Had lunch at the Silk Road cafe today, sitting on the bank of the Mekong River. Food was delicious and plentiful. The veggie dumplings were so good. Staff well trained and friendly. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This is part of the Ock Pop Tok group and is a short distance from the town Centre ( taking that as the National Museum). The location is stunning overlooking the mountains to the west of the Mekong. Try to have sundowners and watch the...fiery orb slowly disappear behind the mountains, Decent service and an interesting menu to complete a lovely experience. Resident cats are a entertainment in themselves.More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! We could not agree more with you; we do have one of the best spots for sunsets overlooking the Mekong! We hope to welcome you again in the future!

This is the most sublime setting, perched as it is, above the Mekong which was meandering lazily past the day I was there, matching my mood perfectly. The service was kindly and attentive, the food delicious and the cocktails, happiness inducing. Viisit here with plenty...of time to spare because it is part of the Living Crafts centre, which is so interesting and full of interesting things to see and do, mostly to do with textiles which traditionally form such an important part of Lao life.More

We stopped by here for lunch one day and a tour of the fabric making shop. The cafe sits right on the Mekong river with stunning views in each direction. The property is beautiful and adds to the ambiance. I had the fish cakes and...they were outstanding. My wife had the Ock Pop Tok Khao Pat which was really unique. Our drinks were hand made and tasty. This place is a little out of the way but definitely worth the stop, it would make a great place for any meal.More

I love stopping here during the warmer part of the day for a light meal and cold drink. Despite being on the busy central peninsula road it feels secluded under colorful umbrellas and shady trees. Try their rainbow summer rolls and a banana shake (or...basil gin fizz). Spend an hour or two relaxing after temple hopping. Very nice!!More

I came for lunch after visiting the Living Crafts Centre. The restaurant is ight on the centre premises -- just walk past the reception and go down a few steps. The outdoor seating sits under a canopy with hanging prayer decorations, with the prime seats...overlooking the river. The prime seats were reserved by some tour groups when I visited, so I sat a bit further away but still had a good view. The staff must be used to dealing with tourists, and handled the interactions with aplomb, including explaining various dishes in good English (and in the case of my neighboring table, trying to accommodate a guest's many allergies). As reflective of its namesake and location, the menu contains an interesting array of dishes inspired by different ethnic groups along the silk road, as well as Lao regional cuisine. I wanted to sample a variety, and was happy to find different special sets available. My meal consisted of the Weaver's lunch set (main course), mango with blue sticky rice (dessert), and silkworm poo tea. Weaver's lunch set contained bamboo soup (vegetable blend), pork sausage wrapped in banana leaf (mushroom version is also available), fried Mekong seaweed, jeow bong chili paste, and red sticky rice. This combination of small tasting dishes hit the right spot for me. All dishes were incredibly flavorful, and the bamboo plating was inventive to match the weaving theme. The mango sticky rice was paired with tamarind sauce and coconut milk. The blue color of sticky rice was inspired by indigo dye, apparently, which was cute and tasted like regular sticky rice despite the odd color. I especially liked the mix and match approach with tamarind and coconut sauces. It was fun to try out the sauces individually and blended with the sticky rice. Don't be alarmed by the name of silkworm poo tea. This is just mulberry tea, very mild in flavor. Remember, silkworms eat mulberry leaves, which are also used in local herbal medicine. Think of it as the tea equivalent of weasel coffee. The meal came out amazingly reasonable in price (~USD $11). I left feeling relaxed and ready to start to the next round of temples. The location is a bit far from old town, but worth a hike if you would like to visit the living crafts center and stay for lunch.More

The cafe is set away from the road in a well coiffured garden with lots of shade. The ambiance lends itself well to a relaxing and stress free enjoyment of their varied menu. Their choice of music (jazz) is an excellent complement to the overall...ambiance. The staff are beyond the usual conscientious service one receives in Luang Prabang. As vegans, our server was extremely courteous, resourceful and efficient. An item we ordered, he informed us after consulting with the kitchen, included butter. He suggested alternatives in a polite and engaging manner. The food, when it arrived, was beautifully presented. We would highly recommend visiting this restaurant.More

Apparently they have 2 locations. We dined at their Heritage Shop Garden location and the food was terrible. When I ordered their chicken noodle soup I told the waiter that I wanted it spicy. His response was that Laotian food is spicy. Well I am...used to Thai food and when my soup arrived it was completely bland tasting. I then asked for chillies and the waiter pointed to the one chilli on my plate. I basically had to beg to get more chillies and even then my dish was mediocre at best. I will not dine there again but the craft shop on the premises was worth exploring.More
