As a Starter we had a very fresh and delicious Shrimptartar, which was recommended to us by the waiter. The waiter got us seasalt, pepper, pumpkinseedoil and bread with pumpkinseeds while we were waiting for the Starter. The whitewine was very light and perfect matching to the Starter and Maindish, which was also recommended by our waiter! The location is very romantic, you have the opportunity to sit near public or hidden in a small "garden". We sat in the Garden and felt very comfortable, it had an mediterran touch and was very romantic with the candles and flowers! The Maindish was a lobster, cooked with Spaghetti, onions, garlic and fresh Herbs. The Service was great, too We are looking forward to come again for the mouthwatering lobster! !

Me and my boyfriend were strolling split for a place to eat yesterday. We found the most cosy little street and saw this restaurant on it. We asked for a table and was told it was fully booked. But the amazing hostress said We could sit at the bar Noor on the same street, and if a table gets ready she will let us have it. And I am glad she did. The bar had an interesting and unique list of drinks with a professional bartender. The atmosphere was chill and I loved the vibe of it. There was also great music with covers of old goodies. Our favorite drinks were bitter rose and tiki (between 70-80 kuna).
We then got a table at the restaurant, and were seated at the beautiful backyard. We suddenly felt a lovely smell and I exclaimed "if I could eat this exact smell I would". And then it came: our starter Adriatic tuna. We had found the source of the smell and it tasted just as amazing!! It was hands down the best taste I've had in croatia. Sizzling sesame oil and olive oil together with som spicy green sauce. If you go to this place, you have to try it.
For mains we had the veil and the tomato sauce pasta. The veil had good and well thought out sides that blended to a really delicious taste. But if you want medium or rare you will have to ask, because my boyfriend got it well done as default.
The pasta tasted like arrabiata with a slight sting of spiciness. The waiter told me there was a little bit of sriracha in it. I looooove spicy food and it is hard to come by in croatia. But I couldn't feel much of the spiciness.
And lastly, the service!! We were so pleased and taken care of. It felt like a really high end restaurant and I was even surprised when I saw the affordable prices when we got the menu since we really did get 5-star service of everyone working there.
We will come back next time we are in split, and have recommended it to our friends.
Thank you Mazzgon.

I always look for authentic and non-touristy spots, this one was beyond what I hope for. The most charming location off the busy streets of Split. Valentina our waitress was fantastic, she gave us terrific recommendations. I felt like it was truly homemade and the flavors and freshness was among the best. Incredible homemade bread With homemade butter and absolutely delicious olive oil. I ordered the recommended monkfish that was beyond delicious, my husband had tuna with a mango purée that was absolutely sensational. The gas next to us had a similar experience, they ordered the muscles and thought they were the best they’ve ever had. If ever back we will definitely be back!

We went to this lovely looking restaurant 4 nights ago. Really looking forward to it but unfortunately it was a terrible disappointment and an expensive one at that. The disappointment was mainly due to the arrogant and superior waiter. He was condescending when we decided to go for the cheaper wine than he suggested but basically his attitude in everything was bad. Also there wasn’t sufficient food. My husband and adult son ordered a main course each which arrived in one bowl consisting of 6 mussels two that weren’t open and 7 Venus clams in a tomatoe and onion sauce. Fortunately the olive oil was delicious with the bread. We have been travelling in Croatia now for 4 weeks and this was the worst service and meal we experienced. What a shame.

Made a reservation, but they didn't pen it down so eventually ended up waiting for an hour. We did get a shot of their homemade drink which was nice.
Waiter was quite rude: at the end insisted we'd pay 10% as a tip, told one of us 2 starters for one was too much and was very 'in the face' when talking to us.
Food in general was quite moderate, but OK. Food portions were rather small and seasoning was lacking in several dishes. The cheese and meat plate was a big portion and good in flavor.
Beware of some increased prices compared to their website (10-30HRK).
We expected a bit more considering they are mentioned in the Gault Millau guide.
As for the seats, we were sat outside. It was too loud because of the music from the bar on the other side of the street and large crowds would pass by down the already small street, bumping into our chairs.

We just so happened to walk past this treasure of a restaurant in the heart of Old Town Split. The family owned restaurant was idyllic, we were greeted by the owner who gave us a detailed description of the menu and ended up recommending a seafood pasta, It was delicious. We were so happy we came and enjoyed this wonderful meal. If you are in Split you must go, you won't regret it!

Mazzgoon is very charming setting that drew us in, however the rest of the evening was a bit disappointing. There are a few tables out front and a lovely courtyard in the back. The menu is fairly small and locally sourced ingredients are used. We ordered 3 dishes and all three were disappointing; the muscles were grainy and it was a very small portion especially for the price, the Cubano sandwich was dry, and the risotto had a lovely flavor but was undercooked. I do hope it was just an off day as the location and setting are truly charming. I would not return based on the experience though.

Location can’t be beat, charming alley way, would be great for a drink and an appetizer maybe but not worth a stop for a meal. Food was extremely sub par. Soggy, flavorless, and almost nothing seemed like it was prepared that day. I guess with a central location like that the food doesn’t need to be super competitive, but for the price it was very disappointing. Server was attentive and apologetic about the food, but made a comment that suggested we were just picky eaters, a little off putting.

Visited when passing the venue which is busy and had dinner in the courtyard
Food is ok a little different and portions are not large.
Bread is brought to the table then charged under a cover charge at 20 kuna a person .
A nice venue and service was good however let down by poor toilets with tap almost hanging off which doesn’t really fit in with image of fine dining.

Went for a another nice night out in split, having passed this place before we thought we would give it a go. Wish i hadn't, the staff are incredibly rude when we said the swordfish was bland and tasteless we were snubbed off and treated incredibly poorly. The other people i was with had nicer food but the three of us who had the swordfish all said it was tasteless. At 165 kuna i was expecting more and when we gave constructive feedback we were insulted and my partner was ignored by the owner. If you cant take any feedback negative or positive dont run a business. I would personally eat elsewhere there are many other places to get filled up more and for half the price. I also stopped at a street vendor to get fed properly rather than the light portions and expensive prices. A simple SORRY rather than arrogant and aggressive response we had. Male owner is also a coward he ran off when we complained.

We were actually looking for a different specific restaurant. The owner of Mazzgoon saw us looking like typical lost tourists and offered too help us find where we were looking for even though it wasn't his place. We decided to give his restaurant a chance since he was do nice to help us find a different restaurant. We are so glad we did! We let him pick our meal for us and he really knocked it out of the park! The fresh Tuna sashimi was excellent and the fresh Sea Bass was was perfection. This is one of the best restaurants that I have patronized in Split and the food did not disappoint. The staff were so very friendly and accommodating and made our visit special. Will definitely return when we visit Split again.

Discovered this restaurant on the list of best restaurants to try in Split. The website was quite intriguing yet not overly informative. I liked that it described itself as new creative Croatian cuisine and a family owned and operated. It is tucked away at one of the side allies so if you're not looking for it or just happen to stumble upon it you might not find it.... but you should. We were seated in the interior courtyard which was a beautiful and comfortable setting. We were a group of 5 and since the menu isn't too elaborate we were able to try, sample and share many dishes. The pasta dish we initially wanted wasn't available but the second pasta option was which was delicious and well prepared. All the meat and seafood dishes were also very unique and creative while offering wonderful flavors. The service was very friendly and attentive and the group agreed that it was one of the best dining experiences we've had on the entire trip (and we dined in many placed over the 3 week vacation). I/We would certainly return in the future. Reservations encouraged.

Went here last night based on a recommendation, what a disappointment! It is a small menu but four items were unavailable, maybe could understand 1 or 2, but on a menu this size 4 is just bad kitchen management (my husband is a chef and we have had our own restaurant). The waiter was uninterested in us once we didn't order a bottle of wine, I asked for a recommendation for a glass but got a shrug of the shoulders, we waited over 10 minutes for 1 small beer. How anyone can say the risotto was great I struggle to understand, for 21 euros I expected a bit more than 6 shrimps in a very tomatoey sauce.

Already the courtyard location sets the tone for a great meal with vintage vibes and cool cutlery. The waiting staff is much friendlier than in most Croatian restaurants and attentive to their guests. The charcuterie box with local cold cuts and cheeses is a great starter to share. The Tecada, a local soup-like fish and seafood dish is absolutely wonderful, full of flavors but not overwhelmingly fishy. The black slavonian pork steak was also a hit with radish in several forms.
