Fantastic food, huge variety of traditional Romanian dishes. Vegan friendly! Excellant quality and very reasonably priced.

Great find for traditional food. Second visit. Raj was our server and was great. Some of the others had a surly attitude and at first we were turned away due to no reservation. We stepped outside and called back to make a reservation :) and...got right in. Raj saved the day.More

Traditional restaurant that gives you the feeling of another era. Careful of what you choose as a main dish because it can be tricky. Go with what you feel comfortable. Great appetisers and medium prices. Would say it’s one of the most worthy traditional places.

One of those hidden gems in Bucharest. This is one of those homemade style food restaurants and it is totally recommended. Homemade wine was very good. I had Brasoveanca as a starter and Sarmal Romanesti as main course. Absolutely very tasty.

Just finished an excellent dinner at Vatra. Went for traditional fare and it did not disappoint: cabbage rolls, delicious. Tripe soup, succulent. Pork belly, OMG. We risked death by gluttony when we finished the Romanian doughnuts, but we thought worth the risk (it paid off)....All spectacular, but it would have been the same without our friend Raj (Pershan). His smile, attitude and recommendations were all spot on. Thanks Vatra, and thanks Raj! We had a ball and we will return!:)More

Convenient location to our hotel and good food and service. However, after two superior dining experiences in Brasov and Sibiu, this capital city restaurant was just OK.

I tryed this restaurant during my business trip. The experience was really fantastic. The waiters extremly friendly and food tasty. I can say, after this experience that Vatra is a very nice place to enjoy the tipycal romanian food.

We stumbled across this place when the restaurant we were intending to eat at was full. We are international tourists and had a lovely reception. Food was nice and reasonably priced, our servers were friendly and helpful . We did witness the grumpy behaviour of...one waitstaff to another potential customer that a previous reviewer reported. Although to our eyes most of the customers in the area where we were seated appeared to be local Romanians. Perhaps we were lucky to have the waiter we had. The chicken in vine leaves was yummy!More

I had dinner on the 13th of september at Vatra with 3 colleagues from 2 NGOs from Germany and Italy and I was pretty disappointed and revolted by the behaviour of the 2 waiters (especially the one I spoke with first) who apply a double...standard of reception : one, rather cold and rigid with me as a Romanian and the other one, more welcoming and flexible with tourists (my foreign colleagues). When I asked in Romanian  to a woman waiter if we can have a table to have dinner, she told me very coldly and categorically that if we did not have a reservation there was no free table, although we saw a few free tables with no "Reserved" note.While my colleague from Germany asked the same question in English (while I went to a restaurant nearby to see if I found a table), suddenly there was no problem that we did not have a reservation and a table was found. Later, when another waiter came to take the order, the Italian colleague wanted to know if he could change the side dish from potatoes to vegetables. When I asked the question for him in Romanian, the dish was "standard" and it was not possible. When he decided to give it a try and insist, asking the same question in English, the waiter was flexible and the change had been made without any problem. This kind og double standard behaviour is discriminating and obviously revolting. Too bad, the food was rather good. However, I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my foreign friends. Discrimination is illegal and a sign of non professionalism from the part of the Vatra personel I dealt with.More

Google suggested this place, and now I know why it has such a good rating on the map! The food is delicious and the place is very pleasant! As my first Romanese experience, I tried to pick what looked most traditional. I chose “Mamaliguta cu...bransa si smantana si ou ochi” (or polenta, cream fraiche, cow cheese and fried egg) under the home made dishes section. It was delicious, but solid…, quite too much If you want to have something else. Before that -and because i loooooove soup, I had the “Ciobra de Legume”, or vegetable soup, which I highly recommend! Very tasty!!! People here are nice and serviceable, which is a high plus to the delicious food they serve. It’s worth coming!!!More
