A basement restaurant that serves wonderful local food for excellent prices, the veal being a particular highlight and superb wine list backed up with an array of spirits (the cherry brandy is a real treat). Service is too notch and always willing to supply recommendations...and advice. Go if you have the chance.More

I have been to the Balkans 3 times and love the food and atmosphere in their restaurants and this establishment is no exception. I have eaten here twice and although I am not vegetarian they have a fantastic vegetarian menu with a delicious monastery stew...and Bulgarias signature dish Bob Chorba. The Bob Chorba is normally a soup but this restaurant cooks it as a stew which tastes much better. The staff were friendly and I liked the charming interior and the background folk music.More

Went here for lunch, a recommended place in the free walking tour booklet. Got a 5% discount. Lovely tasty piping hot main courses, delicious wine and shared one of the ice cream desserts recommended by our waitress.

I went to this restaurant with my mother. This was a restaurant with tasty food, great people, good service and a welcoming atmosphere. We will be back to try other tasty dishes. Love it !!

We visited after the Free Sofia Tour for a late lunch. Had traditional kebapche, meatballs and potatoes with their homemade cheesy flatbreads. Absolutely delicious and good sized portions. Service was excellent and all the food we saw presented looked good and was obviously being enjoyed...by the other customers. Much preferred Izbata to another more well known traditional restaurant. Will definitely return, next time we’re in Sofia.More

Starters were good but the chicken main course was inedible as it was so tough. I didn't complain as the vegetables were fine and the other main course was good but when she cleared the plates I mentioned the tough chicken and was told "that's...how we serve it and it's your fault because you didn't ask for my recommendation "!!!!! So rude and arrogant. Would definitely NOT recommend this place.More

We had dinner. Order several dishes for starter. Salads were all borings, eggplant was great. The veal and trout for main dishes were average. The place is nice ans service good but as a total not something unique.

Amazing service. Be aware there is more than one Izbata Tavern in Sofia. We sadly visited the wrong one. But the lady was totally understanding and so helpful in organising a taxi to our venue. She offered us a drink whilst we wait, talked to...us and even tried to flag down a taxi. After a short wait she walked us to the nearest square and hailed a taxi for us and got us to the correct venue. We offered her a tip to say thank you but she totally declined and said she didn’t do it for a cash reward. Amazing service!! And once we got to the correct Izbata Tavern the service continued. Cannot fault this at all. Wonderful !!!More
