About
Maguro is a sushi and asian fusion restaurant in Zadar Old town. Our mission is to connect asian cuisine with mediterranian flavours. The biggest number of dishes in our menu is from Japanese cuisine, but we also have Thai, Korean and other Asisan cuisines. Preparing our dishes we mostly use groceries from small local farms, which guarantees quality. Tuna is our main grocerie and for all dishes we prepare we use blutail Adriatic tuna which is one of the best tunas in the whole world. We are lucky enough to have tuna farm a few miles from Zadar, so our sushu chef gets fresh tuna every day. Maguro team is waiting for you to come and enjoy in Asian fusion cuisine in Zadar city center.

After walking past the evening before, we stumbled on this absolute beauty! Whilst walking past the restaurant was full and peoples food looked fantastic so decided to visit the next night. We didn’t book (which was a mistake) as we had around a 30 min...wait to be seated but you can reserve a table online. The wait was fully worth it, as the food was fantastic, probably the best we had in Zadar. The setting was very nice with lit tables and the service was great. Fully recommend this restaurant.More

I adore the sushi at this place. Orderd buns are also wonderful and super tasty. Price is affordable and fair. I would recommend it!

After the staff told us to wait for the table we waited for 20 minutes and when the table finally opened the waitress placed a group of people who came 15 minutes after us and they only waited for 5 minutes! Then they spilled soy...sauce on the table, the sushi was really not good, but definitely the worst part of the experience was the unpleasant, unprofessional and rude staff!More

We had fantastic food at Maguro. We had the Korean Fried Chicken and the Kung Pao Pork which was absolute bliss. With homemade kimchi which was terrific! The whole dishes were absolutely enjoyable. We also had the Dan Dan noodles which were also very good!...We also had the ceviche which was extraordinary. The Panko prawns were also good. Edamame top. If I could have eaten more I would have ordered more. If we go back to Zadar will definitely visit again. I don’t know why people are complaining about the food here. Chef is top! The waitress was also very lovely and the service was top.More

I was quite disappointed with this. I'd seen the good reviews and high praise and had it on my list of places to go when in Zadar. Tried to do a walk in, stood at the door for ten minutes with waitresses walking by and...nobody approached us. Eventually had to go and ask someone, only to be told that there were no tables. Booked a table for the following night. Arrived and stood at the door for around 5 mins, eventually the couple behind us were brought to their table. I got so annoyed I went up to the counter saying that I had a reservation and have been waiting for someone to approach me. Eventually sat down, food and drinks were good. Nothing special but nice. Slightly inaccurate to what they are meant to be. Korean chicken is not actually made the way Korean chicken is, Futomaki was actually makizushi. Just small things that made us sort of confused. The food was good, drinks good and the waitress we had assigned to us was lovely. Management seriously need to sort out the layout of the staff. All the waitresses looked to be worked off their feet (the only explanation I can give for why so many of them walked by us while we were standing there). There was one girl standing at the door and when I called her over to order drinks (as our assigned waitress was busy serving the other fifteen tables), she arrived and was totally lost and didn't know what to do. Eventually our waitress arrived to sort the confusion. My advice to management is to hire another waitress to work as the place is way too busy to be operating with the current amount. The terrible service ruined the experience for me and I wanted to leave within 10 minutes into arriving. It's worth noting the waitress assigned to us was lovely and really pleasant, but it couldn't make up for they shockingly bad service we got. You guys get way too many covers to have so few staff. We were also told when booking that it could be only be outdoors, but we saw several people arriving without a reservation being told they could have an indoor table. Seems there is absolutely no management or front of house presence at all.More

Ordered two sushi bowls - one with salmon, one with tuna. The descriptions of these were completely different on the menu, but the waiter said that only the type of fish would differ. Food arrived, shrimps were missing, cucumbers were missing, peanuts were missing, mayo...was missing. Told the waiter. She replies impolitely “I do not write the menu”. She refused to do anything about it. Then lied and said she would talk with a colleague inside and come back with a solution. She never returned. Upon payment she didn’t mention anything. Food was good, however, missing different parts.More

Among all the menus with the same cuisine, Maguro stands out with sushi and Asian dishes. My wife is vegetarian and options in Croatia have been very limited. She was thrilled with the Dan Dan noodles and an avocado roll. I enjoyed the local tuna...steak served with sesame spinach. I thought it came with rice, but it was served with a crispy rice cracker.More

Visited for lunch while on holiday with friends. Had chicken pad Thai and Korean style bbq chicken with kimchi. Both were excellent. Inside very nice and waitress was very pleasant. A nice surprise even if we did originally go in for sushi!

The restaurant has a lovely location and a tasteful design. Our waitress was lovely, very kind and service oriented. Unfortunately the food wasn’t too our liking, at least not all of it. The main problem: SALT The tuna starter had a nice texture and tasted...good. The spicy Edamame beans were sprinkled with salt and thereby extremely salty. We could not eat them. Even the beans in the bottom of the cup were very salty. The green chicken curry was sweet, balanced and very good. I loved the sticky rice. The next course was their best seller, the korean fried chicken was also very salty. We could enjoy the background taste and definetly see the potential, but unfortunately it was ruined by just too much salt. The last course, springrolls, had a nice texture, also salty, but was neutralized by the sweet dipping sauce. We presented our complaints, at it was forwarded to the chef. Hopefully it will be taken into concideration. Conclusion, order a lot of table water because this is food is salty.More

The waitress was rude and unhelpful and it definitely put a dampener on what would have been a nice meal, wine was lovely too. Other staff seemed nice so maybe just avoid her (blister on her lip). We She was rude to the table next...to us too when they enquired about a peanut allergy for their child. She said they buy their sauces in though and she wouldn’t check with the kitchen on allergies, she just said I don’t know a few times even though she said someone working there was coeliac and could eat dishes there. First time in our 10 day trip to Croatia that we didn’t leave a tip and first night in Zadar. We thought it’d be nice to just find somewhere that took our fancy but will definitely book somewhere for our last night. Husband said steamed buns were only okay but the spring rolls and sushi were lovely.More

Found this place by chance while walking around the town and I'm so glad we did! The place is gorgeous and the food is even better! We tried a whole range of food and couldn't fault a single piece. The tuna tataki was insane and...the Mediterranean maki was the best we've had outside of Japan. All of the staff were lovely, especially Emma who was so friendly.More

We love Japanese food, especially if had heavier dishes with meat or potatoes. This is lighter and feels healthier. Great menu choices of appetisers, mains and sushi. Nicely presented, tasted great and reasonable price. What more can you ask for?! Great to find it here...in Zadar and would happily go back. We enjoyed a simple selection of poke bowls, spring rolls and sushiMore

Upon discovering this gem last summer (2021) we have repeatedly gone back. Tucked off the main street in Zadar, it offers a lovely atmosphere. The seafood is fresh, the menu offers a variety of options (including a few vegan dishes), so you never get tired....It is a bit pricier.More
