My family and I live up the street from Boatyard and have dined there several hundred times, never a bad meal. Their menu has a wide variety of fair but my favorite is their daily specials. In the fall they usually offer oysters for a Buck each which are Plump & delicious (Patty's Fatties). The owner is hands on and can be seen many mornings having breakfast in the restaurant. They set up a huge tent in the front parking lot for safe social distancing witch adds a level of protection to diners. Last time we ate there they were wiping down everything between diners including the salt and pepper shakers. You can't go wrong with boatyard:)

My wife picked the Boatyard for lunch on Valentine's Day and what a great choice that was. My wife and I have learned that a late lunch on " special" days when you can't get a table in the evening is a better choice. The Boatyard is a bit difficult to find as it is on the far side of a creek away from the downtown waterfront. Fourth and Chesapeake is where we parked. Seafood rules the day here as you would expect. Four oysters, each from a different region started our meal. The smaller one from Nova Scotia was my favorite. Our waitress helped us select our entrees encouraging us to try their Crab Cakes (of course) and the Cuban Shrimp Salad. Not every restaurant in Maryland does crab cakes right, but the Boatyard certainly does. Jumbo lump blue crab held together with just enough mayo and breading was what my wife was served. She chose a garden salad rather than fries, with a lemon vinaigrette that she thoroughly enjoyed. I love a salad with a creamy dressing which is how their Cuban Shrimp salad is served. The shrimp were sautéed and were served warm. The greens, corn, black beans and avocado were tossed with just the right amount of dressing. Really, really good. When I checked the wine list we hit our jackpot-The Infamous Goose from New Zealand. A classic grassy sauvignon blanc we both love; I can't tell you what else is on their wine list cause i didn't look. To finish this wonderful meal, my wife ordered a piece of red velvet Smith Island Cake accompanied by Irish Coffees for us both. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Smith Island Cake, I'll do a bit of name dropping here as it is a featured recipe in the cookbook published by the Voltaggio Brothers who are from Maryland. "Taylor H" was our server. She was charming, gracious, patient with my chattiness and her advice was very much appreciated. The word that best describes this visit is "perfect."

Ordered crab cakes/crab soup through Goldbelly. (Due to pandemic Goldbely was vague on delivery day/time). Called Restaurant directly and they were great in assuring that my order would be shipped/delivered overnight for birthday dinner. 5 stars. Crab cakes were absolutely delicious!! Would give 6 stars if possible. (Even the tartar sauce was great)!!!' Crab Soup was good. Taste was great but too much cartilage however. 3 stars. UPS delivery was slow and showed up almost 2hrs past delivery window. But can't fault restaurant here. Bottom line...For Crab Cakes, THIS is the goods and the real thing. Don't hesitate if you are looking for amazing Maryland style crab cakes. Would definitely order from here again.

Sorry, the crabcakes are really good but this is Annapolis so it's not hard to find good crabcakes. The location is funky (not near the water) and parking is difficult if it's crowded, which it usually is, but just about everything in Annapolis is difficult to park at. I will say that the service is EXCELLENT, but I just cannot stomach over $20 for a crab cake in a casual bar/restaurant, every if it is award winning. BTW, The caesar salad romaine was brown-edged (yuck), so I just had to say the meal was "average" at best.

JLCFN Thanks for coming to the Boatyard and your comments. We take all comments to heart. We wish we could sell our crab cakes for less. The price for our 6 oz crab cake with the very best jumbo lump crab money can buy is actually underpriced and is our lowest margin menu item by far. You can find sometimes find lower priced crab cakes using inferior (Indonesian crab meat or not jumbo lump) crab meat or smaller in size. Some restaurants sell 4 and 5 oz crab cakes. We keep our crab cakes underpriced to allow our many family customers to enjoy them and we choose not to lower the quality. We are sorry about the Caesar salad. Please send back any dish that doesn't please you-here or anywhere- we want you to. We hope you will come again so we can make sure your visit is superb. DF Owner

Ordering takeout, the scallops weren't cleaned properly and had sand/grit in them. To make matters worse, when opening a dish of crab cakes there was a service glove within the order! Asked to be reimbursed for the entire bill based upon the exceptionally poor service which borders on reporting to authorities for cleanliness and appropriate take out! Really, a glove? Wouldn't recommend on any level of quality of fare or service. Putting yourself at risk!

Corson We are sorry for your bad experience. Our scallops are one our most popular items and we sold a very large number of them that day. We examined the photo you sent and indeed there was a piece of a finger of a sanitary glove in one of the boxes. We greatly apologize for this. We have spoken to all of our kitchen staff about this incident. We are refunding your whole bill. And hope you will give us another chance to provide you a great experience.

This place is more for locals than tourists, although tourists do find it. It is located away from the busy downtown area across the bridge but walkable. They are often crowded because the food is so good. Their menu is varied with lots of choices, but we can't get past the excellent crab cakes. They are huge with almost a half pound of back fin crabmeat. They also serve the Smith Island cake with the traditional chocolate frosting but also other flavors. The lemon was delightful, and for Valentines' Day they offered red velvet cake with a raspberry coulis that was amazing. Parking is limited, but you can find spaces along the streets nearby.

They have the most interesting menu I have seen for a long time. This was a first visit for me for a special family occasion, but some of the younger party members had been there before. The service and food were great. The menu makes you want to come back and try more items. They have their own brand lager on tap which was mild and flavorful--not for IPA lovers. Some of us had an oyster shooter to celebrate. They have several at different prices so ask if you are a first timer. They list their crabcake as the best, which is a lot to say here in Maryland. Well, it is good, but not the best in my opinion. They might be in the top 10 , but there are better. It is very respectable. The crab dip and cheese sandwich is unique, so try it. The cream of crab soup is good tasting but it needed 2 or 3 times more crab to get it into the top ten. I did ask for, and received at no additional cost, some sherry which was appreciated and kicked up the flavor quotient several notches. If the spoon can stand up straight and stay there, there is enough crab in the soup. They do not offer a cup on the menu., which they should.

We went for dinner to the Boatyard Bar & Grill on a recent damp Thursday. We ate inside. The Boatyard is a noisy, a very noisy bar with a kitchen and a dining room attached. Normal conversation is impossible from a foot away. Keep your food choices simple. My crabcake was very nice but my dinner partner's scallops were tough. When we mentioned this to the waitress she explained they were simply overcooked. Don't count on anything from the cooks. Keep it simple. We were a group of 4 and when the bill came there were 5 entrees on the bill. An honest mistake I suspect but check your bill before paying. Our bill was of course corrected.Luckily my host had scanned the check. The Boatyard seems a lovely bar where you can get a nice snack. Not the place to take a group or date to dinner though. Not at the price.

903georgeg Thanks for coming to the Boatyard and your comment. Our scallops are a favorite and we wished you had sent yours back if they were overcooked. We encourage all customers to do so either here or any other restaurant. We are sorry the server made the mistake on the bill. We take all comments to heart and will review with our management team. We had lunch here on a busy Thursday afternoon. Both inside dining rooms and the bar, as well as the door eating area were packed. It took quite a while after we were seated for our server to arrive at our table. After we ordered a bottle of wine, we put in an order for two bowls of Maryland crab soup. The portions were generous and served piping hot...the only way soup should come out. It was very flavorful. My husband and I decided to share an entree spinach salad with a broiled crab cake. Let the wait begin. It took an extremely long time for the main course to arrive. The salad ingredients were fresh, but were overpowered by a very sweet bacon vinaigrette that drenched the salad. We have been coming to Maryland for the last 25 years, and I can tell you the crab cake at Boatyard is highly overrated. Nothing special for sure. Save your time and money and visit another restaurant in Eastport or Annapolis harbor. For the price, you can do much better for both food quality and atmosphere.

Dear Because We Care Thanks for coming to the Boatyard and your comment. We thoroughly review every comment with our team. I am sorry you were not satisfied with your crab cake. We sell 80,000 per year and win just about every award but everyone's palate is personal and different. As to the price crab meat has gone from $20 to $50 per pound and we are selling them at very little markup because we know our customers cannot afford a true market price. We hope you will return and try something else-maybe one of our seafood specials. There should not have been a wait after you sat down and we sincerely apologize for that. DF

Had a dozen oysters, a bowl of the yin/yang crab soup, and a crab cake sandwich. The crab soup was astonishing, the oysters were perfect, and the crab cake in my sandwich was "bristling" with crab. Perfect in every way, and the waitstaff was spot on. Paige was excellent, took note of my particular wants & needs, and followed to the letter. Nothing extravagant or ridiculous, I just like to have things a certain way with oysters, and not everyone takes note of what I'm asking. 100% right on-target, and this was right after a parade in-town that knocked their socks off. Very professional, very straightforward in every way.

They don’t take reservations! This restaurant was suggested to us, I honestly don’t understand why anyone would recommend it. We waited for over an hr and half, at a wonderful place a few doors down that offered wonderful beers and non alcoholic drinks. Upon been seated we were asked not to spend more than 90 minutes having dinner, about the same time as our wait time. We started off with the calamari which was not done well and cold. The dip was good however. One person had the black bean burger, they said it tasted like the Costco brand. Another had fish and chips. Fish a little too deep fried and the chips not done well and cold. Then another had the house speciality, crab cakes which were just average. The green beans served with the cakes however were perfect. This is not a place I would suggest or even go again.

We ordered The Plebe (4 crabcakes uncooked) for our Christmas dinner. I don’t normally take the time to leave a review, but decided these were so good - that I should say Thank You! The lump crab meat was delicious, very little filler - if any. I will definitely be back to buy these cakes for another time. I think these would make a great gift for crabcake lovers anywhere in the US!!

This is an Annapolis favorite and I have been there several times. A recent visit for takeout led me to stay careful - I went with crab cakes. They were dry, gray, tasteless. This was not fresh crab. It was frozen and old. Literally, almost inedible. This time around, though against my better judgment, I gave in and agreed to do a lunch takeout order for our group. The "fresh" fish sandwich was disgusting. A huge, almost grossly thick and big portion of some gray block of cheap fish on a roll with lettuce and tomato and a small amount of absolutely tasteless unidentifiable orange sauce. The portion was honestly disgusting. It conveyed to me that someone was trying to get rid of old defrosted fish, not be generous to a customer. Did I mention the fish was tired, old and gray. Am I exaggerating? Nope. I am confident it died of natural causes; and was netted from the ocean surface by a passing boat, not taken off a line. My husband had the fried flounder sandwich. A huge elongated fried mass of tasteless oily nastiness. And that is being nice. Coulda been fish. Coulda been chicken. Coulda been ...." Just awful. And is it so hard to make fries? All were greasy, wet and terrible. I was really sorry I came back to the Boatyard. And I won't return. Yes there are many positive reviews, but I speculate they are by weekenders and travelers who just want to believe that they had a good meal in Annapolis. The mood, the peacefulness, the fun of the area may lower standards. But for anyone with a discerning taste, this place can easily be seen for what it really is, a purveyor of cheap frozen fish and lousy fried crab. It is low grade.

Thanks for visiting the Boatyard and taking the time to write a review. We apologize for your unsatisfactory experience and we have reviewed your review with our management team. We can assure you that the fish is not frozen but fresh however your dishes obviously didn't come out the way they should. Carryout is tricky in that the timing of cooking and pickup/dining is crucial. Seafood does not travel well when sitting around so the timing is critical We think your dishes were cooked quickly and the time from cooking to your dining was too long. Please give us another chance and call me if you return at 410-336-8880 or dick@boatyardbarandgrill.com. D Franyo Owner

We drove from DC to Annapolis to check this place out. Yeah.. the line was a bit long and our wait time was about an hour, but it was well worth it. Service was friendly and quick. Food was absolutely delicious. I went with the halibut with veggies. The hubs tried the crabcake sandwich and the kid had the hand dipped chicken tenders with friends. Everything was so damn good. Even our daughter who is soooo picky, took serveral bites of her tenders. Food was tender, moist, and seasoned just right. Everything tastes fresh. For dessert, we shared the brownie sundae. Wow... just yummers. We highly recommend and will definitely be back.

The Boatyard Bar and Grill is located in Eastport just over the bridge from the city of Annapolis. It's the perfect location for a quintessential Chesapeake Bay food experience. Surrounded by everything nautical, the menu includes all the Bay favorites like crab soup, crab cakes, crab dip, well..you get the idea. There's also a selection of oysters prepared a variety of ways. We went for their version of Oysters Rockefeller and steamed mussels to go with our house margarita and a nice local IPA. All were great and, heads up, the margarita is not for sissies! We went a little further into the menu for some very nice fish tacos and a novel fish sandwich stacked with bacon and avocado. Seating is at a nautical bar, inside tables and an outside tent. Eat inside and enjoy the atmosphere. Be aware that this is not a cheap date. Our bill was $82 before a tip but if you are visiting Annapolis and want the real thing, the Boatyard is it.
