The coffee at this cafe is the best in Luang Prabang . We stopped here everyday for coffee and for my husband tea. We also ate here a few times and our food was cooked well and was always tasty plus affordable. Many places in...Luang Prabang are so expensive , but we found The Mekong Espresso very affordable . Highly recommend this cafe . P.S. I loved the sign out the front .More

The staff is so kind. I was in this cafe for 2-3 hours. Then I saw him talking with the customers coming into the cafe. He is always helpful and kind to the customers. For example, when the customer getting into the cafe asked the...stuff to let her use the toilet(she looked very rushed.), then he says ok with smile and let her know where the toilet is. When I asked the staff to interview him for a minute( because I was very interested in luang prabang local people.), then he said ok with smile and he answered sincerely all questions that I asked with smile. From the interview, I got an impression from him that he took care of luang prabang very much. The atmosphere, the staff, the taste of the coffee, the location, all perfect! And it offers 'Mekong Coffee' on the menu!(Although I did not try it, it can be a good memory in luang prabang.)More

Came to this place based on really good reviews (not only on this site, but also on other outside sources), but sadly the shop doesn't really meet expectations. The Good: Great coffee (had Hazelnut Latte and Caramel Macchiato, both for 23k LAK) in terms of...flavor and cup size. Didn't have a dish, since we had already eaten elsewhere, so can't really comment on the food quality. You can stay as long as you want and are given the Wifi password after ordering. Staff was friendly and refilled our water as we ran out of it. The Bad: Shop's doors are wide open, so as the day heats up, so does the inside environment. Since it's an open space there's no AC, and while there's several fans on the ceiling doing their best, it's not enough. Consequence of having an open space, there's a few flies/mosquitoes flying around. This might be an issue if you intend to visit later during the day. Internet is slow and little spotty. Don't expect to be able to hold video calls. The Ugly: There was no soap left in the bathroom so I approached the staff and asked for some. "Finish" isn't an acceptable to this request. I don't blame staff for this, I understand they can't just go out and buy some. It is up to management to make sure bare minimums are always covered, like toiler paper or soap. On the bright side, there's plenty of space for The Mekong Espresso (also goes by name of The Mekong Coffee Lounge & Residence) to improve and become a great coffee shop. They have the basics well covered, in most aspects.More

We came here based on the stellar reviews. Big mistake. Not only was the food VERY average and it took over 45 minutes to get any of it, even though we were the only people in the cafe, but when they eventually served us water,...there were bugs floating in one of the glasses. And not just one bug. The server proceeded to get a spoon and try to scoop out the bugs... like he was going to scoop out the bugs and then give us back the same glass of water (!!??). That was bad sign #2. Then as we continued to wait for our food and coffee, we witnessed one of the servers, who had been back in the kitchen, standing behind the front counter digging away in her nose. After she was done, she didn't wash her hands or anything. I'm sure these kinds of things go on unseen, but there's just something extra special about watching it happen that kills your appetite. Once the food finally arrived, it was greasy and just plain below average food. We left hungry and disgusted. Most certainly NOT worth the wait or a visit at all.More

Four of us stopped here for a drink and catch up and we spent over 2 hours here. It was such a relaxed and peaceful setting and the staff were fantastically friendly. Prices are reasonable and a good variety of choice in the menu. The...fruit smoothies were really fresh and thick consistency and I loved the honeydrop iced coffee. We're going back again for breakfast this time round.More
