There aren't a lot of linen table cloth places in western MA. If I wasn't going to go to Boston, NYC, or Providence for my romantic dinner for two, I'd go to the Federal. I love risotto balls, and the steaks are perfect. Why no fifth star? I waited half an hour (on a busy Saturday night, to be fair)... More

Able to make a reservation on opentable the day of. Very friendly hostess, bartender and wait staff. You certainly get what you pay for as the food is pricey but well worth it for a special occasion or nice night out. Interesting cocktail menu and a good place to try something different! We had the risotto balls for an appetizer.... More

Sometimes we will go here and have an amazing meal and other times we will go and it's sub par. On several occasions the food has been overly salty. Wine list needs a little help. I think some of the wines offered are not the best.

Visited the Federal last night with my friends from Florida!! Dinner was outstanding as well as the service.. Half orders are more than generous.. It was packed for a Monday night!! The bartender and chef went out of their way to make us Brandy Alexander's !!

Nothing less than top-notch...setting, service, food. No guy had a tie on, but it's dressy, and a reminder that there's more to dining out than chains. Pricey but worth it. Classy, special occasion dining. But also not a soft-lighting, candlelit hushed place...in a big old home, it's comfortable and conducive to conversations and fun times. There's also a nice, casual... More

Growing up in the area, my family used to frequent this spot when it was called The Federal Hill Club. It was one of my favorite places to go because it was unique and provided great dining. Back to visit family, my sister suggested we go here. I was curious and doubted it could match the experiences lodged in my... More

The food was excellent yet the prices are too high. Service was ok would expect a little more for this kind of place. The cotton candy before desert is a fun touch.

I think what is the best in this restaurant is the service. Food was delicious and we had a really good time.

Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. Under the management of its owners, the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new American” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. The restaurant enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.
