I must admit my wife and I dine out a lot and at a variety of restaurants of varying prices. The Federal is not inexpensive but I believe worth it. Granted, it is a bit daunting at first when arriving to a full bar with a mediocre musician playing at a volume too loud for the room, but those feelings... More

This is an upscale restaurant that does it right. Service is suburb, Atmosphere is elegant and the Food is so flavorful. I would go there over and over again. The management staff, bartenders and the Waitress Staff are so professional. Worth every penny spent.

The bar at the federal is a fun place to get together. The drinks are great and on select nights they offer free appetizers on silver spoons accompanied by live entertainment, usually an acoustic guitarist playing our favorites. If your in the mood for a more upscale evening I recommend the dining room and their 7 course tasting menu, it's... More

People rave about this place but I think it is entirely overrated. The dinner prices rival NYC restaurants but the quality is all small town Massachusetts, NOT even close to NY quality. Chopped salad came in tiny canning glass. Seafood smelled old, hamburger was greasy and pizza mediocre. Have family member with gluten allergy and they had nothing to offer... More

Extremely hospitable staff with great food and drinks. Upscale eloquent menu and pricing. What you would expect in a Newport or NYC. Our Investment Firm has our annual dinners there with great expectations which are always met by the management and staff. My wife and I have gone there for a small group dinner comfortably seated in separate function room.... More

There aren't a lot of linen table cloth places in western MA. If I wasn't going to go to Boston, NYC, or Providence for my romantic dinner for two, I'd go to the Federal. I love risotto balls, and the steaks are perfect. Why no fifth star? I waited half an hour (on a busy Saturday night, to be fair)... More

Able to make a reservation on opentable the day of. Very friendly hostess, bartender and wait staff. You certainly get what you pay for as the food is pricey but well worth it for a special occasion or nice night out. Interesting cocktail menu and a good place to try something different! We had the risotto balls for an appetizer.... More

Sometimes we will go here and have an amazing meal and other times we will go and it's sub par. On several occasions the food has been overly salty. Wine list needs a little help. I think some of the wines offered are not the best.

Description
Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. Under the management of its owners, the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new American” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. The restaurant enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.
