Very good but with faults

Situated next door to the Sheraton Presidente in a very safe part of town, the Al Pomodoro has so much going for it and should easily be a 5 star rating but needs to sharpen itself up to be that. The initial look of the outside is not that nice but the entrance has been well done as has most of the interior. The menu is quite extensive, and well thought out in terms of options, but I was not offered a wine list and when asking about wines by the glass was only verbally offered Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio for white or Merlot, Malbec, or Sangiovese for red, with no further info or offer to see a menu. In this “class” of restaurant that’s dissolute a small annoyance. What was more annoying was my glass of Merlot coming cold - not just cool, but chilled. For my second glass, I switched to the Sangiovese to see if perhaps it was just the Merlot that was served that way but, alas, no. With both glasses they took lots of cupping and were really only approaching a good temperature when getting to the bottom of the glass. The Sicilian salad was very good, and a generous portion, however it could have done with fewer of the unadvertised soft raisins and more of the advertised gorgonzola. My “Italian” pizza was good without being stunning, mainly due to an ordinary base, and I’m not sure it would have been as good if I hadn’t paid extra to have basil pesto added. One of the pluses is that they offer a very wide range of toppings to add to any pizza, like my pesto. The service was not bad but neither was it particularly enthusiastic. I am not referring specifically to my own waiter but also from observation of all the waiters during my time there - something I could do dining solo and sat in one corner between the two parts of the dining area. My ratings for a restaurant are relative to their prices. Al Pomodoro is not expensive but it is above average for El Salvador so doesn’t rate 5 stars due to some let downs that a restaurant of this style and price bracket should not have. With some attention to these easily solved “issues” it can, and should, be an automatic 5 star rating. For now it’s only a 4

Bustling Italian eatery doing it right

Al Pomodoro was even better than I thought it would be, and I went there based on the glowing reviews. Our server was excellent, and the pizza options were so numerous that it was almost comical. I counted 24 different options of pizza. To be fair, I wasn’t planning on ordering a pizza, but so many other tables were getting it. I kept witnessing delicious pizzas being delivered all around my table. The pizza did conjure up some comparison to my experience in Italy, and that is saying something. I’m not saying it was better or equal, but the fact that it jogged a glorious memory is a testament to the restaurant.

Wonderful evening

My friend (local) & I (visitor) had a delicious meal. Attentive staff, comfortable, lively atmosphere, delicious cocktails & meal- we sat in the garden room ….which we loved! We both had the capriccio- mine was the eggplant-beautiful presentation & lite & delicious. We loved the thin crust pizza & fish options. Coffee & dessert to finish our meal. A wonderful experience all around!

An average experience. Amazing pizza.

This restaurant was conveniently located by our hotel. We had seen ads at the airport and placed it on our list to try. We were promptly seated without a reservation on a Saturday evening. That's as far as good service went. We were the second family seated in our section, before the room quickly filled. Every other table was serviced and eating before we even got our appetizers. Our waiter, Vladamir, is horrible at his job! He preferred to people watch and never checked on us. We had to call him over to order drinks, appetizers, and meals. We never even got drinks refilled. My niece ordered a pizza with appetizers and it didn't arrive until everyone else at our table was done eating dinner and only because we asked another waiter for it! Our meal presentations were beautiful, but temperatures were all over the place, and tastes were off. The only thing I would recommend is their pizza.

Worst Carbonara of my life

I ordered the carbonara and it was awful. It had no taste and as soon as I took the first bite, I knew I would get sick from it, and that's exactly what happened. My guess is that they're not using the right cheese and also didn't salt the water enough when boiling the pasta. It also looked like they added cream to the dish. I don't give it a 1 star because the appetizers and pizzas here are decent.

Surprisingly good!

We ate here two nights in a row. Pasta the first night, pizza the second. While prices are a little high for San Salvador, the food was excellent and the service top notch. Huge menu. Tastefully decorated.

The Italian Infusion.

The Italian Infusion I went to this place because it was my grandma's birthday. We couldn't decide where to go, but we wanted Italian food and we love this place. I love Italian food so I got lucky. Al Pomodoro is a place where you can relax, eat, drink and just have a fancy dinner or lunch with friends and family. Imagine being in Italy waiting for Italian food to come. The first thing I saw was the decoration. It was very fancy with the wine bottle and glasses on the table and the napkins. The lights were nicely distributed. The palette color was brown and white.There were pictures of pasta and people on the walls. The waiter guided us to our table and asked us if we wanted to start with the drinks and appetizer, then he gave us the menu. He took our order correctly, and there were other waiters around seeing if we wanted to order something else. The best part was the food we ordered. It was an entire bruschettas. It had tomatoes, toasty bread and a spicy sauce. It was soft and crunchy. I ordered a drink called naranjada. It was bubbly,soft and excellent. It was a refreshing drink. The interesting part was the pasta. It was cheesy and tasty. I could feel the herbs, the salt,pepper and the cheese texture. The pasta was fresh,soft and satisfactory to eat. For dessert,we ordered a tiramisu that had chocolate. It was soft, crunchy, And it had little chocolate chips.All the ingredients were of high quality. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience. I give it a 4.8 out of 5 stars. I gave it that rating because it was delicious and the ambient too but it was too hot. I recommend it because the service was fine, the decoration was so classy and the food was nice, elegant and tasty.I like it,it was like having food right from Italy.

Lost that feeling

Well the pizza was up to their usual standard but it seems that maybe because of how full it was they were highly inconsistent on the quality of all other entrées. Watch out before you lose your groove…

Caccio & Peppe!

This is an excellente decision for lunch or dinner. My favorite dish is mushroom ravioli in butter sauce. They have good wines and very good service.

Nice restaurant in San Benito. Food and service are very good. This is a true italian restaurant. I would highly recommend a "cartocho frutto di mare" pasta, I am not sure it is in the menu, so you may want to ask for it.

Great food, great variety to chose from. Very reasonble prices. Triple A service. Next door to the Sheraton Hotel in a great location. Very secure area. I strongly recommend it!!! Enjoyed the food and the time there.

Fantastic meal at great price

Excellent Italian Food

If you're looking for an Italian restaurant in San Salvador: this is it. It has amazing food, great service and it is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city. We ordered pizza and all I can say is it was delicious. The crust is thin as it should be. It was a perfect combination if ingredients and the tomato sauce was on point. Loved every bite. Totally recommended!

Wrong day to go!

We went on the day before Father's Day. It was packed, service was frantic and the noise was overwhelming. We ordered one starter(to share) and two mains. My main was lasagne whilst my companion ordered a dish which was uneatable - they didn't charge so there must have been something wrong with it! We plan to go again when the restaurant is less busy.
