A must for any occasion if you are in Kyiv - OUTSTANDING

I have now been to the Ostannya Barykada several times since my first visit here in Kyiv in 2017. I have visited the Barykada both with family, friends and business associates and each time found it a great experience so I thought that it might be about time I wrote a review. Their menu has not changes much since my first visit, which really does not matter as this is why I keep returning to the Ostannya Barykada. Since my first visit the Barrykada seems to have downplayed the mystique of the place, and even though you still need a “password” to get in, the story-telling and the rolling bar seems to have disappeared, which is a bit sad as it added an unique charm to the place. The menu offers a variety food made from quality Ukrainian products and one of the best signature drink I have had in Kyiv (and there is a lot of competition). All at very reasonable prices. The staff speak a little to a lot of english (besides Ukrainian and Russian ofc) and will often find a waiter that speaks one of the languages that is preferred by your group. The staff are friendly, attentive, and efficient. In general the Barrykada is a must if you are in Kyiv. It does not matter if you are there with family (and kids), friends or colleagues from work - the Ostannya Barykada will give you a value for money experience. UPDATE - The Barrykada was closed when I was there in June 2020 due to the COVID situation, hopefully it will open again soon

The most worth it food in Kyiv

Compared to past reviews, this place is actually really easy to find. At the elevator to the underground mall is a button that takes you directly to the restaurant. You will still need the password for entry, but in my case, I do not need to mention one as a friend that had joined me for dinner arrived there first and cracked the code. The design looks eccentric & high end, but the price is actually cheaper than many establishments that provide similar food, roughly similar to the summer street food market at Podil riverside. A good steak for around €6, meat platter with horseradish for €5, and a piece of oyster for €1, in a very central location, oh my!

Great concept, great food, great drinks and great value

We visited here quite a number of times during our visit to Kiev. The high standards were maintained at each visit. There is a varied menu that offers excellent food, cocktails, wines and beers at very reasonable prices. Having read about this place we though that it would be difficult to find and were put off slightly by having to give a password in Ukrainian. It proved very easy to find, it's near the north western entrance, and no password was needed. Hint...seek a table in the back bar, it's like an old London Club!

The best Foie Gras in the World! ...I'm serious.

I’ve come here a few times already and had many things on the menu. It is a cool place that is hidden, a little game of the secret password to get in and the best foie gras that I’ve ever had in my life for $8.00 bucks. Honestly, it is better and bigger than $30.00 foie gras plates in Boston or NYC or London, etc. I always get it when I go there. The pulled pork sandwich has changed for the worse. They used to have an awesome pulled pork sandwich on a hamburger bun and the meat was great. But I just had it a few days ago and the meat quality has seriously dropped and it’s served on American white sliced bread now. It’s totally different and a bad decision to change. The steaks always come over-cooked so you have to ask for something more rare than you normally would. Their chicken dish is small and not worth it. But the goose leg is good. Honestly the only thing worth having that is truly awesome is the foie gras only, and their green mayo is good too. Try the garlic and horseradish Ukrainian traditional drink at the hostess bar on the way in. You will get a big surprise.

Really sad it was so bad!

Location isn’t that hard to find but I won’t spoil it. Saved this till the last day as it was my favourite out of the 3 I had booked. Read the very mixed reviews and chose to ignore the negative ones..... but they are right it was pretty bad. Service: shocking, initially waited way too long to be asked if we wanted a drink. Ordered rum and coke came with no coke (they had no coke in the whole restaurant) then the next round I had to get up and ask where the drinks were it was that long. The waiter forgot to order them. All the staff just stand around chatting and one of the Chefs spent half the night on her phone. Great appearance to customers when they can see in the kitchen. Way to slow and sloppy overall. Food: Nice tasting I had the goose leg and my other half had the goat. Except it was luke warm at the very most. The Varenky we had was very average in comparison to the Varenky we had a previous night. The sausage for starter was actually good and hot. Luke warm goose and goat isn’t very nice We always generously tip and I couldn’t bring myself to tip the whole experience was just that poor. Our other two meals whilst in Kiev were amazing so when there is so much choice this would be at the bottom of my list never to return.

A great place in Kyiv good food unusual drinks and price is good it a very special place to go you do need to book it dose get busy. We did have to give the password this Time maybe because of coivd. Service is slow but it a place to go and spend the evening it not a quick dinner place it so nice. Staff are helpful most talk English. Food is fresh it a open kitchen so you can see everything We was not going to go this time but very happy we did. It a great for a romantic dinner or with friends good mix of international people there was good talking to other tables. Don't miss it when in Kyiv your be taking about it for days it that good.

Lively and fun

An entertaining experience, reached via its own button in a lift. When you finally get in it is a maze! There was live music, walls that opened to reveal more seating, as I said, an experience! The service was a little slow, although the drinks and traditional food were of a high standard. Worth a visit

Delicious Food and ambiance

What an amazing restaurant. Due to the events in Ukraine it no longer has the password but was still an awesome dining experience. After seeing it on Atlas Obscura I decided it was the only restaurant I really wanted to visit whilst in Kyiv. It was fairly quiet when I visited and the food was delivered promptly and was delicious. Everything I hoped it would be. It is a two minute walk from one of the Kyiv Banksys which was also worth a visit.

Good food, good value

I ate in this restaurant 2 times. Its hard to find, Google map show it is inside globus mall in the independence square. Go down stair, you wont be able to find it. Finally we ask someone, the entrance is in a corridor,with a door, no sign, like a backdoor, Then go Inside, another door, Then a receptionist area, you don't see any dining table, trick begin, you need to find where is the entrance, we have no clue, finally the girl push a wall, the door open. Inside is a dining area。menu has many too choose. Food was great, price very reasonable, service is impeccable. A modern place to dine. Two thumbs up

Not so mysterious but nice anyway

We read on the internet about this place that it's not that easy to get to it as there is some challenge / quest that you have to make. When we arrived it appeared that everything is much easier so we were a bit disappointed. But the place itself is really cool - stylish interior, good music, nice service and interesting menu. Delicious cocktails and good food, although it could be warmer.

Really bad experience .

First , there was mistake in the verry first beer we have. Then, all the meals we were having where cold. Wrong steaks, wrong side dish. Well done when is was supposed to be rare. Force to have a kind of steak when its already order for a while because they did a mistake. We do not reccomand. Waist of money with all the other amazing options around. It's overrated. Really disapointed.

1 hour and still waiting for food.

We entered there with our reservation, they closed the door and said 1 minute. Then we sat and ordered food. It has been 1 hour and we are waiting still, despite there are only 4 table inside. We asked to close a light upon our face and they rejected it. When our food comes, i will write here.

Quirky under ground scape

Came across this quirky Restaurant which was a good finding. Attentive staff and relatively quick service. Only tried some desert and shots of flavoured vodka and whisky. It's a must do if like Vodka. Over all nice experience in a lovely underground quirky Restaurant.

Fantastic secret restaurant. Good food. Such a fun place

Don’t miss out on this amazing a secret restaurant. It’s truly an experience. And if you haven’t been here before, let the staff know, cause them they will give you a house tour with another secret door included. The food was really good. Mostly local dining, but great meat. And we can really recommend the cocktails as well.

Best barszcz

Interesting concept, especially with the password at the entrance, and metal dishes. I felt like I was back to my scouts days. The food is very good, especially barszcz, I would come back for it any day. I also reccomend to try local beers. Not something what yuou would get in any pub. The service was prompt, smiley and attentive. Definitely on my list to go back there for a dinner.
