Dessous is, as its name suggests, in a basement. The ambience was pleasant, but that pretty well the only positive thing I can say about it. Food was expensive and, frankly, not all that good. Starters for sharing were unmemorable, and a main-course mushroom pasta...was rather dry, without many mushrooms; the alcohol-free beer that went with it was horrendously over-priced. This place survives by pretending it’s fine dining: it’s not – it’s just a little pretentious dining. Best avoided.More

We are glad to hear you found the ambience pleasant, but do apologize that you didn't enjoy your food selections. Our chef definitely would have been happy to fix or replace the Yukon Gold Potato Gnocchi if he had known you felt the dish was...More

Delicious and inventive food. A great wine list that emphasizes affordable bottles from all over. Friendly service. What more could I want? I would come more often if the prices were a tiny bit lower, but quality costs money so I'm not complaining. We took...out-of-town friends here and they loved it.More

First time for me & my wife. Seated in a room that would host a party. Too large & never filled the room. From the time we ordered our drink to dessert the service was SLOW. The sense of urgency was not apparent. Entree, spicy...salmon, was good. Might not return for quite some time.More

I have to confess I was absolutely blown away by my experience at Dessous in Ann Arbor. The flavors were simply magical and almost made me cry with every one of the multiple delicious dishes we tasted. I probably have to say that the food...was coming from the kitchen upstairs at the Blue Llama. The chef there is simply fantastic. I would absolutely be a frequent visitor to the place if I lived in the area. After dinner you can enjoy drinks at the Blue Llama jazz bar. Do go.More

Visiting friends for U of M graduation and booked this restaurant as a thank you! A little hard to find because you walk down stairs to enter. Impressive Wine list too. We started at the Bar with happy hour drinks and specially priced nibbles ....We decided to split an order of duck confit. Heaven!! (Nice Bartender!) Because there were so many things that we wanted try...we moved into the trendy dining room and ordered a galaxy of wonderful tasting and beautifully presented offerings . We will be back the next time we are in Ann Arbor:)More

Luckily we were there for conversation with old friends because our waitress was inattentive to say the least! Empty drinks and stacked plates on our table for 25 minutes until we flagged her down for the bill. Not even sure a manager was on staff...as I never saw one on the floor. Menu was very limited so I asked for the sushi menu from the bar. Another disappointment as it had like 6 rolls on the menu comprising of a California roll, a shrimp tempura roll, and 4 more rolls that had spicy tuna in or on them. It’s a nice restaurant in regards to aesthetics but it could be so much more. Does not even come close to the other 4.5 star restaurants in Ann Arbor that I have eaten at.More

We really wanted to like this restaurant. Wine list was about as lean in a higher end restaurant I have seen. Green chicken was very good but the mashed potatoes had 5 times too much garlic. Sea bass just has overthought.

We ate here with 3 other couples on a Friday night. While busy, the restaurant wasn't crowded, the music created a great atmosphere, and we could all hear each other along the table. The menu was innovative and with 8 of us, we covered all...of the special Restaurant Week menu. Each dish was tasty fusion: sea bass with kimchi, samosa with chipotle sauce, lamb meatballs. We plan on returning soon!More

The menu is as impossible to categorize as it is dazzling, thanks to the Indian, Cuban, and Chesapeake Bay influences of the three chef-owners who dreamed up Dessous’ melt-in-your-mouth crab cakes, voluptuous disks of avocado naan, sweet and spicy sea bass atop local kimchi, and...sizzling iron skillets of lamb meatballs. The crisp, but tender flourless chocolate cake with slightly spicy Chantilly cream is not to be missed....I still dream about this place...More

Everything about our experience was upscale. When we arrived there was combo playing soft background music. The space is very modern and classy. The service was excellent, as was everything that we ate and drank. An example of the level of service: when I asked...where the restroom was, the server (not ours) did not just point, but walked me part way there.More
