To our family, Panda East isn't just another Chinese restaurant that serves food. It's a place full of memories that we won't forget - bringing kids to lunch on afternoons with grandparents, kind waitresses offering free starter soups and conversation, and the bowl of green candies that always seemed to be well-stocked at the front. When I learned that the restaurant would close on the 15th, a wave of nostalgia hit me. I have so many memories there, and it's really been a hallmark of my childhood.

I surely enjoyed some alone time at one of the most legit Pan-Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. Went here right before Independence Day, so the restaurant was very much in a holiday mode. The interior was representative of any Chinese-styled restaurant with grandiose flowery decor and intensive lighting. I was greeted by a middle-aged Chinese lady. TripAdvisor gave bad ratings for customer service, but I thought the waitstaff was okay. Maybe because I am Asian and did speak some Chinese so the lady’s serving style was considerably cultural for me. I even put my years-long of Chinese self-study into practice with her. I was being quite indecisive browsing the menu; it offered a wide selection of items, from polynesian rum drinks and fruit juice to noodles and sushi rolls! I finally ordered crab rangoons ($4.95), fried rice with eggs ($7.25), and honeydew bubble milk tea ($4.50). Food came out pretty quickly. It only took them 5 minutes to be served. Crab rangoons had a serving size of 6. These golden and crispy-looking rangoons encasing a rich admixture of cream cheese were Bonne Bouche when dipped in sweet and sour sauce. Fried rice is my childhood dish, and I was still let down by a few versions. That was not the case at Panda East—truly ambrosial cooking that’s reminiscent of home. My honeydew bubble milk tea had large-sized pearls and had an average taste. Cold water was provided at no cost and frequently refilled. If Panda Express were to be reworked, maybe this was what it would become. The bill was $17.87 with tax, which was affordable for one-person dinner. I decided to leave 18 percent for tip, making it $21.08. I would say this is a hidden gem of downtown Amherst because people typically dine in or order takeout at Oriental Flavor or Formosa for authentic Chinese cuisine. Besides, Panda East is located in a complex of local eateries away from the street. Top tips: Dishes were served in large portions, so do not trust your visual hunger and be ready to ask for some to-go containers. You should also try some diced chickens with Kung-Pao, according to the lady. Extremely student-friendly cost and great for group gatherings. Fortune cookie will be provided during payment.

Had dinner with a friend here while staying over in Amherst for the night. This is one of those pan-Asian places - is it Chinese? Thai? Sushi? The food is okay, the waitstaff grumpy. Dinner for two was just $32 before tip, so can't complain about that.

Possibly the biggest menu I have ever seen, there has to be something for everyone. I don’t recall every getting the Panda roll before, but it was wonderful with large portions of fresh fish. I’m a big fan of chewy texture and always get the Spicy Key West roll, which is made of conch. I don’t think it is the best sushi in town, but it is good quality, with good variety and they make a nice Polynesian drink.

The food was okay and not something extraordinary. They provide a large serving of dishes. So my advice is to order less number of dishes

We are all locals, but haven't eaten here in a couple of years. The pu-pu platter was greasy. The ma-la scallops were average. The Schezsan chicken was dry without any veggies. Just not worth going, especially with several Asian restaurants within a couple of blocks.

This is a better than average Chinese restaurant. The only strange thing I found was in a chicken dish, the cut up chicken had the skin on it making it sort of slimy texturewise.

This Chinese restaurant had great service and delicious food. As soon as you walk in the door, a waft of mouthwatering aromas wash over you and entice you through the entrance. The authenticity of the food is perfect whereas most of the nearby Chinese restaurants cannot compare.

Always a classic this establishment has catered to students for decades. Typical Chinese dishes abound as do fresh bar drinks. A place to celebrate or just meet friends for good cheap eats.

This used to be the best place in town for Chinese food and even sushi, but the last few meals have been so disappointing. Chicken in the General Tso's chicken that is more dough and grease than chicken. Fish and eel in the sushi that you can't taste. The restaurant does not feel clean any more. Our server was very nice, but the food was also slow to come. It's sad because this place was so great years ago.

We were quite disappointed in the meal. The wonton peanut sauce appetizer was doughy. The chef's Special Chicken dinner was monotonous with frequent fatty or tough chicken parts. It came only with a bowl of plain white rice. There are multiple other Asian restaurants in town.

Or any night of the week is a decent night for Panda East. The food is pretty but the scorpion bowls are even better. The service is on point, especially with all of the college students on Thursdays and Fridays.

I like this restaurant for good Chinese food with great prices. We enjoy it as a family. It is sometimes difficult to communicate with waiters.
