Food tastes flavourful and authentic. Would highly recommend the chicken chilli if you are about the spice. The owner is extremely friendly too. The service was fairly quick… overall, definitely recommended !!

“Never go here….avoid” Me and my friends were so excited to visit this place on a recent trip to Bulgaria from London. We had the misfortune of doing just that…to much regret. The one star has been given for the pretty decor. We (three of...us) visited the “Gurka” on the 20th June late afternoon starving. We were reluctantly greeted by two miserable aggressive female staff. They seated us to a table, the place was empty at that point. The staff had no one to attend to apart from our table. It took them a long time to provide the menu. We placed a order of “samosa, chaat and onion bhaji” and drinks. Food: The food arrived and was plonked on the table by angry staff. Apart from the average onion bhaji everything else was awful. The samosas tasted like they had been stuffed with left over aloo gobi. The chaat was nothing special. The worst part of the food was the accompaniments arrived 25 minutes after food was served and finished. (Only two other tables had customers) We were informed that one was mango chutney, I said to my friends “this looks like mango pulp”….which was confirmed when I saw two big crates of Natco mango pulp near the staff desk. Why are you passing of mango pulp as “chutney”? I have travelled to Nepal and have first hand experience of authenic food from Nepal….your food is not even close let alone authentic. Staff: The worst part of our experience was your staff which were two females running the place like a gangster joint. Both were at the back most of the time on their mobile phones, ignoring us and other customers. Everytime we called them to place a order or anything, they became more and more angry, it was like we disturbed their leisure time. On one occassion the taller female shouted at us and made us feel unsafe. When the accompaniments came after we had eaten (natco mango pulp), we asked to speak to the manager, both females came running and said “we are both managers, tell us what your problem is”. When we asked where the Nepalese owner is, both shouted he is in Nepal and stays there; and they are the managers. Both females went to the back and started making frantic phone calls giving us dirty looks, we felt really unsafe, did not order mains, paid the bill and left the place. The staff you have employed here is driving your customers away. We went to a really nice Italian place in the shopping centre nearby. Tip: If you ever walk pass this place, perhaps take some selfies outside (as place is pretty) and LEAVE straight after, do not enter as you will be dissapointed, especially those that know their Indian/ Nepalese cuisine!More

It was amazing. The waiter-i guess he’s also the owner- was really friendly and the restaurant is super cozy. I ate chicken kathmandu-DELICIOUS-. Only thing I didn’t really like was the chicken momo. I don’t know if they have beef momo but i don’t really...recommend the chicken momo. Except that, it was a wonderful experience and anyone who’s in sofia should go thereMore

I visited Gurkha restaurant with my friends in November 2017 and again in 2020. Loved the atmosphere inside with Nepali touch which made me feel like I was in a restaurant in Kathmandu. We had some delicious food (biryani, naan roti, momos, chelu khasi soup,...gorkhali chat salad and Nepali thupa) all freshly prepared with high grade herbs, from scratch. Lamb curry in particular was fab! Having visited many other Nepalese restaurants in Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam: this one remains my favourite!More

The surroundings were pleasant and had good 'Nepali atmosphere', from the outside dosen't look much. Food was poor to be honest. The starters were just large cubes of chick and meat, texture of the meat was questionable. The real disappointment was the main dishes, we...ordered chick and meat masala dishes (traditional indian dishes). These turned out to be the same large cubes of chick and meat swamped with poor cold gravy. Real disappointment, especially for the price. Mango lasee was good, have to admit. The service is poor, waitress's that couldn't care really. I requested one to take a group photo, she muttered 'later', which never happened! Not going there again. Don't mind paying, but when the food is poor and the service moreso......naaa give it a miss!More

The food was nice but the whole experience was ruined by the awful service. Me and my friend initially asked to pay by cash but then wanted to use card. The waitress and manager outright refused, saying we had to pay by cash because of...some imaginary government rule which no other restaurant has! This would have been ok, but the problem was the manager (a short fat man) was extremely rude to us, raising his voice and shouting that we had to use cash! My friend tried being reasonable, asking where a cash machine was, and the man just said go and find it! He even told us to ‘take our money and f*ck off’ at the end. Needless to say we are never going back, nobody should be so rude and stubborn to a customer, and no customer should ever have to experience that.More

Gurkha for me defines heaven on Earth. It is the best restaurant for Indian and Nepalese food available in Bulgaria and you won’t be able to find any better. I have ordered delivery and dined in the restaurant and both experiences were beyond amazing. The...food was perfect and service was exemplary. The menu is so broad and caters for all needs. The waiters and boss felt nothing less than family accomplishing all needs. I would highly recommended everyone to visit and taste the delicious food as it’s an opportunity not to be missed. Go GURKHA ❤️❤️More

To begin with it is definitely a great atmosphere to spend an evening at. Everything at its best beat food, service or vibe. Definitely reminds me of my mom’s home cooked desi food. Would definitely recommend everyone in Bulgaria, Sofia to go and check out...this place and enjoy the variety of Indian - Nepalese traditional food ❤️More

I have been all around the world trying indian food... and somehow, this little but sweet place in Sofia has some of the best indian food. You must understand that its Nepali-Indian Mix. If you are looking for just indian... go somewhere else. I first...came in and it felt different but similar to Indian places I have been. Then, when I looked at the menu, it made sense. They have great samosa, chicken dishes, and even Nepali dumplings. It's worth it if you are here in Sofia. You won't find a better place...More

The Gurkha try's and fails to be something for everyone, its take on Indian food,is boring and tasteless, the curry has no spice that you can tell, the whole menu is bland,we were 8 people so tried a range of different dishes all were below any sort of...standard. The service was very slow, though the waitress was helpful she was rushed of her feet.More
