Best meal in Bucharest

Absolutely fantastic meal- felt authentic and delicious- it was reasonably priced. It appears to be family run and nothing was too much trouble. I had the mici which were the best I’ve had in Romania. My husband had the cabbage rolls, which were also delicious. We were full but had to try the apple cake which was great as well. If we were staying longer in Bucharest we would definitely return here. The decor is fun, being centred around the handball champions in the 60s. We were gifted a small flag on our departure which was a very sweet gesture. Highly recommended. It’s only a short walk from the old town area.

Good food at a reasonable price

Roughly 5 minutes walk from NH Bucharest hotel hidden away on a side street,this restaurant offers local food and good prices. Not busy when we visited, we found friendly and prompt service. Had mici (fried pork mince with garlic and oregano) then the carp washed down with house wine, enjoyed all we had here. Worth a visit if you are in the area visiting the Great Synagogue.

Incredible service and food!

This restaurant was outstanding! The menu had so many affordable, authentic Romanian dishes and it truly felt like a homecooked meal. It was so comforting to come here after a long day in the cold, and our waiter was so sweet and treated us so well. The service was fast and the food was excellent.

not very far from the URINI square (city center) this restaurant offers a varied local cuisine. For Romanian cuisine let yourself be guided by the staff who are extraordinarily kind. The prices are very adordable and on sunny days until November you can enjoy a beautiful terrace. This place, which has become our daily stronghold, does not tire us and yet we make long stays in Bucharest. All our sympathy to this equique who has been welcoming us for a long time. A good restaurant tucked away from the main streets. Serving very reasonably priced good food with a good choice of menu along with carafes of easy drinking house wine. Very friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely recommend to give it a try.

I am writing this review very late, but I have been here in March 2022. I'm Romanian. I live in the UK. I hadn't returned home since 2015 because of university, work and the COVID-19 lockdown. When I finally came back, I wanted a taste of traditional Romanian food because I missed it. The staff were as warm as I would expect from back home. They'd check on us and were happy to talk to me about the events that happened in Romania since I left, and life back home. The food was great and traditional, and reminded me of the taste of home. I had mamaliga cu branza si smantana on one of my visits, and a traditional platter on my next visit. The staff are happy to make the flavours more mild, or stronger, depending on what you ask for. I asked for a stronger taste for the seasoning and mujdei and the chef did it, so I could feel the sort of burn that I'd usually get from my grandma's cooking. I can't explain how it is to not taste home in 7 years but to come back and eat something so strong, spicy and flavourful that you end up crying, but can't stop eating. You can tell the chef takes pride in his work and cares. Overall great customer service, they treat you like a friend. And excellent food, with the staff catering to your preferences as regards Romanian cooking. If you want to visit home and miss Romanian cooking, this is the place for you.

We visited here after reading the good reviews. I always like to visit a traditional restaurant in whichever country I visit, and this restaurant didn't disappoint. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with farmhouse potatoes and grilled mushrooms, and my partner ordered the mixed grill for one. The food was amazing!!! We were offered a dessert to try, which the owner had said his mother used to make for him when he was a child. This was also amazing!! The prices are very reasonable. Overall, I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant. The staff are very friendly, the food is amazing and the prices are very good!!!

To be avoided. Terrible dinner we ordered a grill with side dish and chicken breast with mushrooms and grilled vegetables. Everything arrived cold, mushrooms and vegetables practically raw. I asked for bread...one of the two rolls had already been used...a bite was missing. Terrible service, higher price than other places where I have eaten well...

Comenzi Bucatarasul – a neighborhood gem!

I ate dinner one night at Comenzi Bucatarasul in early June and loved every minute! Seated on a shaded outdoor terrace, I started with a wonderfully fresh salad and then had a delicious entrée of pork with a red wine, mushroom, and ham sauce. The host could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. Truly, a neighborhood gem!

Restaurant a little outside the center and not very frequented by tourists. Traditional cuisine and quick service. Generous portions and very low prices: my boyfriend and I ordered three beers, a bottle of water, a dish each and a ciorba to share and we spent less than €20 each.

A gem in Bucharest

Dinner was fabulous. Pork schnitzel with polenta for me and grilled chicken in lemon sauce for the hubby. The bill came out to 82 lei which is less than $20! That includes gratuity (standard 10%) btw 🥳 The restaurant owner even gave us some souvenirs 🇷🇴 Fun fact: we sat inside where there’s AC. There are pictures of a handball team on the wall. Evidently, their champion team for Bucharest still hangs out there as the owner’s father used to play for the team.

The best in Bucharest!

Words cannot describe how much we loved our visits! Upon entering the restaurant, you’re welcomed into to a home away from home, bustling with a mixture of locals and tourists. The traditional dishes are lovingly prepared and absolutely delicious. We went on a Wednesday night and we were so impressed that we went again on the Thursday as well. I had the cabbage rolls both nights (yum!) whilst my husband had the pork shank one night and the pork stew the second. If you want to try real Romanian food in a chilled setting then this is the place!

Good food, friendly service

Stopped in for lunch today since we were in the area. There were a lot of interesting things on the menu, but since we weren't overly hungry, I got the Greek salad and they added chicken and my wife had the lemon chicken, which came without any sides. Both meals were really good. The server was friendly and did apologize many times for not having the side put on my wife's lunch. Prices are not bad, and they do add a 10% service charge.

Terrific little local restaurant

A short walk from the touristy "Old Town", this terrific little local restaurant offers better food at lower prices. It's in a rather nondescript side street, but is welcoming and has a nice atmosphere. We enjoyed it so much the first night, that we went back a few days later to try more of the local Romanian dishes. The Chicken Schnitzel was excellent, sides including Roasted Cabbage and Rosemary Roast Potatoes were nicely done, and the Placinta Iaurt (a kind of yoghurt pie in filo pastry dessert) was just wonderful. With local wines and beer, good service and friendly customers, this place is worth a visit.
