My wife and I went to Zadar on a cruise ship. During our trip, we discovered a restaurant by asking local people in the neighborhood. When we asked for the best restaurant, many people suggested Martinac. My wife ordered the Branzino, and I had the veal steak , with a Great suggested white local wineThe food was incredibly delicious, and surprisingly, it was also very affordable. I recommend you visit this place for a quick lunch or dinner. They also have a lovely outdoor dining area with beautiful vineyards overhead.

Cozy place and great fresh fish

Calm and cosy. This place is an oasis away from the crowd and noise of main tourist restaurants in Zadar. We had scampi buzara and grilled sea bass. The fish was fresh and well cooked, really delicious. The waiter was very professional and in tune with the calm atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Mediterranean dinner in a very pleasant patio

We decided on this restaurant for a family dinner and we were completely right. We ordered a spectacular nero risotto with the rice just right and a great flavor. Also a very good sea bass with shrimp and a very delicious but slightly hard stuffed squid with pesto sauce. Very good price for the quality. It deserves to return!! Furthermore, the service was downright pleasant and courteous.

Nos sentimos estafados. Pedimos calamares fritos para la niña y nos cobraron como si fueran calamares rellenos de camarones, carísimos (la cuenta estaba escrita en croata pero la traducimos). El servicio fue muy lento aunque no había casi nadie. / We felt ripped. We ordered for our little kid a dish with fried calamari and french fries and charged us much more expensive than any other dish in the menu. This dish was not on the menu because they have more elaborated recipies in it. It was almost empty but service was very slow.

Poor quality for the price

The outside terrace is really nice, and the girl who served us was real nice and polite, but the overall experience was not: 1. Food tasted really instant (supermarket quality) and way to far from Adriatic sea taste. 2.We had few courses, plates were not changed. Salad served on dessert plate Whole thing felt like really simple and cheap restaurant, but it wasn’t cheap at all. If you are looking for something domestic, authentic and honest- this is not the place. Croatia and Zadar have much more to offer.

So: After the mostly very positive opinions and the homepage with the provocative "food porn photos", we decided to visit the "Konoba Martinac". The ambience and the two nice little courtyards are very inviting. However, the food-wise, the Orata tartar was disappointing both visually and in terms of taste and, like the mixed mini mussel plate, was "over-priced". I'm happy to pay for good quality - but unfortunately this wasn't it :( "Finest dining", as the homepage claims - there's another way!

Hidden Gem

Off the beaten track this restaurant is popular with locals. Indoors it is a little bit claustrophobic but the two terraces are very cosy. Staff are somewhat inattentive but friendly and accommodating. We had fantastic tuna, perfectly grilled to our order, and very tasty pork. Starters were nice too, although slightly too expensive. Make sure to book a table.

Outstanding homemade gnocchi with fish and seafood. The St.Peters fish with homemade gnocchi with squid and trouffle sauce was fantastic! We went for a second time after the homemade pasta with pestosauce. This place deserves a Michelin star by far - and it is not expensive 😛👍

Great food, great service.

Nice restaurant, very authentic, beautiful patio in the back. We have the black risotto but i saw other table had grilled seafood platter that looked and smelled better. I will order the grilled items next time. Very nice staff and service.

Living up to our favorite role

The food (gnocchi and pasta + starter platter) was very tasty. Don't be put off by the size of the portions! It looks small, but it's not very filling! Our request for a mixed starter platter was accommodated very well. It's totally hidden in a small alley, but has 2 beautifully overgrown rooms/courtyards. Great atmosphere. Unfortunately, like everywhere else, prices have gone up a lot.

Better for dinner. We went on a very hot day and could not be on the patio, but sure for dinner it will be very nice, we ate inside with a fair air conditioning. The tuna was really good, just like the octopus salad, the pork with mushrooms good and the black risotto really didn't have the texture of risotto, the rice was less cooked and it was really good

Hidden gem in Zadar 😀

This restaurant is a gem! They have two lovely gardens where to eat in the shade, surrounded by loads of plants. The food is some of the best I’ve tried in Croatia! So delicious 😋 I had the seabass fillet in shrimps sauce and it was excellent. The wine was also very tasty. And the service absolutely brilliant! I would definitely go back next time I’ll be in Zadar. Thanks to the amazing staff 😀

Good food , nice atmosphere, but messy service

Good meat, vegetables could be more, good wine. Just the service was not great. We paid for a water and bread we didnt get or ask for. He should better start using a computer. The wine we ordered wasn't there anymore, so as alternative he advised the most expensive one. Of course I could have said no, but this is not the way to do it. The wine was average of taste.

The lovliest Konoba

We stopped at Konoba Martinac on our trip in Croatia. They have a lovely garden with a green leaves pergola and many plants along the ancient walls. The food is very tasty and surprisingly well presented. They have a selection of very fine wines. The staff are kind and smiling. Very happy about this lunch.
