I rarely leave reviews but the waiter went out of his way to make me feel welcome.
Waiter saw me watching Wimbledon on my phone and spent 10 minutes setting up on the big screen for me to watch.
Wonderful traditional Bulgarian homely food, great beer, nice setting. Very big portions made for sharing but as alone the gentleman encouraged me to still get the mixed grill and packaged up the leftovers for me to take home for dinner. Very reasonable prices for amount of food.
Thank you for looking after me so well!

We visited on an early Spring evening after the sun had gone down and had a warm welcome from the friendly staff. We ordered the potato with four cheeses and the mixed hot plate. The food was delicious, freshly cooked and good value, as was the draft Kamenitsa beer and local Mavrud rosé wine. We also enjoyed meeting the local Plovdiv cats! The restaurant is right at the top of the cobbled streets of the old town with a lovely view. Our second visit and would really recommend. We will be back - thank you.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local, which is always a good sign (and a way to avoid overpriced tourist traps). The ambience was lively and there is a great view from the outdoor area. The portions were large and tasty, service was attentive and the price was happily affordable. Plenty of options for vegetarians too (the salad was delicious!). Would definitely recommend to other visitors.

Popped in here for a late lunch after photographing the menu the day before and reading reviews. A very friendly owner / manager /waiter attended us with some English (& some Russian) and we ordered cabbage rolls and the bbq ribs with fries and 0.5l of rose wine.
The cabbage rolls stuffed with meat and rice were very small and not what we were expecting but tasty enough and plentiful.
The ribs were a mixed bag to be honest, two racks appeared with a small roasted pepper and a bed of fries. I asked for some bbq sauce as the bbq ribs had arrived with barely any. To be honest it's the first time I've been charged extra (1.5 Lev) for some sauce but maybe that's usual in Bulgaria....
Anyway, of the two racks one had already been cut into quarters when served and although a little bit overcooked / dry the flavour was good and there was plenty of meat falling off the ribs. A good start but sadly the second rack was more bone and cartilage than meat but I'm going to hope that this was just a "bad" rack their butcher had provided (and the chef) didn't notice rather than a deliberate policy. I've cooked ribs myself and know a "bad" one can sneak through.
Overall we were happy with the meal and would recommend you try the restaurant out, our bill was just under 40 Lev (exc. tip) and we didn't bring up the rib issue because the first rack was very good and trying (nicely) to raise an issue in a foreign language rarely is understood in the spirit it's intended!

The "extra clay plate" I've ordered came with very hot plate, but not so hot food, obviously clay plate was heated separately from the food inside since some of the meat was just warm (microwaved). The pork was old and tasted really bad, when I called the waiter, he answered that since I didn't complained immediately there is nothing to do. He insisted that he taste the food is normal and just not our taste, we had to pay for it. After we did pay however he agreed to taste and admitted the pork has a bad taste, but nothing was proposed just dry "sorry for you". If you wand to eat good meal, this is not the place for you, no matter the view.

This is a pretty, ethnic, inique restaurant with stunning views from the outdoor terrace. As I go out to the terrace, all the primo tables with great views have “reserved” signs on them, really? I was there over an hour yet no one sat at them. Why? It’s a good way to get people pissed off before they sit down. Maybe the waiter sells them, for a fee. Nonetheless, I sat down and ordered from a server who never smiles but speaks good English. I order salad, calamari and fries, after 10 minutes the server states they don’t have 2 of the items. Hmmmm. So I order carrot salad, and pork ribs, as I saw them on the next table over and they looked good. As is typical things arrive haphazardly, first the fries [no ketchup], then the carrot salad [all carrots not pealed in a julienne cut, finally the ribs.
The fries were typical frozen fries, nothing special. The salad was OK, it needed a dressing other than oil, some Tadziki would work, there was too much at 200 grams. The ribs, two large slabs were rather greasy and could have used more time on the fire, there was no sauce. I’d go back for drinks and the view, but not for food.

Don’t miss this authentic Bulgarian restaurant, located in the Old Town, near Craft Street! While the location might make you expect a tourist trap, the food is outstanding and the prices are surprisingly reasonable, even by local standards. We were a group of four hungry people and tried a variety of dishes, including a 1.4 kg pork rib, cooked vegetables, salad, tempura zucchini with yogurt, and few beers. Everything was delicious and truly authentic. Highly recommended!

This is one of few restaurants actually located in Plovdiv old town. There are good elevated views over the city. It is a large restaurant that can clearly accept large groups but few people were in at the time of our visit. We opted for a simple lunch of stuffed green pepper and a country salad. Good craft beers on tap. Efficient service and card payments are accepted.

Well known, on top of an ancient city hill, Bulgarian cuisine restaurant with many grills
large room or outdoor terrace overlooking the new town (but you will have to endure cigarette smoke!).
Friendly welcome.
The dishes (pork ribs, grilled fish, seasonal vegetables, etc.) are too plentiful!
So no desserts....
the red wine in pitcher wasn't great for my taste, the next time the sauvignon blanc was excellent.

If you like grease and fat (even on the tip book) then this is the place to come! Don't expect anything tasty, the dog on the patio looked better than the food tasted! One good thing other than the nice view I have to say about this restaurant is that they have lovely towelettes, I thought about eating it as I was so hungry as everything served was completely inedible. Maybe myself and my boyfriend were both unlucky but we went for a shopska salad which we thought was ok (it's almost impossible to get the local salad wrong), the Ribs were just total fat, no meat whatsoever! The Sausage, chicken and pork hot plate was absolutely vile! It all tasted like grease, was fatty and had mostly gristle in the pork, we also tried the cheeses and they were tasteless! The waiter was pleasant, I shouldn't have felt bad telling him the truth about how bad the food was but he was very nice and accepting so I did feel a bit bad about speaking up, we tipped him only for his service.
Overall an absolutely awful first night out for dinner in Plovdiv, we loved our experience in the area but definitely do not recommend going to this restaurant! 🤢🤮👎🏼

This restaurant was recommended by our guide. From the terrace, the view over the city was really impressive indeed. We ordered a plate of spare ribs (18 lv), garlic bread and drinks. The waiter seemed to be a bit irritated by our presence in low season and covid-time (then why having stayed open?!). The plate that was brought to us 'looked like' ribs, but actually it was a mound of bones and cartilage bathing in fat. With soft French fries dipping in it. Disgusting! As for the garlic bread, it didn't taste garlic at all and had the texture of cardboard. I pointed out to the waiter that perhaps the cook had forgotten to add garlic in the bread but he insisted saying that it was bread with garlic butter. I asked if he wanted to taste by himself but he refused and left without saying a word. Apart from the view and a good beer, it was an unpleasant experience.

Delicious food, good service and great view. Pork ribs are the most popular dish at the menu and they were great. You should make reservation few days ahead, especially if you are going to visit it at the weekend.

Our best food experience in Bulgaria. Their chicken skewer was so tender and juicy. Best chicken ever! And the waiters are very friendly and polite. Also a great view point over the city. Must go when in Plovdiv! We will go back to try more dishes :)

Desperately searching for an open restaurant on a dark and chilly April Sunday night in Plovdiv’s Old Town, we stumbled into Rahat Tepe called by the inviting lamps at the unprepossessing door. We had no idea of its reputation and popularity. Or that once inside, we would find such rough charm and so much seating. And so began our introduction to Bulgarian tavern fare and my first Bulgarian beer (not bad at all!)
They were out of some items, but we sorted through the easy to comprehend photo menu and came up with a very tasty dinner. My wife sensibly went for a small starter. But our friend and I went head on with a generous plate of mixed sausages and a cauldron of stew which defeated us to finish. Our fellow diners at the surrounding rustic tables included families and friends, young people and older.
That night we were likely the only ones in Plovdiv that didn’t know about it, but I’m calling it a find. Obviously this was the place to be that evening.
