This place reflects the atmosphere if old Kyiv of pre-soviet time, following the famous ukrainian movie "za dvoma zaytsamy", that can be translated in English like "following the two hairs". The cusine is extremely kyivian and authentic. High level of service, normal prices, cozy atmosphere,...strongly recommend.More

Many years ago, when I was working in Moscow, we came to Kyiv on a business trip. It was a bitter-cold December morning, the like of which we don't seem to get any more. We had finished our meetings and had a couple of hours...to kill before heading out to the airport for our late afternoon Aerosvit (remember them?) flight back to Moscow. So, we went to Andriivskiy Spusk (as I knew it then) and looked around. There was a biting wind coming down the mighty river Dnieper from mother Russia, I assumed, and blasting the Kyiv hills with icy Siberian air. We didn't get much further down than the Two Hares restaurant, one of the few original eateries on St Andrews Hill. We were welcomed with a shot of хреновуха, and settled down at one of the rustic tables. We ordered Borsch, with or without the extra letters, which came with trimmings: garlic-laced pampushkas, sala and pickles. The main dish was a wholesome borsch, filled with meat, beets, cabbage and other vegetables, finished off with a dollop of thick, sour cream, and sprinkled with dill. I had eaten borsch many times before, in the Taras Bulba chain in Moscow, and it was hit and miss. But this was something else! I don't know if it was the cold, the spirits, or the soup itself, but this goes down in my memory as my first authentic Ukrainian borsch. I need to go back again.More

Believe it or not, I was in the middle of a hastily rescheduled walking tour of Kyiv city centre. My guide, reviewed elsewhere, hadn't eaten since breakfast and I hadn't eaten at all so she suggested that we take a break to enjoy some real...Ukrainian borsch. The restaurant she chose we happened to be right next to, this one. You step inside and it has the delightfully musty smell of a museum - which it almost is, dedicated to the famous (at least, there) comedy Chasing Two Hares or Running After Two Rabbits.I had the real benefit of having this explained to me and I had a commentary as the film played on the tv. It's a funny story! The borsch was absolutely delicious and came with very tasty rolls with garlic oil. That turned into dinner and the soup was followed by chicken Kyiv. Don't be fooled by the apparently meagre size of the portion - it's quite enough and very satisfying. That, in turn, was followed by a small glass of what I only know as Kremlin's Diet which was a thank you from the restaurant. As we turned to leave, the owner introduced herself and we spent a few very pleasant minutes in conversation. It's a real pity that I couldn't be there for any of the upcoming celebrations. I would never have known about this restaurant otherwise but, now that I do, I feel the need to spread the word. Authentic Ukrainian cuisine is a treat anyway but no more so than in these delightful surroundings. Highly recommended.More

The beautiful historic street invited us to visit this intriguing underground restaurant. The cosy and elegant atmosphere was typically Ukrainian. The menu provided a good sample of delicious traditional dishes. All our requests were met and anticipated and we were hosted in the national language....The service was excellent, especially our waitress Anya, and the musical gentlemen who delightfully personalised the song choices and performed at the table. A very unique event for the first time visitors to Ukraine.More

We randomly found this place while wondering the streets of the old town, and we're so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we felt such a good vibe all around. The owner greeted us with open arms, and so did her really...cute pomeranian dog! Our server Veronika then took over, and really made us feel right at home! The atmosphere there is very chill, with a unique decor, and some French influence. The place even has live music at night, which we wished we had the chance to experience. The food was very authentic of Ukraine, and with a great variety. We opted to try various dishes, starting with the pike fish which had a unique taste, with some jelly wrapped around it and beets on the side. We also tried the lard, which was basically raw bacon, and it was decent. But for us, the highlight had to be the rabbit stew which was absolutely delicious and so tender! We also like the pork and beef dumplings with mushroom sauce. Overall, this was definitely one of our favorite meals on our trip to Kiev. The atmosphere, the decor, and the food were all great! But the reason I'm giving this place 5 stars, was the outstanding customer service we received from everyone there. Special mention to Larissa who is such a funny character, and a sweetheart! Oh, and the homemade flavored vodkas were amazing!!!More

Wonderfull setting, food, drinks, music and staff. We loved it. The wine I chose was €2.8, in Kanapa you pay 9.5 for the same wine. Good price-quality value!
