Typical downtown experience

So, it's not much of Wow. Food, service and overall atmosphere are just average, nothing too surprising about it. It has a great location though and it's perfect for a quick lunch and social meetings.

Tasteful Decor, Great Food, Mediocre Cocktails

Lovely spot, great lighting, and fantastic decor. Tried this place after hearing how great their drinks are. I ordered a Manhattan and an Old Fashion and both were mediocre at best. The Negroni was about the only decent drink they had. Food was delicious, but they need to step it up on drinks.

I was there for a drink with a friend and few weeks later on a business dinner. I wasn't very pleased with the service, neither the food. The atmosphere is good though. The garden is very pleasant. If I am to visit it again, I would go more for a drink rather than for a dinner.

What happened?

Two years ago I would routinely eat here at motto. It was good but not great. After my visit today, I cannot even say it is still “good”. I ordered the baked goat cheese dish. One would assume that baked would mean that at some point it was hot. There were some quick grill marks on it but it was hard and cold to the core. The cold goat cheese, a burger and meatballs all for the price of 48 lv?? What a deal, not! Expensive and small portions. Even tough the place was nearly empty, the service was lacking attention. I don’t think I will be returning any time soon. What happened?

Cheat meal Fail!

I've waited whole week for my cheat meal.. unfortunately the burger, squid and tortilla were crap! Even my dog didn't want to taste it, that's how bad it was!

Terrible rude service

When me and my friend arrived at Motto we where shown to our seats promptly. We where then greeted by 2 very rude waiters and waitresses. I don't know what we but they seem to have found something very amusing as they was laughing between themselves at us. The staff where standing around looking bored and had failed to clean our table which was filthy, it had many dead insects all over it and had not been cleaned since the last people using it. We ordered two mineral waters which where served to us with dirty glasses that had not been cleaned properly. I order the Asian chicken skewers and my friend ordered the coconut chicken with sweet potatoes, these where both generous portions and we did not have to wait long but they both tastes bland unfortunately. The waitress couldn't even look us in the eye when taking the bill off us. I would not recommend this restaurant to others and we will definitely not be returning again.

Lovely experience

The place is not the “wow” you’ve been looking for. But nevertheless, it has great location, nice outdoor space and good quality service. We had grilled tune and stuffed pasta and all was delicious. Our waiters was very friendly and welcoming. We had a great dinner.

Simply awful. Avoid at all cost

Let's start with the good. It was a good decor and atmosphere and that's it - they took our order after 20 minutes. Thank God for smart phones - Steak arrived cold and overcooked - tried were even colder - no napkins or salt or pepper I had to go fetch some - the vienar schnitzel was cold and overcooked also It was awful never coming back.

A good place for cheesecake

I went there on a Saturday afternoon with friends. I had a delicious cheesecake and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The surrounding view was very bad: basically some old buildings around but the decoration of the restaurant could easily eliminate that part. I give 4 stars because the service was not very good. I asked for fork 2 times and they forgot me. In overall, it is a nice choice for spending an afternoon.

Nice garden, average food, mediocre service

The outdoor seating area is very nice, a hidden garden in the heart of Sofia. In summer it is always packed with people. Unfortunately food was very average. Neither the salmon, nor the beef carpaccio nor the mousse au chocolat blew me away. Very average at best, almost canteen-like, really bland in taste. They don't provide any extras, such as a bread basket, free water or an amuse-bouche. Even worse, service seems very careless and uninterested in their guests. Hardly any smiles or eye contact. They show no interest, in whether you liked your dish or would like to order something else. Their English was also pretty bad, instead of the menu I received the bill. Wouldn't recommend, there are much better options in Sofia!

Bad food + service

Waited a whole eternity for the menu, the food was total shiat, old sea-food, the pork tasted like rubber, overall realy bad experience. Would not go there again.

Awful Service

Our waiter refused to take our drinks before the food. He brought us wrong wine more expensive than the one we ordered and not even on the menu. We called the manager and he raised his voice at us, blamed us for not looking at the wine tag before drinking it. (we don't wine everyday). None of them said sorry. We asked to pay half of the wine price in order to end the argument. What happened with the client is always right?! Not even mentioning that the food is overpriced and not even delicious.

this is a evergreen for meetings, not always perfect, but easy, nice garden, friendly staff and reasonable prices. ups and downs in the cuisine
