Skadarlija's Dva jelena has been keeping its bohemian spirit and tradition alive for 180 years now. As Dva jelena leaves its mark on both Skadarlija and Belgrade, its patrons leave theirs on the legendary tavern. This perpetual interaction lends shape to the gourmet dishes and the inimitable nightlife of the Serbian metropolis. The restaurant is located in Skadarlija region where there are local restaurants mostly. The resturant have 5-6 different halls where in each live serbian local music is played after 8 30 . on Fridays and Weekends it is hard to find a place without reservation so keep in mind you always need a reservation before going. The dishes are tasty , try the cheese plate, pie( burek) with cheese and mixed meat dish.

Atmosphere,vibe,food quality,service..absolutely impeccable!!!! Since Belgrade people know who and what is Dva Jelena in Europe,this is more for visitors from abroad-if you're expecting non smoking,sterile plastic restaurant with frozen pre-cooked meals and to pay as little as possible...stay at home and eat at Mac Donald.
This is how we eat,drink,enjoy our families and celebrate life.Proud to be Serbian.

We had such a great time here!
First of all, decor is rustical and special, you will feel like you are in some other era.
Also, food is amazing and the staff was really helpful. There was 10 of us at the table and there was never an empty glass, full ashtray or something else needless on the table. Food came super fast and it was beyond delicious.
There was also a group of musicians that was playing around tables since it was evening and they were pretty awesome too.

Visited this place while staying Skadarlija - Belgrade once for dinner. The reception girls were not very welcoming. They put us in a corner , as they said they were overbooked, But the worst part was from the waiter, he was grumpy and angry and very discourteous. He just threw the menu cards on the table and when we asked for his suggestion of wine , he said :" Dont know". May the staff there is racist. Food was good . but we did not enjoy our dinner.
Avoid this place if you can and instead visit Tri šešira or Zavičaj, Good food and good hospitality

Only because of the food quality this place is getting 2 stars. If food wasn't delicious, Two deers would get 1 star. First, when you enter the restaurant, air is full with smoke and garlic smell. Our waiter wasn't kind, service was very bad. One chair was literally broken so we had to ask for another one. We went there with our friends hoping to see great atmosphere, but we ended with paying our bill and looking for another place. Skadarlija is well known for great energy, delicious food, amazing waiters, well known as a place where you can have great time with family and friends but this time we didn't see any of that. Would not recommend.

We came to Belgrade to celebrate our Bachelorette‘s and Bachelor‘s party. Our guests came from London and Zurich. Before that, we consulted a nightlife platform „Beogradnocu.com“, and asked how the restaurant „Dva Jelena“ was, which they recommended. This was why we booked a table for dinner on saturday, 21 pm for 5 persons. The reservation was confirmed on the same day. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was a massive queue. When we finally arrived at the desk, a young and extremely arrogant girl told us, that there was no reservation on my name. Even after showing her the sms with the confirmation she insisted no reservation was made. She then tried to blame the agency, claiming they never have reservations when people book through it (fun fact is, that they do work with them and all the other bookings we did through the agency were perfect). When i contacted the agency, they were outraged and could not believe it. Standing outside and checking where else to go for the typical serbian „kafana“ feeling, we heard another group talking about the same problem. They also made a reservation and were sent away with the same claim. We finally decided to go to the restaurant „Kovac“, which was extremely good and satisfying in every aspect. In the meantime, the booking agency came back to us and told us, they girl on the desk of the restaurant claimed that we were late (it was 21:04 when reached the desk, because there was a queue!) and that we were not even 5 people, which is just a harsh and big lie. The agency by the way organized our whole weekend and all the other reservations were impeccable. I guess the arrogant girl just gives table to people she knows and then lies afterwards.
If you are a tourist and you come to Belgrade to enjoy a good time, especially as a bigger group, do NOT GO to Dva Jelena. This is just not properly working place; from the organization to customer treatment, it is just not in a european standard.

We ate dinner there, food was ok but definitely not a good value for money, it is much better in cheap traditional eateries just a few blocks away. Especially the chicken soup had no taste at all, not even chicken smell, it was like eating hot water with some unidentifiable white things in it (maybe celery?) The waiter was pleasant at the beggining but the service was extremely slow, despite the restaurant being almost empty inside (terrasse was full though, I do not know how many tables he had to cover, so we were very patient). Just at the end the bill was not coming so we went to pay directly to him, without any criticism, and wanted to leave a small tip of equivalent 2-2.5 euros but the waiter became very nervous and shouted something and gave the tip back, clearly unhappy with the amount. :D
Even in Belgium where salaries are much higher I never had this situation of someone being angry for 2 euros tip, especially that it represented 5-7 % of the total bill (prices are not high in Serbia even if this was a rather expensive place for the area). We left the restaurant quite shocked and with a bitter taste.

We went there without reservation and had a table at the entrance side. The inner area looked better so my first recommendation to make a reservation.
Decoration & atmosphere is great if you are looking for a local restaurant.
We ate a cold appetizer plate to share and a meat plate to share to try most of the alternatives. The cold appetazer platter was soo good, especially the garlic breads were amazing.
The meat platter was also good in size and taste.
I belive pricing was average, not too expensive or too cheap, it feels deserved.
In short, easily recommended for local food.
One note I do not like, not for this restaurant but for all restaurants is Serbia is smoking indoors. Even normally it is so bad while eating, in the Covid era I cannot understand how it is allowed by the government.

Located in the old and famous bohemian quarter, it just appears to be one of the small mama papa joints from the outside but it was an entirely different world inside. The street itself is lined with so many restaurants, but so glad that our local friend Goran took us here.
The food was just yummy. The meat so tender and well done. A whole range of wine and other liquor. I got my favorite flavored beer. Never in my life have I tasted such garlic bread. Recipe seemed simple but it was crispy crunchy, roasted bread with garlic, herbs, olive oil. Seating capacity of almost 200plus (as informed by our local friend) with almost three levels, basement, ground and a mezzanine kind. The place seemed to be frequented by local crowd. Being autumn with great weather, we chose to sit outdoors. There were live musicians singing from local folklore to even Russian songs. Invite them to your table for some private entertainment, of course a small gratitude is expected.
Not a place to be missed if you’re ever in Belgrade.

Having heard about the history of the restaurant, I decided that I couldn't miss it. However the main priority of the service staff seems to be to get through as many people during a service and free up a table for the next guests as soon as possible.
I had ordered a soup to start and then a main course but hadn't even finished my soup before the next course was brought out and the second I had finished my soup, the bowl was whisked off.
I felt uncomfortable and it felt like I was competing in an eating challenge rather than sitting at my leisure in a restaurant.
I won't be returning as I value staff who care about the individual customer's comfort and experience rather than operating a conveyor belt system. I think you will find better customer service elsewhere.

This place was recommended by our guide, and we loved it.
Local meat dishes were very tasty (although the portions were pretty big!). The wines were recommended by the waiter, and he showed us some delicious local wines we didn't even know about and were very impressed with.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed, as we spent 3 hours of lunch enjoying the Serbian hospitality.
Definitely recommended!

Despite having a reservation, we were told, that there is no free table. On a Saturday evening it is very hard to find an alternative in Belgrade without reservation. The host woman at the reception was very rude in addition, instead of trying to be helpful! If you want to go to Dva Jelena, make sure 10 times in advance, that your reservation is still valid!

We had such a great time at Dva Jelena Restaurant in Belgrade, Serbia. Our tour guide with Gate 1 brought our group here for dinner. He wanted us to experience the Bohemian tradition and spirit, and that we did! With a large variety of traditional foods, we were entertained during dinner by a Tanbura Orchestra and the evening was delightful. I loved the decor, the outside so charming and the inside so festive and so Bohemian!! This restaurant, established in 1832, is a famous Belgrade tradition with a long list of famous visitors. The area that the restaurant is in is called the old Bohemian Quarter of Skadarlija. A lovely spot to stroll through. So glad to have partaken and left with some happy memories of our visit to Belgrade!

The service was very bad. We asked to change the table because of possible upcoming rain and the waiter looked us strangely like we asked something unlogical and wasn't willing to help us find a solution.
I ordered "Teleća Rebra" which was supposed to be roasted boneless veal ribs and I ate only the potatoes because the meat was only fat. When I asked for the manager, he was aggressive towards me trying to explain but at the end he told me that I would not pay for it. I wasn't satisfied at all..

The food was great, me and my wife both got beef meals and the taste was absolutely great. Price is a bit more expensive comparing to other restaurants in Belgrade but the food quality is worth the price difference. The only downside of our experience and the reason I am breaking one point is the two young ladies at the reception were rude. They were playing with their phones when we arrived and when we told them that we had reservations they did not even try to look it up because we told them we made the reservations online. Instead the talked in their own language and laughed about something while they were on Instagram. The waiter gentleman were very nice and polite. I personally loved the red wine the waiter recommended. The chocolate cake is pretty nice if you want to try it out.
