A celebration for our daughters birthday was beyond expectation. Entering the Andover Inn is like going into a miniature version of Downton Abbey. Our Table was reserved and all set with napkins, glasses and cutlery. Across the hall is where we went through the buffet...line. In most brunches, this would be enough as it had scrambled eggs, home fries, cut up melons, various pastries, & the best array of smoked salmon with all the fixings. Next came your choice of entrees: short ribs of beef, banana Foster French toast, burgers and BLT’s plus a few more choices. Even though we could have been rolled out there was a choice of three desserts: creme brûlée, cheesecake or chocolate cake. The full three courses was $29.95 and & $19.95 for the buffet and dessert. I’ve been to many brunches, but Samuels at the Andover Inn was my very favorite. See if you can get Michael as your server because he was knowledgeable, warm and funny without being intrusive.More

We ate dinner and breakfast here. The place was hopping for dinner and a bit slower, but the food (burger and cauliflower steak) was good. Nice service. Our breakfast was fast and good.

After visiting the Addison Gallery, my husband and I decided to have lunch at Samuel's. We frequently do dinner there, which has always been very good, but this was our first time for lunch. We sat at the bar, as always, (we were only ones...there), and right away could tell that there was confusion. No one seemed to know who was doing what. Two servers said they would be "right with us" (they weren't), and the manager finally asked us what we wanted to drink. I had to ask for lemon twice for my water, and she had to go to the kitchen to get lemons as there were none at the bar. Had to ask twice what the quiche of the day was. Another server came by and took our order. We each ordered the cup of soup and half sandwich. Then we waited, waited, and waited. There was only one other party (5-6) in the dining room, another in the side room (4), and another in the back room (couldn't see size). The server kept saying that our food would be "right out". Never happened. The server apologized saying the "kitchen was backed up" as there were "two large parties" and the "patio was full." Well, the only "large parties" we could see were those described above, and, the patio has only 4 tables! After 45 minutes, I finally spoke up to the server. She again apologized. The manager finally brought our food, apologizing, and saying that lunch was on them, That was very much appreciated. When we were finally leaving, the server was gracious and apologetic again, saying something to the effect that the kitchen was "not paying attention." That was for sure. We told her it wasn't her fault and that the kitchen needs new management. For a high end place as Samuel's, the wait and the disarray of the management of the kitchen is inexcusable. Not to mention that there was no bar management...really no lemons??Minor point, but it is a bar and they wouldn't have been able to handle a group that came in for drinks. For lunch at least, the restaurant needs to fix the overall kitchen management, and have a bar that's ready to serve no matter how many people are there. We will most likely continue to go for dinner, but this will be our last time for lunch.More

Where would we go to celebrate our 42nd anniversary? We live a short walk to the inn, but seem to forget about it. We went and had a nice dinner in a warm atmosphere. The service was great and so was the food. I especially...enjoyed my duck. Another nice point was the dining room wasn’t a raucous spot which I find to be the case in so many restaurants. Often you can’t have a pleasant conversation because of the loud conversations. The restaurant isn’t formal like it used to be before the renovations. We’ll remember to come here more often in the future.More

I want to rate this venerable bar higher, but every time I go, the bar folks disappoint us. Every bar between LA and Boston knows how to make a Paloma. Bob had no idea what it is, in his 30 years of experience...and was quite...rude about it.More

Great decor, professional atmosphere and staff. Broad menu with lots of tempting options. My claim chowder was really excellent, smooth with tender clams. My fish tacos were flavorful, could have used more spice and flavor but overall good. The sweet potato fries were soggy and...oily. Nice experience. Excellent waitstaff.More

Generally the food at Samuels’s at the Andover Inn is very, very good. It is also very NOT vegan in general. The plant-based choices have traditionally been few and far-between. This time, I decided to try the “cauliflower steak” -a misnomer to be sure. The...dish that arrived was not at all what I expected, and I was COMPLETELY DELIGHTED! This “steak” was half-head of a small cauliflower smothered in a red curry quinoa and greens! Perfectly executed, and medium-spicy, paired with a glass of red wine that the somalier recommended. I highly recommend this dish, and hope to see more Vegan options on the menu!More

Four of us met at Samuel's for lunch. After reading some of the reviews I was pleasantly surprised how efficient the service was. Admittedly, there wasn't a big crowed there. But the place was peaceful and there was no problem to hear each other. The...food was very good! Three of us had the clam chowder - one of the best! And then each of us had something different, from BLT to meatless burger and fish tacos. All very tasty. A pleasant lunch, although a bit pricey.More

I think Samuels would be a wonderful venue for you. We held a 50th Wedding Anniversary here and a Bridal Shower with approximately 60 people at each event and we were given a private room each time and the food and service... More
