I enjoyed Sobremesa's take out services while stranded in Antigua during the C19 crisis and they, like other restaurants, could only do home delivery. The Tremendous quality of the steak and pizza and other things I enjoyed were especially excellent. amazing any facility can offer...such excellent cuisine even in a delivery status. The proprietor, Alex, is a veteran, especially knowledgable restauranteur, painter, writer and other things & making only exceptional contributions to the community.More

We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal here. It seems odd to focus on the artwork on the walls but it certainly added to our experience, not least because the maitre d’ was responsible for some of it and halt to chat. What I remember most...about my main (pan-fried duck) was that the meat was a well-judged pink and very tender, which isn’t as easy as it sounds to achieve, but, more importantly, the whole plate really came together (babiest of asparagi especially) such that I cleared the whole gubbings, which is actually quite rare for me.More

My wife and I had a lovely meal at Sobremesa Restaurant. The service was excellent and the food very nicely prepared. In fact, the breast of chicken was one of the most succulent we have ever eaten. What truly impressed both my wife and myself...was the restaurant giving food to hungry children that entered. Instead of running them away, which unfortunately is all too common, the waiter at Sobremesa handed each child a small package of food. We witnessed this generosity two separate times while dining. After the second time the waiter gave food to the children, we called him to our table to express our approval. He told us that the owner has a policy of feeding the hungry and that no one is turned away. To the owner and employees of this wonderful restaurant: Thank you for making our world a little bit better!More

Six of us had dinner at Sobremesa a couple of nights ago. Nice wine list - great steaks and people loved their chicken breast. I had the rare unicorn steak- perfectly cooked. Sauce was a little sweet for me but accented the beef since it...was plated under the meat. My spouse had the chipotle steak and felt the same - also nice and rare. The baby potatoes were nicely cooked, as were green beans. For dessert we made some of the exotic ice creams- strawberry’s and merlot for me and chocolate and peanut butter for my spouse. They are fantastic. We had a really nice conversation with Alex the owner and chef. This is a place not to be missed in Antigua!More

I'm really glad you liked it (despite the sweetness of the sauce) and enjoyed your evening. You're welcome back any time!

I’ll start this out by saying that we’ve worked as chefs, raise/grow/make most of what we eat, and alternate between Michelin-starred and street food meals (see Heimwehwalliseri on IG). We chose the restaurant based on reading the menu and were excited by the well-conceived dishes....We should have known something was off when we saw the gaudy decor. The chef was making paintings and promoting his books all night in the dining area. He also listened to our conversations and provided unsolicited advice about preventing Alzheimer’s by switching to flouride-free toothpaste. Had he stepped into the kitchen or looked at what came out, he would have noticed that the duck skin wasn’t crisp, the veggies had end-pieces in it, and that one of the sauces had jelled to a jam. No huge disasters, but focusing on the food rather than his other interests would have taken the meal from good to great.More

About the food, I'm very sorry you didn't like it. About my painting, that is what I do. That gaudy decor is an art gallery. I had been commissioned to paint Alexander the Great in three days and was working to meet deadline. About listening...More

This restaurant is run by a US ex-pat who married an Antiguan architect. He also paints and writes "pot-boiler" novels (both "fantasy" and "realistic."). We had a great meal, a great discussion with both the owner (working on his next painting at the table next...to us) and his wife, who joined him for dinner. We admired his paintings and even bought (and read!) one of his books. The food (and we hear the cocktails, though we did not have one) are reason enough to go; but the multi-art experience and the chance to chat with the owner, make it a truly outstanding and unique experience.More

I ate here twice. For the first meal, I had the Croque Monsieur, which was very good (excellent Gruyere cheese and ham along with mushrooms). For the second, I had pizza and my wife had octopus salad. The pizza was amazing - thin crusto, pesto...sauce instead of tomato sauce, prosciutto, and caramelized onions. The octopus was, unfortunately, overcooked. For dessert we split one of the dozens of gourmet ice cream flavors. The owner/chef, Alex was in the restaurant both times we were there and was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. We'd definitely eat there again, just not the octopus salad.More

Once in a while, the culinary gods just have their way of saying that this is where I need to be! The wait staff & chef/author/painter/renaissance man were superb! I loved the counsel of the chef re: duck breast paired with an Argentine Syrah finished...with mango/cardamom sorbet. I bought one of his 20 books also. A unique & special experience!More

We stumbled across this restaurant just off the main square and what a find it was. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, the food was just stunning. We had chicken with banana, a fabulous ratatouille and steak in a mildly hot black currant sauce -...all wonderfully cooked and seasoned. After a gap we then had equally wonderful puddings. This is right up there with the best food wise. The owner is very friendly and was working on his paintings while we were there. Our only disappointment is not having another night here to go again.More

Thank you. We have had a lot of clients say that lately. New diners are coming in specifically to tell me that, and so her strange review is a type of advertizing.
