A must visit!

This was our first dinner in Bucharest and set the standard very high. From the moment we walked through the door the service was excellent, the staff were so friendly and really took their time to explain each dish and recommended Romanian dishes. The food was outstanding. I had the rabbit and olive pie and my partner had the lamb shank. Both were delicious. Lovely local wine also. About a 20 minute walk from the Old Town in a more residential area. Seems like a restaurant the locals go to which is also a good sign! Well worth the walk/uber to get there. Would definitely recommend this place. I can only assume it is not rated higher because its off the beaten track!

Traditional romanian food,with a hinch of modernism

The place overall is really nice. Food is delicious and the place has a good vibe. As a romanian,is not a place I would visit very often, as thr price for some dishes are exagerated, e.g.zacusca or slana afumata. But visiting Bucharest as a foreigner, its a must!

Sunday family lunch

Very crowded in a sunday afternoon. Rooster soup was good. Fish eggs with toast bread were ok but nothing special. Fried pork meat(pomana porcului) with polenta and garlic sauce was good. Beef cheeks were ok but the polenta and the sauce were very bitter, because of too many truffles. Lava cake with icecream was just ok. Serving was attentive and polite. Parking places aren't very hard to find usually but this time it took a while. Food presentation ok. Menu contains not many options but they have extra preparates for week-end. Prices are above average because the restaurant is near romanian Parliament.

we got gray hairs while waiting for the food. It took 25 minutes for someone to come and take our food order, while we were the only customers at that moment. I’m proudly giving them 1 star, they really earned it. If you’re hungry, stay away from this place

Amazing food, poor service

✅ We enjoyed the food. Amazing taste and textures. We took a Tuna pate, a Courgette Risotto and a Milanese Osso Buco. All were very tasty and well cooked. ❌ Unfortunately the waiters were rood and noisy. They seemed bored and not motivated to work/serve in a local with such a great food. Just spending the time chatting without paying attention to the guests. We waited for a long time with the glasses empty to receive a refill or to be asked if we want to have another glass of wine. The food was not presented, just put the page in front of us... Too bad, because the story of the food deserved to be told.

Expensive and poor quality

I love good food, nice ambiance and good service. The place looks good, but the food not so tasty. I ordered the duck leg with polenta (pasat) was horrible, the polenta is boiled in milk was sour not eatable, the size of the portion was ridiculously small (5 or 6 cm), I eat only one dish so I don't eat much. The service was ok, nice garden and clean toilet but I will not go back or recomand to anyone.

Best meal in Romania!

Mahala was recommended by our food tour guise and WOW did it exceed all of our expectations! We wanted to have a special and memorable last dinner in Bucharest and this restaurant delivered!! As a starter we ordered the mussels and the freshness of the dish left us longing for our mains. We shared the seabass and the cockerel. The seabaas risotto was creamy and smooth like butter melting in our mouths. The cockerel was juicy and tender. As a dessert, we ordered the Coliva. The flavours complimented each other. The icing on the cake was our server, Virgil. He eas funny, kind and his customer service skills were impeccable. I would definitely return to this establishment and recommend you do as well.

Food was ok but the way the waitresses treated me was very rude and unprofessional.. I am a flight attendant, I travel anywhere in the world and I am used to eat by myself and this is the first bad review that I write cause I am shocked by the way they were talking to me. wouldn’t recommend.

If you want to be happy, eat here

Even if I love the design and the summer garden, these come only second to the food when I put the restaurants on my top 3 favourites in Bucharest. If you really want to taste Romanian cuisine as it should be, Mahala is the place to go. The food has the taste of childhood, even better I would say, which is mission impossible since memories are the most unfaithful lover. The duck and the turbot are my favourite mains. Romanian are crazy about eggplant salad and this is the best you've ever tried. If you are a tourist the Restaurant it's a must try and not just for the food. You could see tons of handmade carpentry with Romanian motifs used in the sofas and more details and references to be discovered.

A very nice surprise

First time in this restaurant and I enjoyed it very much! From the interior design to the funny waiter and the special, exquisite food. It was an unexpected fortunate change from the “classical” restaurants. I appreciated the not-too-large choice, the normal portions and the original fresh tastes. We’ll be back!

Fabulous experience

Fabulous experience. I arrived just after they opening for lunch and was seated on the beautiful outdoor patio under the over big, lush trees and plants. I ordered the lamb shank and while I waited enjoyed a glass of red wine. WOW! It was delicious. the meat fell-off the bone and was lightly seasoned allowing for the natural flavour to shine, and the spuds were also lightly seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Service was perfect. I was allow to linger and enjoy another glass of wine - even as the lunchtime crowd started to arrive. I highly recommend treating yourself to a fabulous meal and service in an outstanding environment.

Best meal in Bucharest

Fantastic dinner with excellent bottle of Lupi cabernet. The service was prompt and professional. Sitting in outside garden sublime and private. Food was cooked perfectly. Recommend the mussels and meat filled grape leaves for appetizers. Lamb shank for main was tasty too.

Pleasant surprise

We attended a birthday celebration being at Mahala for the first time. It was a very pleasant surprise - high quality food, good service, nice atmoshere. The only negative I would mention are the very kitch plastic curtains hanging over the tables and the rather excesive prices. On the other hand, lamb rasol was really top quality. We did not eat dessert.

Never come back

Verry verry expensive for food that cost in the supermarket 10 euro, and we payed like almoast 100. We went there because my lovely girlfriend saw something on instagram . But that why i don't belive influencers. We eat some food that wasn't neither good tasting, neither good looking. Just expensive. But i am ok, because my girlfriend payed.🫶 We will never come back.

Good food in an attractive bohemian setting

In a quiet residential area, a busy restaurant with a rather bohemian decor. Original, eclectic menu of modern Romanian cooking. We enjoyed sea bass tartare, white bean paste salad, beef ‘sarma’ and stuffed courgette flowers. Very efficient, friendly service.
