Make sure you try this restaurant if you want a taste of Romania

Whenever we visit Sibiu we make sure we do not miss this restaurant. Our kids love the food here and they are the most trust-worthy critics when it comes to food. They always say it is best than home cooked food. They provide a large variety of Romanian traditional food as well as local drinks, the taste is always amazing and the service outstanding. Indeed they always serve you with a joke aside and they are all truly Speedy Gonzalez, waiting time is very short. They do things quickly and with a smile on their face. The place is small, somewhat hidden in the cellar of an old building in the city center but this is what creates the special atmosphere and you wish to come back. When in Sibiu make sure you eat a meal there, it is really worth your time and money.

Best food in Romania

This was the best meal we had in Romania. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to seat us quickly. We loved the ambience of the cellar and our waiter was friendly and helpful, explaining the different dishes. We had the mixed grill, turkey with black pepper sauce and the peasant potatoes- all were amazing. We also enjoyed our crepes with fruit for dessert with a glass of visinata. Our meals plus beer, wine, coffee, visinata and dessert was only $30- amazing! I am looking forward to returning here.

Comfort traditional food, friendly staff, and great atmoshpere

The staff go out of their way to make your day with funny remarks and jokes. The food is some of the best traditional food you can have in Sibiu. The salads feel fresh, and the food in general is well seasoned. The prices are good considering the zone.

Interesting ambient

We arrived in Sibiu late after a day of driving and asked our hotel for a restaurant recommendation. The restaurant is located in a basement and it was an interesting ambient. Most of the tables were occupied which was a good initial sign but the waiter, a young guy, was a bit abrupt and had the attitude that he had somewhere else he wanted to be. Despite that he was helpful with the wine recommendation. The menu is quite big with a big variety of Romanian food. I ordered the chorba which in my opinion was on the watery side (I have lived in central Europe for many years so know what good chorba tastes like).

The food was excellent! The price compared fo what you pay to eat is well balanced. The place has a romanian traditional spirit, the waiters are dressed as a traditional romanian peasant. If you stay or you are visiting Sibiu, eat here! Is one of the places whit really nice and tasty food.

Impolite and rude waitors, the food could be better

The waitors were extremely impolite, it was as if we bothered them. On the menu only the name of the dish is in english, so when we asked the waitor to explain us what kind of meat the dishes were made of, or what kind of vegetables were in the salads, he got very annoyed and rude. The whole evening none of the waitors checked on our table to see if everything is fine, the only time the came to us was to ask us if we want to order dessert. The food is too salty, the salad came unseasoned, definately not worth to ruin your evening by the extremely bad treatment the waitors give to their guests.

Beautiful restaurant and fabulous food !

Delicious food in a beautiful setting. I had the sarmales which were amazing, husband had a chicken stew and my children ate chicken schnitzel all accompanied by plates of salad, polenta and white wine. We finished with papanasi which was amazing. The portions were generous, in particular the chicken schnitzel. The staff were lovely and friendly. Highly recommended.

20 minutes wait for a table but worth it.

They don’t take reservations; it is first come first served. We enjoyed a Transylvanian mixed grill, with a side serve of peasants’ potatoes and a peasants’ stew (pork). Both dishes were delicious. The kitchen closes at 9.30 p.m., and they were turning away people at 8.40 p.m. It is easy to see why this small restaurant is so popular. It is in a side street off the walking mall away from the tourist traps. And hence the prices were very reasonable.

After reading our guide, we decided on our only evening in Sibiu to come and try this famous restaurant. Hidden in a small street with a non-existent storefront that “doesn’t look like much”, this restaurant is in the basement. It is necessary to expect a little wait to be placed in the small cellar of around ten tables. Once in place everything goes quickly! Perfect service, drinks and food. We tasted a Romanian specialty from Transylvania and it was really good. Very good value for money. We chose to go hard this evening to finish and tasted the traditional papanasi desserts, very good and plentiful donuts. We will come back without hesitation if passing through Sibiu. +10 points for great service, the best meeting in Romania without hesitation.

Most qualitative and tastiest romanian traditional food encountered in Sibiu. The interior style taking you back several tens of years in the past, resembling the romanian tradition, also added its share to our overall experience. Definitely worth trying. Also, check the mulled wine 'cause it's gorgeous :)

Excellent traditional Romanian food. In a basement, with a traditional decor. The waiters dressed in Valachic clothes, served us very quickly (as is the case in general, in all the Romanian restaurants we visited) and relatively polite. We ate EXCELLENT chicken soup and delicious juveleries! Pork snail and dream chicken!!! Although for us Greeks it is a little strange to eat meat without some garniture, we did not miss it. We also ate quite a few delicious red-colored chickens and a slice of pork that contained bacon sausage and pieces of pork. The latter although it was very well cooked with delicious sauce did not make us crazy. We ordered some extra the original order stuff, but due to loading and customers in waiting did not come to us, which is why the 4 stars. We paid 17€/person. Great choice for dining in Simbio.

Great local food

Great place if you want to try local food. I recommend tapşa and meatballs soup. The restaurant is at -1 level, the atmosphere is very cozy and you can try different kind of meat dishes. We paid 40 euros for a complete lunch for 2 (including drinks).

Romanian culinary tradition at its best

Located underground in a long vaulted cellar, this restaurant in the pedestrian city center of Sibiu highlights traditional Romanian cuisine. The dishes are excellent and plentiful. The polenta is the best we ate in Romania. The service is provided by staff in traditional attire to match the theme. The clientele is rather international given the price. One of our best addresses in Transylvania.

We had ciorba (sour soup) and balmos (baked creamy polenta eith cheese). Just amazing! Anf the service is top grade. We asked for a bowl for our kid so we could share the soup with him. Instead the eaiter brought a bowl and pour a separate portion for him, free of charge (kid size but still)... i was very impressed!

100% traditional , good service, good food !

I was there with my family. I try a "Pomana Porcului" - pork meat & sausage with polenta & a good slice of local cheese and a chicken soup. My wife reccoment a eggplant sallad. We eat a pancake with a local cheese ! Delicious.
