We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and, now that we've been there, we'll be sure to try it again, and again. Once seated, my wife requested a glass of the Macon-Lugny Chardonnay - which she enjoyed very much, and I requested a glass of the Domaine Houchart red blend (oops, I just looked at my... More

We come to Nantucket frequently and were looking forward to trying Fifty-Six Union since they are one of the few restaurants that are open year round. Ended up being very disappointed in the limited menu and overpriced selections. Since I don't eat veal or lamb my choices were sirloin steak, ravioli, swordfish or fluke. Really? And only one steak selection?... More

A bit out of the town but worth a short cab ride, this long established restaurant is under rated. The food is really excellent, prepared and served by thoughtful people. The busy chef even took the time to sit down with us to understand and help my wife who suffers a food allergy, by preparing a special a special solution.

Just had a terrible night at this restaurant. Waiter delayed until we were nearly done with the salad to come by with pepper for it. The swordfish was bland and not cooked. The waiter said they were out of tea, then, when we pushed, he brought us tea, but the wrong kind. He said he would comp our dessert, and... More

We've been going to the island for twenty years, and had (sadly) never been to this restaurant before. It will now be a staple moving forward. We LOVED the food, our server Taylor was excellent, and overall it was a great atmosphere. For those who get cold sitting outside, they even have blankets that you can use if you get... More

I have been to this restaurant more than a few times. It is a solid walk from the town center, but it also has parking for customers and is situated on your way into town so you can avoid the cobblestones. I've eaten there as a solo and the bartenders have always been nice and the crowd at the bar... More

I had the fresh fish, my husband had the hamburger with delicious pommes frittes and our guest had the veal. My husband had clams casino, I had the beet salad and my friend had the wedge salad. Everyone raved about the food. The server, Basil, was very professional and courteous. He consulted the chef about a food allergy, and the... More

I visited this restaurant during the 3rd week in July while visiting a friend who lives on Nantucket during the summer and fall months. The three of use were issued to a table next to the bar which we asked to change since it was not conducive to a private and quiet conversation. We were moved to another table in... More

Growing up in NY, I am a used to great food of all types and impeccable service and decor. 56 delivered on all fronts! I was fortunate to visit with my extended family, so I had the opportunity to taste many of the dishes, and each were amazing in their own way. I of course started with the mussels, which... More

The restaurant is about 1/3 mile away from center of town, which is good if you want to get away from it all and almost guarantee a table. Opt for outside dining as the inside i loud and very very cold. Courtyard and outdoor tented table for 10 adorable and would be very convenient for a large group not wanting... More

Celebrating their 17th season, Wendy and Peter Jannelle are proud of what they have created at Fifty-Six Union. The most recent addition is the outside space. Completely protected, with a full bar, the atmosphere is playful and fun. Dinner is served nightly (year-round) at 5:30 PM, offering Peter's House Specialties that include the best Curried Mussels in the World! Peter is a '78 graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. His career started by working on The Holland America Lines. Afterward he came to Nantucket and became the chef de cuisine at the now defunct India House Restaurant. This is where he met Wendy. Wendy and Peter have been on the Island since the early 80's, and have worked in some of the best kitchens and dining rooms on Nantucket. Their two sons, Andrew and Blair, have both taken turns working in the Family Business. Andrew's interest has been in the kitchen, while Blair can currently be seen behind the bar, or serving on the floor.
