Every Bucharest-raised person remembers the Monte Carlo Restaurant. It is a very well known spot right on the lake side, which still has amazing views if one sits inside. Unfortunatelly, likely to shelter guests from moskitoes, the terrace has been been isolated from the water,...loosing some of its charm.
Howeevr, food is still very good and I did enjoy my visit.More
Greeting customers is definitely not common among the staff of this restaurant! I visited this place with my mother and would have liked to have the nice view of the lake from the window because the terrace was full but after seating we were told...by one of the waiters "that is reserved" although there was nothing mentioned on it and there were other tables free but he did not have the courtesy to offer us another oneand just continued with "only (the ones) up"; at this point I wanted to leave but stayed because my mother insisted and told me it used to be a nice place when she was young.
After choosing another table by our own we waited about 15 minutes for a waiter to come although all of them could see us waiting for the menu but pretended to be busy because they saw me annoyed; again, without any greeting we were handed over the menu by Gabi, whose name I have to get from him, he did not introduce himself. Tried to order sarmale because I love the dish but got a blunt reply "we don't have" without a further recommendation, just a straight bored face so I order whatever came to my mind. While waiting for the food I have asked once if it is going to take longer and Gabi replied while walking and without even making eye contact.
Food was not great and the attitude of the waiters was more than dissappointing.
I would not reccommend this place nor will I ever go there again!More
Every now and then when I stroll through Cișmigiu Park, I decide short notice to eat there. Monte Carlo is not top of the class but has never disappointed me.
Can be recommended not only for its food but also for its atmosphere by the...water.More
An old school restaurant in the best sense of the word.
Impeccable service, courtesy, speed and quality.
There was no need for a long wait to serve food, drinks were served quickly and correctly.
A place where you can have a cold beer in the...summer, no matter how hot it is outside.More
No omelettes available for lunch so had chicken schnitzel but chips were awful, greasy and not cooked through. When asked if we wanted bread said no but it came anyway and was on the bill so we complained and the bill was altered.
Food was OK, portion sizes were good. Disappointed that soup was ‘finished’ at 6.30pm. Didn’t have the beer that I wanted from the menu so had to settle for an inferior one (in my opinion). Nice seat by the window overlooking the boating lake. Not...cheap by Romanian standards, but good value by English ones.More
