We have eaten here many times in the past and the food was good and the buffet was well stocked, however our recent experience was less then satisfactory. The buffet was almost empty. The food that was out was over cooked, and barely edible. This was a very disappointing experience, a pot of tea was ordered but only one cup was brought for 3 people.

Ordered some beef teriyaki and some chicken fingers. When I got home to eat them they were all severely overcooked. When I brought the food back to get a refund the manager was extremely rude and refused to refund my money and told me my food was not overcooked after reaching in the bag and handling the food and then giving it back to me telling me, the customer that I was wrong.. I will never eat here again and do not recommend it to anyone.

This place has consistent high quality.
General Tso chicken is always nice and crispy under the sauce and the deep fried chicken wings are excellent. You won't do better in Lewiston or Auburn.

Food was greasy, overcooked, tasteless and cold. I tried to warn my husband. It looks run down from the outside. We are locals.

We have been ordering through hunan house for a while now and have never had any problems but tonight we ordered take out and the rice in our combination plates had a bad taste and smell and when we call them to let them know they said there was nothing wrong with it, they wouldnt do anything to assist us basically accused us of lying and gave us attitude. Will never go through them again

I came here for lunch with a co-worker. I had read so many negative reviews about their buffet that I chose to order something fresh from their menu.
I ordered the shrimp with vegetables ($6).
It came out about 10 minutes later. It was a large plate for a lunch special filled with fried rice, shrimp, veggies, along with an egg roll.
I thought the meal was okay. There were plenty of shrimp in a nice sauce that did not seem too salty. The egg roll was nothing special though.
My co-worker thought his chicken lo mein was good as well.
I would come back again for something off the menu.

We do not live far from the Hunan House Restaurant and we have had a long standing tradition of ordering take-out from their restaurant for Christmas Eve. This year was no exception so we called in our order and after driving around and looking at Christmas lights we went to the restaurant, paid our bill and went home to eat. Once we arrived home I realized that two orders of teriyaki beef that had been paid for had inadvertently been omitted from our order. The restaurant was quite busy so I figured no big deal, I would call and tell them and since we were so close, my son could go get the wayward teriyaki beef. I called and explained the situation and was told that the order would be available in 10 minutes. About a minute after I hung up the Hunan House called me back. This time it was a different person who said they definitely remembered putting the teriyaki beef in our bag. I explained that it was not there and they continued to insist that it must be in the bag. Again I explained we didn't have the beef. Reluctantly they agreed to provide us the product we already had paid for...with an implication that WE were being dishonest and no offer of an apology from them for inconveniencing our Christmas Eve. Needless to say, we will be starting a new Christmas Eve meal tradition next year...the food is average at best, the customer service like a Rodney Dangerfield line...no respect.

Went for the Buffet for lunch to try a new place. Buffet was an interesting word as hardly any of the trays had food in them. The trays that did have anything in them were the dregs from an earlier time. I was very disappointed with this place. I asked if they would be filling the trays up soon and was asked which one I wanted filled!? Isn't that the point of a buffet? If I wanted something particular I would have ordered off the menu. The crab rangoon was the worst I have add, but the one shining star was the eggrolls, they were very tasty. The food was all lukewarm at best. I decided to have ice cream for dessert (my favorite) and I took one bite only to find that it was gritty, like it had been thawed and frozen again.

My husband and I attend an annual event in Hebron. By the time our day finishes, it is late and we are hungry. We know we can walk into Hunan House at 9:30 pm -- sometimes later -- and get a good sit-down meal before hitting the road back to Mass. We have been doing this each year for at least 6 years, likely more. Even though the tables are empty, the friendly staff welcomes us and seats us, and remembers us from past years. And while we are dining, a steady stream of take-out orders are picked-up.
On our most recent visit (July 11) we both thought the Hot & Sour Soup was GREAT -- rich and flavorful. We don't usually order appetizer assortments when we dine out, but this time we got the Pu Pu Platter for 2; all the expected items on it were fresh, tasty and well prepared. We chose 2 dishes: the Szechuan Beef was okay (not spicey, heavy on the celery, but flavorful sauce and good quality meat), but the Shrimp with Peapods was excellent (fresh shrimp, light sauce, crispy peapods). Everything we have ordered on past visits has been to our liking.
This is not a high-end place with fancy decor, and you won't get anything really hot/spicey if that's what you're looking for, but what you will get is reliably good food at reasonable prices, and some truly excellent surprises.

I try not to put down any restaurant but having as much experience as I do in the business I can't help it with this place. I ordered $30 plus of food for takeout and tried a couple bites of each thing before throwing it out. Not only was it bland but the fried items had so much grease in them. I've had bad Chinese food but this is the worst. I'd never go there again.

We got there n it was really busy so I hesitated to stay n eat, but we did anyways. I'm glad we did. The food was so good. We didn't wait long for the food, and they made us some awesome drinks. We will be back very soon.

The dishes my husband & I order most frequently are excellent - such as Mongolian Beef & Twice Cooked Pork. On the other hand I am somewhat reluctant to order from the buffet because the temperature of the food is not always as it should be - not that I am an expert as to what it should be. Hot & sour soup is also excellent. Orange chicken sauce is sensational, but the texture of the chicken is questionable. However it is definitely fresh. Is the decor wonderful? No, but I still prefer Hunan House to any other Chinese restaurant in the area, & that includes the 2 or 3 in Portland we have tried. Staff is excellent.

Well the first clue would of been when we walked in they turned on the lights . The second clue was i had cold tea to drink and the thrid was the food looked like it was setting out for days. The food was cold and darn gross looking. So i waited for them to bring some freash stuff out. And it to was over cooked and chewy And when an eleven year old said the food is yucky thats the forth clue and leave..
