again soon! And I’ve already recommended Satchels to 2 friends.
