First time in this restaurant and I enjoyed it very much! From the interior design to the funny waiter and the special, exquisite food. It was an unexpected fortunate change from the “classical” restaurants. I appreciated the not-too-large choice, the normal portions and the original...fresh tastes. We’ll be back!More

Even if I love the design and the summer garden, these come only second to the food when I put the restaurants on my top 3 favourites in Bucharest. If you really want to taste Romanian cuisine as it should be, Mahala is the place...to go. The food has the taste of childhood, even better I would say, which is mission impossible since memories are the most unfaithful lover. The duck and the turbot are my favourite mains. Romanian are crazy about eggplant salad and this is the best you've ever tried. If you are a tourist the Restaurant it's a must try and not just for the food. You could see tons of handmade carpentry with Romanian motifs used in the sofas and more details and references to be discovered.More

Food was ok but the way the waitresses treated me was very rude and unprofessional.. I am a flight attendant, I travel anywhere in the world and I am used to eat by myself and this is the first bad review that I write cause...I am shocked by the way they were talking to me. wouldn’t recommend.More

We went for a family dinner Sunday evening, following the suggestion of friends and the good reviews. The food was more than meeting the expectations, and so is the place, great choice indeed. We loved the fried zucchini for starters, the liver medallions and the...veal with polenta, outstanding. So we were that much more surprised to find a cold on the verge of unfriendly type of staff, leaving us with the feeling that we somehow bothered them with our visit.More

One our first day in Bucharest as we wandered out of the touristy old town and past the parliament building we found ourselves in a local area. This restaurant seemed to have locals enjoying lunch. They have an outdoor area too. We gave it a...try and were happy.More

This was our first dinner in Bucharest and set the standard very high. From the moment we walked through the door the service was excellent, the staff were so friendly and really took their time to explain each dish and recommended Romanian dishes. The food...was outstanding. I had the rabbit and olive pie and my partner had the lamb shank. Both were delicious. Lovely local wine also. About a 20 minute walk from the Old Town in a more residential area. Seems like a restaurant the locals go to which is also a good sign! Well worth the walk/uber to get there. Would definitely recommend this place. I can only assume it is not rated higher because its off the beaten track!More

The place overall is really nice. Food is delicious and the place has a good vibe. As a romanian,is not a place I would visit very often, as thr price for some dishes are exagerated, e.g.zacusca or slana afumata. But visiting Bucharest as a foreigner,...its a must!More

I selected Mahala after reading reviews of the top restaurants in Bucharest. First, the name translate to slum. I was interested in seeing/tasting what was described as upscale traditional Romanian food. We started out with three standard dishes, Fasole Batuta (White Bean Dip), Zacusta (Eggplant...spread) and Salata de Icre de Crap (Carp egg salad). To be honest, all three were good, but I have had better. My entree was Obraz de Vitel cu Trufe (Veal Cheeks in Truffle sauce) and my wife's have Calcan Usturoi Trufe (Turbo in Garlic and Truffle sauce). My dish was extremely tender and the sauce was tasty, but the small portion was emphasised by the huge plate it was served on. The fish was very tasty and the sauce was very fluffy and very good. For desert we had Galuste cu prune (Plum Dumplings) and Coliva (Funeral Cake). Both were good, but my wife thought the chef used dried plums instead of fresh ones. The restaurant itself was decorated very interestingly. The rooms, in this old building, were very tall, at least 2.5 meters high. The walls were painted with murals that seem to depict rural traditions. Each room was decorated differently. My opinion is that the location is not great, the food is OK and the service was very good. I wouldn't list this as a top ten restaurant, maybe closer to 20.More

I don’t believe so! Generally in Romania there is not.
